    Probably not the same as this, but I made a patch for "ping", whereby it beeped, and the beep changed pitch depending on the RTT. I wanted to make it echo like Sonar, but I couldn't find out how to do it with /dev/console - I don't think you can change the volume with that.
    Anyway, I forgot I had it, and one day SSHd into my machine at work to test connectivity to somewhere. 15 minutes later I get a call: "Turn that fucking beeping off!".

    Well, their feedback page doesn't work. "Document contains no data".
    "Video requires a Windows Media compatible player - the free Microsoft Windows Media Player is available for download for your platform."

    That's a little presumptious. Don't think Microsoft do a download for Linux.
    Perhaps next time you might use a fully open video codec?
    I'm hoping I'll get a personal reply/visit from Richard Branson regarding this.

    I absolutely agree with this. I work for a company that has obvious interests with phones, and we managed to get a Linux Motorola phone a few years ago from our office and contacts in China. It worked, and everything, and looked great, but we had no way to get to the Linux insides, which meant that it was about as useful as a chocolate fire-guard.
    Unlike some Siemens phones we had - it's very cool to be able to get a phone# prompt, and run all the usual commands.

    This is ironic, as Russia has arguably some of the best computer security experts in the world. Those that know how to exploit the holes can also advise how to secure against threats. I wonder if it's due to talented Russians leaving the country to work abroad?

    Absolutely. I check long and hard before I buy some hardware that it is supported under Linux. If it's not, I don't buy it. Same with software. There is software, and some games that I would love to play, but I'm not reneging on my principles, giving in, and installing Windows. The software companies and games companies can come to me if they want my money. Same with hardware companies.

    I was in Argentina recently, and any of their red wines (vino tinto) tasted better than the wines we get in the UK*. That doesn't mean that I can tell if one is oak-matured, or full-bodied, or has a fruity bouquet - but I can tell that Wine A tastes better, and has less of a nasty aftertaste than Wine B.
    I brought back two bottles of San Felicien Cabernet Sauvignon - mmmm, that stuff is good. Hic.

    * I don't spend a lot on wines here - I'm sure if you spend £50 or up, you can get decent wine here.
