You could do that in Doom. It's called vertical autoaim =P
Oh, and check out JDoom for OpenGL-powered Doom. It's not quite the same as Tenebrae but nice anyhow.
Some say these screenshots don't look impressive. Well - in a way they don't, but the actual game does. And the reason why the screenshots don't make the game justice is that the animation, bumpmaps, lighting etc must be seen in motion to have any effect. DOOM III's *realtime* lighting is what makes it a game/engine of the next generation. Wait for official videos...
No, voxels. Except they'd have to be so small & many that there'd always be at least one voxel per pixel on the screen. And that's also why you'd need high CPU and RAM power.
I don't think polygon graphics in games have more than 10-15 years left. At that time, we'll move on to advanced voxel-based technology. Voxels have a couple of important advantages, such as that things don't get angular edges at all, and also and most importantly, that game physics can get a lot more authentic. Still, voxels require lots of CPU and RAM power, so they won't come yet.
Depends. While I am no audiophile, I can't hear the difference between 320kbps MP3:s and the sound straight from the CD. If there is a difference, it probably depends on differences in the volume settings...
The issue is of course that 95% of all MP3:s on P2P networks are horrible quality 128kbps MP3:s... I know some networks are better in this department, Kazaa doesn't even let you search for 320kbps MP3:s! If anything, that could actually be a reason for the RIAA to keep off it... people can't get the CD quality music anyway.
Anyone know how a 128kbps MP3 compares to an analog tape recording?
On a partially unrelated note, I think you who are audiophiles should check out FLAC which provides lossless sound compression at something like a 50% file compression rate. Now that's an alternative if you like to conveniently store music on your hard drive but don't want to lose quality in some CD->MP3 or CD->OGG conversion...
If you're going to trade files, trade directly with your friends. It's faster and more reliable...
And besides, copying files for private purposes is not illegal AFAIK, at least not where I live, so giving a copy of the latest Britney Spears (yeah right) album to a dude of yours probably isn't illegal no matter the case.

E3 Doom III Preview

I find it hilarious that the movie runs at 5 fps even though it's 100MB. If they had used mpeg or something similar, I bet they could've had it at 20 fps for the sams size. I call that movie a slideshow, not a movie.
I'm sorry to say that the previews of Metroid Prime so far have made me quite disappointed.
The game looks just like any average first person shooter. IMO it doesn't even get up to par with recent shooters - the models and animation are lame and on average the graphics seem just dull.
Also, none of the feeling and atmosphere from the old Metroids (essentialy Super Metroid) seem to be preserved. Yeah, this is hard to judge from visuals only, but 1) in my taste, these graphics just don't set the mood and 2) in my taste, the music sucks badly.
Beat me for being backwards, but I think there's a general problem with converting a concept such as Metroid from 2D to 3D. I know Nintendo already did a wonderful job with this with their Mario and Zelda series, but it seems to me that Retro Studios, while probably making a decent game in the end, somehow hasn't managed to get the special thing out of it. It takes more effort than just copying the character and recycling a trademark. Maybe Nintendo would've made a better job if they made the game themselves? I don't know.
Well, the Metroid atmosphere and gameplay is at least for me something very special and I have my doubts that Metroid Prime will make it.
Star Wars is indeed as much fantasy as the Lord of the Rings.
However, science fiction is quite commonly associated with the space setting. In fact, it works the other way around too - movies with space settings are usually considered to be science fiction no matter what they're about.
Troll? What the hell? What are the moderators smoking today?
It's bad already with overloads in the phone lines due to lightning. Optical cables are better for that reason (unless I am mistaken)...

I'm sure a single one of those new monsters will be as scary as 50 sprite imps :)
only release date they're specifying at E3 is "2003", and most likely it won't be January either
It'll probably be released in December 2003, celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the original game...
Well that is what games are for - feeding our imagination with stuff we don't want to see in real life (hopefully).

They should switch to democracy instead!
Not trying to be an asshole or something, but recent films are better - because they have better eye candy. That's the truth :)

That's why Star Wars is science fiction.
I'd say the Entertainment factor list is the one that makes the most sense. At least to me...
If they manage this, fighting spam may get easier :)
A while back, the USA had a 'war' against communism. Today there apparently is one against software communism.

It might not be open source but it's still a fast and reliable browser and better than Mozilla in my taste.
For optimal effect you must use the right plancks or else your table may not work correctly with present theories regarding quantum mechanics.
This doesn't change any facts. A new version number? Great, but this new kernal still sucks compared to a real OS e.g. Windows XP.
