Also: Who decides if it is a virus? Would that include trojan horses?
Computer virii are kind of like guns. I may personally hate both (especially guns), but how can you make one illegal without doing the same to other?
Amazing Fantasy #15 was comic book (which contains the first appearence of Spider-man and is worth a bunch of cash in even half decent condition). Therefore I doubt most people would count it as a pulp science fiction magazine, and instead call it like it is.
Just how does this mean the system is self correcting? A few people with tangible money and power are found to be greedy, only to have the root of the problem sort of swept under a rug?
Now you have a majority of the public trusting corperations less than ever. A government some trust even less helps them by lifting up the rug. Investers worry that there will be no trust in corps, but only care about the market making money, not how it does it.
A few select people get a slap on the wrist and a golden parachute and all the sudden the public is supposed to think everything is ok?
Go tell the tens of thousands of people that have had there lives ruined by greed that everything is alright, and the system rolls on unpurturbed. I am sure they will find that very assuring as they try to find another job with another big corperation, trying not to think about whether it will all happen again.
(Then there is the fact that a good portion of the entire economy is based on convincing consumers to live beyond their means through credit cards, loans, mortgages, leases, and so on. Then you have a gorvernment that wants people to buy more because all the sudden it is a patriotic duty to help a sick economy? It sure is a mad, mad world we live in.)
Ghost in the Shell 2 is Manga, but hasn't been officially translated to english yet. That is why it isn't for sale over here yet. If you are interested in more manga by Shirow Masamune, check your local comic book shop. Before Ghost in the Shell, he also did Dominion: Tank Police, Appleseed, Orion, Black Magic, and so on.
GITS2 will eventually make it over to here (probably through a translation by Dark Horse if that isn't already happening), and I believe in Japan a movie based on it is already being made, though I could be wrong.
I really like how they always use his full name, including the middle one. Usually that is reserved for assassins (Lee Harvey Oswald and John Wilkes Booth, etc).
...at least until somebody develops some sort of auto-gyro apparatus that is able to hover relatively short distance above the ground. That is the technology I am waiting for.
Just think of the possibilities available with that technology! News stations could theoretically use this amazing technology to fly employees above city streets to report on traffic buildup as it happens!
This Cell information using company better hope these vehicles remain science fiction for a long time to come, otherwise it could seriously cut into their bottom line.
When I saw the title "Festival of Inappropriate Technology" I thought it was going to be a showcase of stuff that was more along the lines of the ibrator, not old school/retro computer/hacker convention...
I remember going with traintracks only in almost every city I made in the original Sim City for PC. I was only able to get up to 150,000 people or so before filling up the map almost completely, but on the bright side there was generally very little polution. I seem to remember more police and fire stations being a heavy side effect though. It was a long time ago so maybe I am just making that last part up...
You are actually talking about GT3, or Gran Tourismo 3. Not to be confused with GTA3, or Grand Theft Auto 3. You cannot buy new tires in GTA3, but you can sure as hell flip your car.
Next on a very special Slashdot....

In this episode of Slashdot: Our crew gets trapped in time! Will they be able to save them selves and put everything back to the status quo in which nothing effects regular continuity by the end of the day? Stay tuned and find out, true believers!
The song is "Happiness in Slavery" which appeared on the NIN disc titled "broken".

So now people that want to listen to the new Celine Dion music on their Mac will be forced to download the mp3's?!?! Now there is a brilliant marketing strategy.
Does anybody really believe that the copying protection will stop the mp3's from being made?
If anything organizations like the RIAA would want to add "features" that control the way content is used and distributed, not remove and allow more of this piracy that leaves artists everywhere cold, hungry, and alone to fend for themselves in the cruel, cruel world that we live in.
KAZAA and the RIAA are similer in the fact that they both want to control the means by which we consumers interact with the things we aquire, legal or otherwise.
Essentially, they change the packaging (and sometimes even the content) of the entertainment which consumers are likely to seek out. They are at best a method of funding, advertising, and distribution for the content creators. At worst they are little more then middle men charging tolls to consumers and possibly hindering some or many of the content creators themselves.

Boy, that GPL is viral! Just like all the IIS virii and whatnot everybody tries to clone it.
Damn. I guess that means my PHD in Rubber Band Physics is useless now :(

Heh. Boy I wish I had mod points for this.
For that matter, so would dialing a call.

Well, Peter Parker is only like 5 foot 7 or so...
Maybe they just want us to think it is in New Mexico...

All it takes is one stupid pretzel and all the sudden he bends to threats like some highly malleable object.
