I could spend a couple hours downloading stuff, running shell scripts and make-configs, and then trying to diagnost the problem when it won't run, or I could just go buy Battlefield 1942 and be playing it within 10 minutes on Windows.

It seems like people just know how to work them to get favorable press on anything, and Tycho and Gabe are super willing to just roll over for a free corn dog.
I didn't know CS and UT2K needed to address more than 4GB of memory. I didn't know they needed 64 bits of precision in FP arithmetic. Wow- the performance gains should be unreal what with how 32 bits cripples these two games!
I remember reading once that even if the moon were made of solid gold, any mining effort would still lose quite a bit of money due to tremendous launch/return costs that are between $7000 and $20000 per pound. Even if you brought a metric ton of gold back you'd be losing money.
The disparity grows even more when you start talking about mining asteroids.
Right now the only viable economic model in space is in satellites.

Outsourcing, removing obstacles to immigration, and generally allowing people to hire who they want where they want has been shown to be such a universally good thing for all economies involved. I'm getting tired of people whining to the government for new laws because they are undereducated/unmotivated. This is just too convenient of a copout.
