This is right on the matter. Most of what Brasil spends on army is salary, other part is for army doing usefull tasks as helping merchant navy, building roads, giving remedies for indigeans in amazon area, etc. Very little is spent in ammno or veicles, planes, etc.
Last year 50% of recruts didn't completed the one-year service because there wan't money to pay their salaries. Pr. Lula stopped a bought of some airplanes to use the money in social projetcs... There is no way you can compare the Israely or US army with the Brazilian one.
I'ts the only game I can say that gave me creeps when playing. Very good.
But I can't forget Zelda (Snes), the begin with the rain sound... it have a kind of nostalgic feeling...
Hard to Explain.
Should'nt laws be made by legislators, and in the Iraq's case a constitutional assembly?
Funny how US won't impose the form of Iraq's new regim, but already said no to ismalic constitution and now is writing their laws alone and already... very weird thing...
.. is that this comes from the samer people who sold Iraq chemical weapons and now are running to try to get thyem back.
Hilarious to me! Really!
Yeah, I know, it's not that hilarious because it's stupid and makes us think how stupid is army.
Gladly I'm a brazilian!
It's just me or less bloated software based on mozilla are making more sucess than the original?
I use phoenix and it's much better thank mozilla IMHO, I don't see why to use something much more slow with not much more functions.
I think giFT is great, but I belive while it's in this hard-devel-stage it's not for everbody, you know while it's not stabilized it won't have windows clientes so it won't spread much besides unix people that love to cvs/compile.
You know, the paper US press is having in this war is really sad. It looks like US got back at Mcarthey (correct me if name is typed wrong) times, where everbody that didn't said amen was communist, just now they are called anti-american.
You know, americans that live here in Brasil are mostly agains the war, because we don't cut the news about anti-war protests or anti-war-leaders speachs. The same, sure and more, goes for Iraq's television.
How do you guys fell that press changes peoples minds to support or not a war?
>disrupt Iraqi infrastructure
you know, no army surrenders or have much problems because of this kind of thing. Mostly this only is bad for civilians.
Remember what happened on England or Leningrad in 2nd war, they resisted bravely anyway.
So, O mostly don't see any sense in doing this. Well, I don't see any sense in the war anyway, maybe besides lowering oil prices.
Yes, you're right (and I admit it even that I don't like XUL because I think it's too bloated, good idea, bad implementation IMHO).
XUL is already a wrapper over gtk that works pretty well.
Kudos to Mozilla team.
Another reason told by KDE developers, is that the KDE svg support wasn't complete (no scripts and some options) so they didn't wanted to release something incomplete, in what I agree 100%.
First, Gnome have SVG in real time, you can choose a.svg as icon file. KDE should had this for 3.1, but as their lib wasn't very good, they now target it for 3.2.
Second, they aren't saying gnome just got it, it's been there since 2.0, it's just better now.
PS: I'm a KDE user, but I'm fair, SVG in KDE still sucks.
XML is a great thing. It could lead to the end of diferences in the look between toolkis and desktops.
Most people complain about choise when desktops are made to look the same way, but acctually, this is choise. Today you can't make a gnome app use the file open dialog from kde.
If QT-Designet can load glade files, why trolltech and gtk team work on a kind of wrapper for the call of signals, so if the programer want, he choose to load a XML file that contains the visual choosing what widget will take it?
This would be not mandatory of couse, if people don't want, just don't use this, and keep working qt and gtk apps as now.
But it would be very cool if I could load gimp saying to it: use qt instead of gtk today, thanks.:)
Why not using divx and mplayer (a downsized version, of course) to play the movies?
mplayer can operate in a lot of ways (that's what I like on it) with various input and output systems, and I think it's nice as backend for playing videos in linux games.
Sure, there is smpeg too, that was used by lokigames.
Just forgot to say why this is a bad thing:
Poor people without money do buy a videogames shouldn't exists.
Things in development countries should be less expensive, our sallaries should be bigger:)
Do you know why this is happening? Well I do know and I can tell you, this because of a de-valorization of brazilian currency (real) that is making every imported product very expensive. The big difference between videogames and computer was the price, but with low offer and a Dollar being 3.6 Reais, a ps2 (imported, sony dosen't build playstations here, they say because if piracy, but it's their fault there is piracy, it's kind sof loophelp) is R$ 1300 (there are varations). Gamecube, that is build here by gradiente is arround same price.
