Or, if you are like many people, you have documents on your desk and in piles on the floor that you will never use, your kids birth certificate is in a stack of papers from when you had to take it to school for registration, your file cabinets have partially labeled folders that are in chronological order...as in the order that you stuffed them in the filing cabinet, your will is in the "to be filed" folder in the bottom of said filing cabinet and you could fill the bathtub with your old phone and electric bills.

Hopefully the digital equivalents will be better for the organizationally challenged.

I didn't even get a real good explanation at their website. And I wasn't about to throw down $80+ (for me and three kids) to experiment with some unknown attraction. I've found Management Studio (at least the full version of it, not the express version) to be very buggy and slow. Operations that would take a couple of seconds in EM take upwards of a minute in Management Studio. It has also been crashing pretty regularly on me. I see potential in it, but I feel like I've been handed a pre 1.0 Beta tool, when I had been working with a stable 8.0 version.

I don't know if it is related, but both of them are high functioning autistic, and I think the "life" in the game with it's very simple and clear set of rules is very appealing to them.

My wife and I have been trying to do more of that lately, and the kids eat it up, and the time seems to go faster. It's like we have lost the ability to think creatively in situations like that.

Another aspect that has changed in travel today is the vehicle. We have a minivan, and the only effective way of putting the carseats in puts two of the kids all the way in the back. Even in the middle row, they are much farther back than in a car. There are definite advantages to the size and capacity of a minivan, but personal communication is not one of them. There are times we think we would be much better off with a large sedan/wagon like our parents had.

Isn't it great that we don't have to pay attention to our children anymore in the car just like we don't pay attention to them at home. Why would we need to when the TV/computer/video game is there to "baby-sit" them? We can plug them in at any time...they don't talk to us about any of their inane, childish ideas. We can blissfully act like we are still freewheeling non-parents going off on some big adventure than like the haggard parents we really are who have been forced to "care" for these inferior beings.

I have three of those annoying little brats, ages 3,5, and 7. I know how blissful a moment to yourself is, and how seductive it is to plug them in and tune them out.

But you really need to remember that they will be getting their values/ambitions from whatever is raising them. I think most people would not want to think that they are basically raising their children to be ignorant, negative consumers, but they need to watch the shows their children watch, and pay close attention to the advertising that comes along with those "children's" shows.

As fast as the world goes today, being in the car for a while might be one of the few times that a family can actually talk to each other for an extended period of time. Listen to those children, don't tune them out.

Also, a pro athlete that generates advertising revenue should get a fair portion of that. But the way many of the contracts for both jobs are being written, the employee has no risk. Often times their compensation is not at all tied to performance, and some of the CEO's seem to have clauses built in that compensate them even more in the case of a bust.

CEO's, other upper management, musicians, actors and sports stars should be paid a fair salary for the work they are doing and then be compensated with bonuses based on long term performance.

  23. End of life issues on Microsoft-Antitrust.gov Opens for Public · · Score: 4, Interesting
My company develops windows applications, and one thing we are running into is the end of life issues.

Right now NT4 has reached the end of its support, and will be end-of-life next June. There are still many corporate environments where NT4 is the norm, and many of them aren't going to be changing anytime soon. This makes it hard for a developer who wants to create a product that works on NT4 through XP, as there is little or no support for adding or changing the NT4 platform at MS. However, it is not a problem for MS, since if they have any problems with an application (Word, Excel, IE, etc) not working on NT4, they have the ability to ship a change to the operating system with the update to the application(probably even after the "end-of-life"). This makes it hard for developers who have to say, yes you can use our product, but you have to upgrade to a later version of Windows, where MS can just say go ahead and buy this product now...you can upgrade the operating system when you are ready. This drives more of the application use on these older systems to only using MS products.

I wonder if that aspect has ever been discussed in any of the anti-trust proceedings.
