Yes, several of AAA games from 5 years ago. No fallout, no GTA. And let's be real honest here, Linux display drivers suck donkey dicks. I don't want to play half-life 2 on two R9 290's in crossfire and only get a shaky 45fps. Not to mention that Xwindows isn't multi-threaded, so if you have a dynamic webpage in the background with a bad script you drop frames. SteamOS, Debain, and Ubuntu can all lick balls right now. It is not a well functioning gaming platform. Linux has a lot of good uses. Gaming isn't one of them.
I pretty much think my wife has this behavior. She is obsessive compulsive about Facebook. I think it goes with people who have to be in everyone's business and know what's going on. I guess i'm the opposite, I could care less about what's going on and don't care to journal everything I do in my own life. I also sleep well and my wife can't seem to get a good nights sleep so there's that too. Facebook to me is just like alcohol to a alcoholic. Its just a means to a satisfaction for people. Some people can handle alcohol just fine as with most people and social sites. But some simply cannot.
Says the guy posting to slashdot at 5:55am on a sunday.:)
We do third party support for out of warranty shit, The fun one over here (for us anyways) is MPE, Factories still run on this stuff, everyone who supports it is dying, it's hard to train new people to deal with the old way of doing things. But there is always a need somewhere. I don't see why Microsoft doesn't spend their resources for SAS for updates on antiquated software. They could probably hold their company indefinitely just running windows XP,7 or 8. The corporate licensing could compensate for security updates on the consumer side. In the early days upgrading all the time made sense. But how many different ways do you need to edit a document, or use Excel. These things are at a point. Windows is a stable operating system. Why should companies keep shelling out for new hardware, when for most people (not designers, or other power users) a core 2 duo is more than enough power.
As to virutalizing, Not likely, and more importantly, not free. Windows 3.1 is 16 bit. If you didn't need access to any hardware (old network cards or specialty cards of any kind) there would be a shot. But this is pre HAL, it relies on BIOS for control of it's hardware. Also, even if you could virtualize, you would need to know the coders to fix all the bugs from the switch over. How do you do that in a live system that was pre-virtualization without making downtime. Downtime that isn't really available for an airport. Lastly, they have a system that "works" they would have to pay the capital investment to switch. (I know they should but hey they are French)
Backula I think would do it, but you have to pay for it. If you are looking for free, you will have to learn how to script your own agents. For a small business (25-50 PC+) Windows Server Essentials is Boss! It boots a tftp server for recovery and nicely manages all the machines it backs-up. Conversely, You should centralize user data, so if their PC goes down, they don't lose any work. Then just keep a windows PE custom install of the PC's when they are build fresh and you can just do an image restore on failure.
Look, you are going to attract the people who will bring back doors with them. They try out all sorts of stuff that then gets defunded, or the guy leaves and doesn't clean up. The thing is, when they find a new problem, they have they guys there to figure it out too. I would bet the actual systems (financial and acemdemic) are tighter than fort nox. But, it is an engineers playground, So everything is covered in beer and Mtn Dew.
Of course they did. They haven't made a stable product yet. Anyone who disagrees must not use their computer much. Anyone who moves lots of data around (video editors, Photoshopers, music makers, etc) Knows the OCZ name is absolute shite. I have been building PC's since the 7th grade 80386 FTW. I build custom machines for artists (Video production, DSLR Photography, Sound Studios) and work for a small company that is a 3rd party maintenance company for storage arrays. Toshiba isn't known for it's reliability either, I replace every toshiba drive in the office PC with a Hitachi or Seagate drive off our parts shelf. I bought OCZ Vertex, and OCZ Vector for different clients. They were also used here, and in my home PC. They all failed, and some when they came back "fixed" they still would only work for a week before failing again. This is keeping up with firmware updates. These SSDs are the WORST hands down. I have used brand X drives with more reliability. Now everything is Samsung PRO if the drive is getting used and not just holding mostly static data.
Exactly. Not to mention they were recently selling max level characters for something or other. So it's ok if Blizztard sells you cheats, but not so if a Chinese entrepreneur does the same thing...? Right. At least EVE Online is honest in its own corruption.
100K is a good start - only 7 million to go. Then other mmorpgs might come out from under the shadow of the worst mmo to ever excrete itself onto a finite market.
To think, this drek keeps on going & going, whereas innovative, quality mmos like CoX go under. At least there's the likes of GW2 - B2P - buy once, play forever.
IF GW2 had half the story writing team of WoW, I might have made it more than 2 hours before going, Gee, this grind is way too boring. I really don't care what is going on right now.
