    I agree to a point.

My customers very rarely retain their overall PC, parts like the case become outdated, the PSU ages and anyone very rarely upgrades their CPU or motherboard without upgrading the entire system.

Other parts such as RAM and Hard Drives are replaced/upgraded, but this is also possible in laptops and no doubt the integrated macs.

I think the only reason PC's don't look like this is the high price of integration. If we look at the Windows Media Centre PC's they are the only PC's which cost £1000+ for a high end machine and the price stifles interest. Much like BT's high priced attitude to broadband 6 or more years ago.

I would personally love to sacrifice the huge dust attracting PC Tower box dominating my floor space with all its danging cables.

The focus on mathematics in education in Poland (along with Russia and China) is far higher then in the US. The difference in what a typical high school graduate can do between these countries is huge. (I also note that at least 1/2 of the four Americans amongst the top coders began their education in Singapore) Math is better in Europe than America huh? No kidding. So when you say at least half, do you mean 2 or 1.75 or what?

For the rest of us, I upgraded to 6.1-RC2 last week, and it has somewhat improved SATA performance, but I still get write errors on my SI3112 card, whereas in 5.4 I had none. Hard drives being one of the central parts of a PC, you'd have thought FreeBSD would have embraced SATA controllers, instead it appears to be taking them years to catch up.
