With the rising costs of energy, we will start to see a decline in technology instead of a rise as we progress further with the energy crisis. When we finally figure out that alterntive energy is nothing but a pipe dream, people's lifestyles will change and ultimately revert back to the dark ages like previous societies have.
Our society is built upon technology, most of our technology requires energy to operate and all of it required R&D which most certainly took time and energy.
Once the keystone is removed, our society will inevitably fall. Suburban areas and people living in sparsely populated areas will be hit the hardest. The people that depend on driving and will no longer be able to do so will probably be forced to leave their homes and move closer to cities.

In the not too far future, cars will basically be designed like a cheap printer. When it breaks you will just throw it away and buy a new one.
The cars will be made out of mostly composites and plastics. This means that you will need to hire a specialist to do even the most minor repairs.
Every aspect of the car will be electronically controlled and monitored and you will need special equipment to even begin troubleshooting the numerous electrical problems that will crop up. There will be so many electronic controls that if there is an electrical problem; basically it's non-repairable.
Many car manufacturers are planning on sealing up the engine compartment and the engine itself. New super-lubricants are developed to last the 'life' of the car. (Previously on Slashdot)
The Tweel fits into the same category. The major gripes of it are that it incorporates the tire, rim, and hub all into 1 package. When something like this goes mainstream, forget about custom wheels. Right now there is a big market and all sorts of different tires available for the consumer. If there is a specialized product like the tweel, then it would basically be a monopoly.
The pneumatic tire has been around for 100 years and it has been constantly improved for the entire time. There is very little growing room for the tweel.
Current models are heavier than a standard wheel. This increases the rolling mass which makes it harder to accelerate and stop. Hasbro took a lot of cards out of Magic:TG just because they didn't want kids to certain cards because they were "A Family Company." These huge conglomerates don't care about the people, all they care about is profit. A new expansion for M:TG comes out every few months, the newer sets are practically worthless because they aren't out long enough for people to really collect them and use the cards long enough before the next set comes out. To them, you are nothing but a consumer.
The same thing goes with AD&D, there hasn't been anything groundbreaking in the past decade as far as roleplaying goes. The truth is that corporations don't want free thinking individuals. Things like zero tolerance are stomping on civil liberties. Right now it's very easy to be treated like a criminal, actually it is getting much harder not to be. In the last few years schools have been fortifying their walls like a jail. If you skip a class, you can get sent away to a juvenile detention center. You can be expelled for having a butter knife or a pair of scissors in your car parked outside the school. You can also be expelled for having a bottle of asprin.
I can barely recognize my old highschool now, there are high fences surrounding the entire complex. Instead of allowing people to go outside to eat lunch, they are forced to eat in the cafeteria. How are these young people ever going to learn how to be responsible adults if they are locked in a cage 7 hours a day and are forced to go to classes that they shouldn't have to be in?
This all leads to people that are adult age but still having the minds of children. This means there will be a growing dependance on the government.
I guess it's just a coincidence that it is the government that controls how schools are funded and what curriculums they have and that if a school chooses not to follow a rule it has it's only source of funding taken away.

Hasbro took a lot of cards out of Magic:TG just because they didn't want kids to certain cards because they were "A Family Company." These huge conglomerates don't care about the people, all they care about is profit. A new expansion for M:TG comes out every few months, the newer sets are practically worthless because they aren't out long enough for people to really collect them and use the cards long enough before the next set comes out. To them, you are nothing but a consumer.
The same thing goes with AD&D, there hasn't been anything groundbreaking in the past decade as far as roleplaying goes. The truth is that corporations don't want free thinking individuals. They want kids to act like droids that play videogames all day long. Roleplaying helps develop certain key parts of the brain. It also promotes people to be more social.
Video games do nothing but stunt the growth of the brain and can over time casue permanant brain damage as a result. All video games seem to promote is antisocialism. In extreme cases, they lose their social abilities and become a recluse. It has caused countless amounts of kids to drop out or flunk out of school. In a few cases suicides has been a direct result of playing video games. Speaking of which, WoW is now out. I wonder how many kids will lose out on their social skills and flunk out of school over this one.
P2P gives people too much of a choice when choosing their music.

Pay per download can still control what a user can or cannot listen to by only making certain records and songs available. It's not just losing money that record companies are afraid of, it's losing control over the distribution of music.
Sure the radio is free (for now) but the listeners do not control what is played over the air.

