As a long time customer of both American Greetings and Penny-Arcade.com I am deeply saddened by the recent developments between your company and penny-arcade.com. After examining the situation as presented before me. I have come the the conclusion that American Greetings is wholly in the wrong. Because of this and because of while there are many supplementary goods for products bearing the American Greetings logo there are few for Penny Arcade.com and none for free speech, I have decided to stop consuming your products until such time that a noticeable change is made in the way that American Greetings responds to similar incidents.

While I understand that the number of individuals willing to take a stand on this issue will be small, I firmly believe that the number of people who would have had their opinion of American Greetings swain by an electronic comic-strip would be far less had American Greetings chosen a different course of action on this matter.

My point is that in the hands of good parents, things like this are good. In the hands of bad parents it will produce Akward 18 year old off to college who is drunk with freedom but has no idea how to use it responsibly and be forced to spend the first years of his adult life mourning his lost childhood and learning all of the thing he should have learned back then.

IMHO let the tenth graders learn the value of hard work the hard way. Two good years at a community college can erase 4 years of High School mistakes.

If they stop consuming everything shoveled in front of them and take a stand based on ethics and value (not marketing), we may just be able to get some changes made

I agree with what your saying, but I think that tat you have two holes in your theory.

1)The "Black Friday" newspapers come out on Wednesday giving you 24+ hours to plan your shopping day. I cant imagine anyone spending more than 1hr to look over the ads ad determine what they want most.
2)It's been my experience (both as a consumer and retail employee) that you generally will not have the option of visiting more than one store and still get all of the really hot items. (CIP - Bestbuy had their shelves cleared of the really good deals ( Hard drive and I think a video card?) less than two minutes after they opened last year.

So why does having the add in advance matter if the stores in question have pulled all traces of the item? (BTW - Refusing to sell an item to a given person is illegal. Not selling an item for which there is no visible display model, no visible boxed product and no visible signage is very legal.)