So you are suggesting that we all live simple post-modern Amish lives while company owners drive around Yachts and jet liners. If we lived that way, our county would collapse. The great recession was that in a nutshell, and it sucked.
“No business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country.” (1933, Statement on National Industrial Recovery Act) --FDR So your pie-in-the-sky gas attendant metaphor is false. That job in today's dollars would be making $21.50/hour. But in reality it pays $8 + tips
First of all, you must have been around in the 1960's when you could get a full-time factory job and that would pay for college. That doesn't exist on either side. There are no good paying factory jobs, and even if there were, You still can't afford college.
You are right, we pay more for our education system than anyone else, but that is a misleading statistic. We are the largest 1st world country, so we will spend more money on our schooling just due to salary. There are inefficiencies, but the real reason we are behind everyone else is time. We are the only nation that takes summers off. So when we graduate from High school we have 2 years less schooling than a student abroad.
You are right, money doesn't solve problems, it just repairs buildings, buys desks, pays for art and sport programs, buys books, pays for teachers and bussing, but fuck all that, we need to spend that money elsewhere. The kids can sit around the fire while their pastor tells them what's best. These damn entitled kids.
I would also like you to cite some resources on where the "poorest students are often times the best" From my experience, working poor families have either single parent, or dual employed parent situations. Usually working shitty shifts that don't allow them the time to work with their kids. If you are rich you can afford a tutor and a doctor, if you are poor, you just get labeled as dumb.
OK, this is nothing new, as an EX employee of an American telephone/telegraph company. The first person you talk to is a "customer service and SALES" every time you call in, and their system is "Running Slow" they are looking at your account to "Bundle" a solution to your problem. Bundle = bamboozle. The reps make over half their income from commission, this is "Customer service" not outbound sales. It is the way business is done anymore.
The whole concept of "News Feed" is that they aggregate all the posts of your friends to best suit you. People who didn't want to see negative messages all the time could freely choose not to follow their Debbie Downers (I sure did). Unless Facebook said, "We know this is going to make you feel bad" and then presented it to you anyways, they are in the clear. This is a free service, you can choose to get your stories in timeline format instead of "news feed" format. How would they know what you want to see, it is as arbitrary as any other choosing method. They could choose to only show you things they think would piss you off in your "news feed" it is their prerogative.
WGDH is another online radio station playing a multitude of different formats of coarse it is currently dead due to the fact the office flooded pretty good, and fried our T1, should be back up in a couple of days.
check it out it was 1984 when hp came out with their laserjet. And also, to a previous post, Cannon, makes parts of the laserjets, but not the technology behind them, (read: processors, and other parts)
They were the first company to make laser printers with a ozone filter small enough that you could fit your laser printer on the desk, also the first to come out with ink technology , infact I still have my thinkjet, and it still works.
you are talking about a computer company that really doen't exist right now, in 1999-2000 (i assume that was when you got it, due to that was te "average good" system out) Compaq was it's own entity, which is not the case now, they merged with HP making HPQ. Also, you can't complain that you bought a prefab machine, with an 810 board, and it allocated 8megs for the intergraded graphics card, any motherboard with integraded graphics will have some of the main memory allocated.
Why do you not like PayPal? I've not seen any disparaging comments on them before. Can you elaborate a bit more on this?
It all depends on what you are trying to do, first of all, a lot of weapons enthusists are upset that they cannot use their services in auctions of that sort. Secondly, they don't always pull from the right account, or at least in my case, they pulled from my bank account when they should have used a credit card, I personally had two credit cards they could use, (the one I wanted to use and the "backup") but they still opted to use my bank account, which put me in the hole. I first I thought it was user error but I have heard of that happening alot. Just my two cents...

That sounds like indentured servitude, still illegal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I...

Am I the only one who doesn't want Google with a hard wired camera in my living room, complete with health and face recognition.
I would bet, that is how they did Wolfenstein 3D
Scorched Earth was epic in high school. That Links 386 and Street Rod http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S...
I like that one myself. Whenver I fire up dos box, I can help but spend 10 minutes playing alley cat.

That doesn't make sense
wouldn't it be :
How much s*it can a dips*it dip, if a dips*it chould dip s*it?
or:
How much dip could a dips*it s*it, if a dips*it chould s*it dip?
Whats next? Duplicate rant about dupe comments?
The most painful punishment for MS is to disregard all their copyrights, patents and IP.
i have gotten it, but probably not now