Small laws like this one gradually but surely remove civil liberties one by one. At the government level, politicians would just assume that we were nothing but children that does not know what is best for us.
In general, the majority of Americans know what is best for them and generally making responsible decisions about their life.
People that consistantly cause problems are the minority compared to the rest of law abiding citizens.
Instead of tring to help people that have issues, they are punished by being sent to jail to live in a locked box like an animal or even worse being sent to a mental institution where they are put on so many drugs that it permanantly destroys their mind and body.
The thing to blame here is the education system. Right now all the special programs for troubled students are being shut down. Instead of putting those people in special programs and classes to try to reach them, more and more of them are being put in mainstream classes. Many people in this situation do not do well and end up dragging the entire class down. In this situation, these challenged people will get frustrated and act out. This may lead to other people's grades dropping because of the constant distraction.
Things like zero tolerance are stomping on civil liberties. Right now it's very easy to be treated like a criminal, actually it is getting much harder not to be. In the last few years schools have been fortifying their walls like a jail. If you skip a class, you can get sent away to a juvenile detention center. You can be expelled for having a butter knife or a pair of scissors in your car parked outside the school. You can also be expelled for having a bottle of asprin.
I can barely recognize my old highschool now, there are high fences surrounding the entire complex. Instead of allowing people to go outside to eat lunch, they are forced to eat in the cafeteria. How are these young people ever going to learn how to be responsible adults if they are locked in a cage 7 hours a day and are forced to go to classes that they shouldn't have to be in?
This all leads to people that are adult age but still having the minds of children. This means there will be a growing dependance on the government.
I guess it's just a coincidence that it is the government that controls how schools are funded and what curriculums they have and that if a school chooses not to follow a rule it has it's only source of funding taken away.
Coming back to the interlock, the masses are treated like children incapible of making their own decisions. If we allow the government, which is supposed to run under our consent to overstep it's bountries, then it will turn into a tyranny. This will no longer be a Republic, it will be a Fascist Dictatorship.
Now that the region system is finally failing, it's only a matter of time before all tvs can handle both PAL and NTSC signals.

The Fed is a privately owned corporation in the business of selling money to our govt. The deficit is to the Fed, not to the people. Because our current currency is based on creating a debt to the Fed, no amount of taxes will ever be able to pay it off.

By creating a fluxuating market, you will be able to basically keep the masses in check. They will be checking their wallets instead of checking their government. Almost all of the headlines on newspapers and in tv land are just simply drama, filler, entertainment, whatever. The real politics always go unnoticed by the mass media. (which are owned and controlled by banks who also effectively run our govt)
The easiest way to make a powergrab is to simply create a diversionary tactic. For instance a mugger may create a distraction by bumping into you. This method, however is a high risk maneuver. The person may catch you, they know what you look like, if they had a gun they might shoot you. Another way could be to have a team working together. It would be very hard to prove that those people were all working together. Yet another way would remove the person another level up from working in a team. That would be to hire someone or a group of someones to do the dirty deed. Multiply this by a factor of 100 and you will be in the dark to just how much govt can be and in fact is corrupted. If you do not know who your enemy is, then you will not be able to seek retribution. If you do not know that a crime has even taken place or you were wronged, then you are truly lost.
The lie is so big that so few can appreciate the grandeur of it. The real facts are truly mindblowing. I say real facts because there is a difference between a fact and a real fact. A fact simply is what the general consensus believes to be true. A real fact does not rely on humans (We all make mistakes) but by the natural laws of reality.

It's hard to tell if this is anything more than a toy at this point. Marginal quality control is now possible. The time from pre-production to release might be a few days difference.
The actors might be able to play their roles slightly better if they know what the final result will be. In movies like EpisodeII they were acting totally blind in front of a screen for most of the movie. Very little of it was actually built.

MicroSoft uses every dirty trick in the book to escalate their sales. This new exploit now gives NT4 shops an urgent need to upgrade.
Because of the closed source, there is no way to patch a MicroSoft product without MicroSoft. If someone figures out a way to fix it; MS will undoubtably sue the shirt off their backs.
This seems to be an underlying plan for the MS scheme to make money. Two - three years from now they will be pulling the same thing with windows 2000 just to keep a purpetual upgrade going on even though the older systems work perfectly fine.
There are still systems that are 20+ years old that still work and do their purpose, yet the lifespan for anything running MS is only 3-5 years.
Imagine if the stock market was running windows NT!
I'm sure companies know about other wavelengths. The reason why they don't drop in an even smaller wavelength is that they will miss out on all the sales of this blue laser technology and secure their places so they can sell and market different optical technologies for hundreds of years down the line. The only time you will see the next technology coming out is when they have milked this one for all it's worth, Don't be fooled, there are plenty of technologies that work but are not yet shown to the public. There are false claims that there isn't a way to expand certain technologies, yet they come out at just the right time.

Bah their loss, Microsoft has pissed off enough people to not buy from them already. They still think they can run the entire show but the consumers are beginning to know better and not put up with the same old bull that has been plaging us for decades.
In the 70's and 80's we speculated that cars would use a clean energy source by the year 2000. But nobody realized that SUVs would become popular and get even worse gas milage.
The same thing will probably happen with Microsoft. A huge business like that does not change overnight. It is doubtful that we see any changes until it is too late. Proprietary businesses no matter how good will eventually lose out to 3rd parties. There is a window in businesses like IBM and Microsoft. When that time is up, they will get hit hard.
IBM at one time was completely proprietary. Piece by piece 3rd party manufacturers replaced IBM hardware. Eventually IBM clones were around and could compete with IBM directly. Over a span of less than 10 years IBM lost most if it's desktop market share. Now IBM doesn't even bother with consumer hardware. The last couple of things to go were videocards and hard drives. Companies like NVIDIA and ATI were innovators and blew by IBM in the videocard market. Then the IBM hard drives began to get chinsey and they discontinued that as well.
I am speculating that the same thing with Microsoft is going to occur. Right now there are competing office suites, desktop os', web browsers etc. These products will eventually replace the need for Microsoft products one by one as more people use them. In a matter of years more people will be using open/free software and look back to the days of Microsoft and either laugh or feel dread and angst. The days of a software proprietary model are limited and if Microsoft and other companies don't change to accept opensource, then they will ultimately lose their market shares.
