I've had a broadband connection (first DSL, then switched to cable) for about 2 years now. I would never go back. The ability to sit down at my computer and not have to worry about if someone is on the phone or if I'm going to get disconnected because it rings (or miss an important call or whatnot because I've got *70 on) coupled with the fact that checking email/light surfing (like finding movie times, bank balances, checking slashdot) takes relatively no time, as opposed to 5-10 minutes of dial in, get rejected, dial in again, load load load, log off, oops I forgot something, log back on. Also, its nice not to get disconnected out of games because your modem decided that you were online too long. =)
I think that Star Trek was ground breaking, for lots of reasons, not the least of which is the first inter-racial kiss on television. I also think that it gave the other sci fi writers lots of ideas on why/how things work in the future and space. This sounds more like a badly written DnD adventure. "the pilot"? "the doctor"? what are they, character templates? I'll take one level of pilot and two levels of captain, please...
of course, its Fox, and they did bring us LOTS of good Sci Fi shows, so I'm not saying its going to be bad, just not "groundbreaking".
I mean, who else but pirates need to burn THAT much data THAT fast?? I mean, really folks, this is to make sure that we can't store 4.7 GB's of Booby Spears and N'Stink on portable media that can be hidden from the gov't (in unthinkable places like, oh, a Cd case!)
well, if I read the article correctly, all they said was that they made them look/act as closely as possible out of the box... it doesnt sound like they took anything away from either, just set the preconfigured options so that they'd look the same to someone like me, who doesnt currently use linux but might one day want to install it. Its the same with Windows, they set the preconfigs the same, and if you dont like them, you change them. But conformity is nice, out of the box. (in other words, if I watch Bob install red hat, and then I go home and install red hat, its nice to know what its supposed to look like when it boots, rather than getting something thats completely different, albeit perhaps not wrong)
Anyone remember the old style CD-Rom drives with the little arm thingess that held the CD while it spun around? well, a friend of mine worked for a small computer wholesaler, and one of the techs jokingly told a customer that they were "brakes" and if he removed them, the CD would go faster... a week later they were replacing the drive...
I assume this is true (I didnt actually see it) but if its not, its damn funny anyway:)
The world trade center attack was a disgusting and cowardly act made by individuals who should all rot in whatever hell they believe in.
Also, anyone profiting from this event should also rot in hell. I cant be the only one who is tired of seeing merchandise related to this event that. Not that I want to forget, just enough is enough.
They said what game would rock, NWN or UT2k3? UT, I have no doubts, but as for NWN, I prefer my Diablo more, well, Diabloish... not DnD in Diablo clothing... the battles were boring, the plot lame, and the characters were "blah"... mainly because its very difficult to "role play" without being able to talk (game voice ran like crap behind NWN's). Also, my DnD sessions never crashed in the middle of an attack (and I run 1.7 p4 w/1024 megs of RAM a 64 meg G4 Ti on Win XP, and dont go saying its XP's fault, because that is a very stable OS, regardless of what you might say).
Not trying to troll here, but I seem to recall another eagerly anticipated game (neverwitner nights) being "available" for linux... not saying this wont take happen, but...
I haven't figured out how to do my job, so rather than search on Google, I figure I'll just be lazy and ask you questions. Also, I have a computer for sale thats small, but I dont want to pay for advertising, can you just link to it? Thanks.
someone submitted this to two different departments, the "need-for-speed" department and the "more-mhz-equals-more-happy" department. After all, we all know that different areas of a company dont ever know what each other are doing, just look at Sony!!
Its nice to know that the new line of Graphic cards will come with new shading effects. there is nothing worse than sitting in front of the screen playing a game and having the sun glare through a window on your screen. Being a geek too busy to go out and buy curtains, I used one of my bath towels to block some of the glare. Alas, this doesnt work to well. It warms my heart to know that the next gen graphic cards will fix this problem with their new shaders, and I can once again dry myself off after my weekly shower without taking the "curtains" down!
"'Given the numbers from 1-10 missing one number, how do you find the missing number?'"
lets examine this question here. If I give you the number's 1-10, minus a SINGLE number, then how difficult is it to FIND THE MISSING NUMBER? maybe thats why you get burned, you're asking silly questions.
Once an avid IE user (I've hated netscape since I think it was called "gold" edition), I tried Mozilla due to its Tabbed Browsing, which for anyone who DOESNT know (I didnt until I used it) is that you can open links in the same window, but they are in different tabs, like a notebook is divided into sections using... wait for it... tabs. this means that when you're flipping between multiple pages, you dont have to have umpteen windows open. Now, this has nothing to do with KDE 3.1 or whatever, but tabbed browsing is wonderful, and those of you who havent used it, should try out Mozilla.
and I am a staunch (ducks) Windows (covers head) XP professional user, so its not like I switched because of a hatred for M$ (note, I play lots of games, so Windows works better for me)
Played JK2: Jedi Outcast? While it's your basic first person shooter for the first 3 levels, once Kyle gets to use the Force, and consequently the Lightsaber, its a whole new ballgame. The lightsaber duels are pretty cool to watch, especially in the "duel" multiplayer mode. Plus you have a 3rd person perspective while using it, yet is seemlessly transitions into 1st person for using regular blasters.
Also, what about Command and Conquer: Renegade? that was pretty innovative, in that it had (if the reviews are correct, I have never actually played it) modes where you could play a pretty close C&C multiplayer game as a FPS.
And then theres SoF2, which has game types not usually seen (AFAIK) in other FPS (demoltion, to name one).
Blizzard will sell on name alone. Personally, I hate the whole massively online genre, but will purchase this and play it for at least a month or two, just because its Blizzard, and they have a proven track record. I am sure that other people will, too. I see its only real competition being SWG, as people longed to be padawans long before they were at home in Azeroth.
Someone needs either an HTML class or a lesson in editing, or both... trying to read through that hurt!!!

Now, I love anime as much as the next geek, and am all for it being the theatre, but I thought we hated Disney?

Really, whats wrong with it? It's a heckuva lot better than the previous releases of windows. Go on, mod me down for being Off Topic.
I suppose its better that this is a repost as opposed to an article about "Rings Around the Earth From Recent Meteorites"...

Just check out the Awful Link of the Day at www.somethingawful.com and you'll see that those numbers are far lower than 99.9%!

Linux on the X-Box? Suuuuure, next some high up at Microsoft will admit that windows isnt secure, or that someone landed on the "moon"...
:P

Sheesh, I can't even get the damn thing to run on WinXP and they've got it on Linux!!! What's next, Linux on my Playstation???
::Sigh:: you dont need to hack a system to bring a corporation to its knees, you just need to post a link on slashdot...
anyone have the text?

I formatted, transferred everything over my LAN, opened up winamp, tried to play something, and nothing happened!!! I was dismayed!!!
:)
Then I installed the sound card drivers, and Poof! it worked!!
And yes, that WAS a joke.
