I just recompiled Mplayer 1.0RC7 and it works like magic, I don't even have to keep installing dozens of codecs, because it supports most of them just out of the box. Togheter with KMplayer, I don't need IE of Media Player plugin.
Oh yeah, penguins like watching movies and TV on computers.
There is a saying here in brazil that states: "Felt in the net, it's fish". It means that once something happens, sorry, but people will not forgive or ignore it. It just fits very well in this case, if you publish web pages on the net, you should not expect that nobody will copy them, you know, there is no DRM in html! Plus, I bet those pages didn't had in each of them, or even anywhere, a copyright notice.
I've found this interesting since some sites use images as cursors for IE, and that would be a welcome improvement to Firefox also:
URI values on CSS cursor properties On Windows, OS/2 and Linux (Gtk+ 2.x) one can now use an arbitrary image as the mouse cursor while a given DOM node is being hovered. Any image format supported by Gecko can be used for the image (SVG, animated GIF, and ANI cursors are not supported).
Does anybody know if there is another bittorrent client that alows you to download only some files of the torrent, instead of all of them, like Azureus does? I wish the official client had implemented it.
This feature is really nice for people with small HDs, or that simply want to download and burn things in order, but Azureus is a java program you know, very bloat software that isn't nice to let running in background.
I don't have money to pay for a DVD recorder drive, or even a reader, I just have this nice CD-RW 52X from LG and I'm happy with it.
So how can I install suse 9.3 by downloading cd isos to burn? (no ftp install, thanks). I supose I'll have to wait it to appear on torrent sites or emule?
If it should follow the pronounce of "Conectiva" it should be Man-dree-vah, cause it's cô-nêc-tee-vah (ok, it's hard to write this to sound in english) in portuguese.
This thing probally won't come out of the paper as the last try.
Instead of doing all of this yad-yada (bla-bla-bla), government should work to lower taxes and raise salaries, so people could acctually buy a computer by themselves!
I worked hard and have a nice duron 1.6, it's not a big thing and it came throught Paraguay (this mean, no taxes) as most people here do, because they can't afford a regular pc sold in shops that is 3 times more expensive.
I belive acctually that a gecko foundation would be better.
I love the rendering engine of mozilla, but the xul is just... well I don't like it. That's why Firefox is a sucess, they minimized the interface/xul.
It's real fun all this, because you see, Unidet States says that they have "nukulear" weapons to avoid other nations attacking them (well, that's today because when they first started creating this kind of weapon they just wanted to nuke'em all), and now North Korea is doing the same.
You know the old saying: Do as I say, don't do as I do.
No brazilian company between the Latin America top 5 is really awesome. I don't mean Cemex dosen't have merits, it's just that most brazilian companies work on almost every latin american contries, see Petrobras as a example, they even work on africa and middle east.
Contries that use Gnu/Linux or free software, dosen't use so much money on software, so there are more money for thing like vaccines for example.
The greatest problem on developing contries isn't the money, but what they do with the money.
Brazil have a law that mandates a percentage of all government money must go do health, other areas that dsosen't have this kind of legal protection year over year lose money for paying debts.
I fully agree with that. Imagine someone on Africa discovers the cure of AIDS/HIV. Should we be sad because we wheren't the ones who did it or make a party because millions of lifes would be saved and earth would be a better place to live? It just make us wonder again why we waste so much money on weapons instead of just advancing science for our own sake.
Simply: you have to download the ISO just once, so when you have to install a package just place the cd on the drive. You can even get a friend with a good connection to download and burn the cd for you. By installing throught FTP every time you need to install a package you need to connect and download it.
Please Sun, die alone without getting a company that is playing nice on linux field along! I hope IBM reads slashdot and make a better offer for novell blocking this stupid sun idea.
It kills jobs on US on Microsoft and other companies, but create jobs in local countries that support OSS for new companies.
Take for example Brazil, even the translation of Windows to brazilian portuguese is made on redmond, why should our government care if those jobs are closed? Then microsoft talks about the local reseller of windows, well, replace windows for another SO and the local retailers will be... THERE, just selling something different.
There is a LOT of jobs emerging around here that won't exist if everthing was Microsoft.

The second search worked, but google already know me and place my page called upperland on first, and plus have options to search only brazilian or portuguese pages.
The problem was when I tryied searching for "sport club internacional" that gave me a: Sorry, no results were found containing "sport club internacional". It's the name of my soccer team in brazil. Google found lots of pages, even american/international sites citing it. Very bad result here for msn experimental search.
There is a growing effort to make KDE/Gnome programs to look similar, for example using open/save dialogs from the enviroement or to use the same visual theme.
Programs running under wine however simply look just like windows programs making them a bit "alien" on unix desktops. Do you think it would be a good idea that programs running under wine look and feel more like native programs?
What I really think C/C++ need are just better and more modern libraries/includes.
There are tons of things that could be included, if they include all the PHP funcions it would be perfect for example. PHP is a gfreat example of how a language is less important than the functions it have.
Why not include mysql/postgres/etc functions on default includes functions? This would be a major boost for C language IMHO.
There is a explanation for conectiva and linux scuess in Brazil: the fight agains piracy.
We had a tax os 90% until the 80's, now the tax is just a big above 50%, mostly of domestic users, in the companies the rate is much more like 20 or 30%.
This let to some companies start evaluating linux because they simply can't afford windows licences.
Conective did a big help in this transformation, they even had a nice ad "seja legal, use software livre" - "be legal (legal means nice in portuguese too), use free software", and give support for companies changing to linux. Now, the fear of using linux is motly gone in Brazil, and people simply try it and see if it works for them.
Conective is a very smart and nice company, even that I don't like their distro.
In portuguese vista means view, so we have "vista da janela" or "windows view". Funny indeed.

Well, nice thing, exept that I can't use because I'm a linux user.
How did you upgraded, using cds isos, ftp, dvd?

if (one != two)

That's true. I've used the JAVA version for IRS and it worked great, just had some minor glitches when printing the receipt, but very good indeed.
I fully agree with that.

ANSI C? I know borland C++ and Microsoft Visual C++ probally have those things, but does ANSI C?