Well, the thing is that 1. we get our sallaries in reais, not dollars, so rellatively, a videogame for us is almost 10 times the price in esa
2. the difference between "in development" contries from europe/usa/japan is bassically that we gain less money for the same job, so besides being more expensive, we have less money to expend too. The minimal sallary in brasil is R$ 200, the medium is R$ 500. How can you buy a product that is R$ 1300 if you have to pay for food/rent/live?
3. releasing older videogames is a way to make cheap videogames. Most poor people dosen't care if they videogame can play Final Fantasy X or DVDs, they don't have money for the games, cds or dvds anyway...
4. master system 3 price is arround R$ 300
5. I already forgot about buying a ps2:P A psx is now more expensive then when I buyied mine (that time our currency was more close than dollar value).
6. the only sollution for all this problem is for semi-condutors where made in the own market contry. But this won't happen, because USA is supporting heavilly those companies to stay there (see the case of microsoft judgement, they said they could move to canada and Bush's administration made a "cool" deal with them).
So basically tectoy is attacking a market that always existed here, but was dominated by illegal importation from paraguay: poor people.
I do like the idea. I do want poor people have fun with videogames too, even that are old ones and I hope tectoy do have suscess.
Mandrake 9.0 dosen't include Pine anymore too.
Too bad I liked it, but I do support GPL software, if pine have those restrictions, it's better that someone just program another (maybe better) similar mail program.:P
This tip is for people who like more icq than aim, kde than gnome, qt than gtk.
For a long time I was in search for a good icq clone for linux, tryied kicq, licq, kxicq, kopete and others.
But this week I found sim-icq - http://sim-icq.sourceforge.net), it even have a windows port and a windowmaker applet. It's full of options, as most kde/linux programs. Really good, and I'm happy with it.
At it's time atari was way ahead from anybody else.
Too bad Atari brazilian cartridges where low quality and none of the ones I own survived until today, but I can download the roms and play it with stella on linux.
Note: downloading roms if you own the original games is legal. (Even that they're broke I still own them)
>and it is well known that many people (at least 50 >to my knowledge, although I am sure there are many >more) have brought classic LEC games simply to play >them using our software
I own Full Throttle (come with my multimedia kit, a old creative discovery 8x) and I plan to buy The Dig once it's supported.
Unhapply games more older than those I can't find here at Brazil shops, but those two are really cheap and playing them on linux is just like a dream for me.
The problem is that eventually world will boycott contries that pollute, this time USA will have to change, and then the rest of the world already changed will have a huge advantage.
Don't think this boycott will come true?
Well, europeans are already asking brazilian producers to make organinc (without toxics or genetics) food for sale and products that dosen't polute.
>Actually, the biggest polluters are third world >nations.
Not right. Yes they/we (I'm brazilian) are the ones that are getting higher taxes of pollution every year, but USA is the biggets poluitor with more than 50% of world's total.
>The problem in cutting such pollutants is that it >costs money
This is a lack of vision. For example, Brazil is getting very hard on industries that pollute sinse RIO-92 and they are creating filters, laggons for cleaning water, etc. This makes a new and strong industry, the cleaning industry that makes money and create more jobs, so in the end there isn't loss, but gain of money in general.
The problem is that american industry allegates a price for de-polluting that is more than 50 times the one is praticed in Brazil, so when they say: we need 5 dollars for a kg of air cleaned, no one can call then guilty, but if you try to find out, you'll find that price can be cheaper than 0,10 dollars.
(this info was from a television interview with a industrial from Brazil that was talking about de-pollution here).
This is right on the matter.

... is that slashdot dosen't have edit, so I can fix DARPA instead of DARP. Sorry
... is that DARP chief is killed in Metal Gear Solid! (psx/pc) :)
.. is that this comes from the samer people who sold Iraq chemical weapons and now are running to try to get thyem back. Hilarious to me! Really! Yeah, I know, it's not that hilarious because it's stupid and makes us think how stupid is army. Gladly I'm a brazilian!

I just got into computer science, 40 people, just one girl.
It's far worse than Electric Engennering I studied before (25/3).

That's why I think software copyright should expire in 25 years. It's more than enought time for you get the bucks and go home :)
