Err... the OpenGL work is controled by the ARB, but the trademark is owned by SGI. OpenGL will never go away, but the name might if they decide to sell it.
I found the lack of MMOs very suprising. Personally I would have added EQ and UO (as the original MMO archtypes) instead of the THREE versions of Metroid (prime DEFINATELY does not deserve a slot).
There is already a Mobile 3D Graphics (M3G) for J2ME. It is also know as JSR184. Many next gen games are using this scene-graph API. Some implementations are based on OpenGL ES.
There is also JSR239, which is a direct OpenGL ES binding to JAVA.
IAAFE (I Am A Freescale Employee), and I can tell you:
1. Freescale (formerly SPS) is a subsidiary of Motorola and plans to spin-off.
2. Metrowerks is a subsidiary of Freescale (which means it was formerly a subsidiary of MotoSPS) and will remain so (AFAIK) after the spin-off.
Thus, currently, Metrowerks is a subsidiary of a subsidiary.
I swear I'm going to scream at the next review that labels the ATI chip on the Zodiac as a 3D accelerator. It is a 2D/media chip. All the 3D games are using software renderers. You would think these major outlets would do a little fact checking?
Napster is the only service that will redownload songs you've purchased, even if you're using a different computer.
Does anyone know if iTunes will ever get this feature?
Seems like shoddy electronics may be just a ploy for to sell you the extended warrenty. It's almost automatic with me if I buy anything over $200 nowadays. I personally have had to use the warrenty on about half the equipment I've bought.
I agree, graphics don't have to be great, but they have to give the correct impression and mood. Music is the same as well, but more so. I really hate rpg's that use really sucky music for atmosphere.
I think most 8-16'ers would be put off by Debian's lengthy install process. Try Mandrake or RedHat to start. Mention Debian kicks ass and that they should try installing it later.
Carmack gets reference cards, drivers, etc. before other developers. Not to mention he has praised nVidia in the past. So, they're almost certain to work well together.
First THG says "...in battery mode, the CPU runs at half-speed only."
Then they say "What did leave a good impression were the two hours and 47 minutes of battery-running time and the complete set of equipment."
Can you use the same point as both a good and bad point?
I heard a while back that the explanation was that the Romulans supposedly sold the technology to the Klingons in exchange for advanced Warp Technology.
Ever hear of tim berners-lee?
Ever heard of Al Gore?
This tech is soooooo Siggraph 2006...

I JUST bought an iPod Photo and it came with both cables.

Well, it has mentioned 1000 times that iTunes uses AAC and Napster uses WMA. That about the best they can do for DRM.
They don't apply DRM to stuff you rip, just stuff you download.

This idea has been around for years. I first saw in the "Garage VR Handbook", which was published in the early 90's.

Now I get to hear those "In Soviet Russia" jokes over my web radio.
They compared it against a G4 4200 and a R9500. Shouldn't they have looked at a R7500 or mobile G 420/440 to be in the same price ballpark (~$100)?

Whole boat lifevests?
Perhaps Mr. Carmack should stick to shooting monsters in outer space instead of going there.

I want my infinite improbability drive! Come on Zaphod, hook us up!
What is the point of Futurama on CN except to hard core fans? There weren't that many episodes and there won't be any new ones.
