Quantum entanglement would be a possible way to have relativity hold true, yet allow superluminal information transport. Essentially, the states of two similar particles become, for a lack of a more definate word: "entangled" and changes made to one of the particles occurs instantaneously with the second.

  5. Re:Why Doom Sucks...finaly said on Doom Archive Reopened · · Score: 1

I've been thinking this same concept since right since DOOM also. I was obsessed with Castle Wolfenstein when it came out. It seemed very revolutionary, (graphics, gameplay, etc) and I have still the upmost respect for it. DOOM was just an improvement of all the Wolf clones and then every other game was just a DOOM clone. Then quake...and the story goes on.

I think that the only thing keeping this first-person-kill-everything-and-escape industry now a days is multiplayer. Sure the AI's are good, but you can play some of these games in a day and find everything. Multiplayer is the only unpredictable aspect of the games becasue you are against other human players. But even taht sucks becasue all the players grew up with Doom, Quake, Wolf so they all have the same skills and techniques.

I do however like the new Wolf (Return to Castle WOlfenstien) because it came out in the wake of Half Life and Deus Ex, but was more oriented to a skill game. You have to snipe once and awhile, mad frenzy once and awhile, listen to all the conversations. But right now I dont think this type of game has anywhere to go.

    and

The sudden raise in temperature would melt about a trillion tons of water, which is enough water to form a lake, with a depth of one meter, that could cover an area larger than the state of Connecticut

I'm glad to know that the proposed terraforming of Mars is using the common units of "Connecticuts" and "Lake Michigans".

Too many typical Bond puns. I.E. Villian: [holding sword] "I'll get to the point"

Gadgets you know Bond should allready have. Sure back in the day it was cool to see what new toy Bond was going to get, but we allready have seen it all. There were few suprises in that department.

The only cool gadget: The Invisible Car. Nice concept, cameras on each side project incoming image on the opposite pannel.

The Plot: Evil guy makes big gadget to take earth hostage...Bond shoots some guys & has lots of sex...Bond allmost dies...Bond saves world

    Still some sweet explosions/gunfights.

Bond movies have allways been great, but there's just no more anticipation of whats going to happen or what Bond is going to do. Its just too predictable.

The concept was and is very confusing to try and work out in the mind.

I have little money, so I was forced into building my computers from scratch, which gives me more respect for my tower. I also made sure I had a computer just for coding and programming (an old 133 that can only handle that). Concequently, case moding just doesnt seem that important to me.

Just to partially disagree also, I know alot of geeks my age that are concerned with similar issues rather than what their case looks like in the dark. But there are alot of posers out there and /. does seem to cater to them too often. The page with the mod story has an entire HOW TO on making a CAT5 cable as new news. Making a CAT5 cable is so important that it should be common knowledge, but you know that hundreds of people who pass through the site are going to be amazed that they can make their own. *sigh* Where have the old times gone...

Case modding is not usually found on a family computer used for typing and surfing the web, there's just no need...nor the advanced computer love that mod geeks have for their precious....
