Someone under contract to Apple leaked information, breaking his/her/its NDA agreement, breaking the law. This isn't being 'sue happy' this is following up on a broken contract. I.e. I hire you to paint my house/build a beowulf cluster/whatever for me. you do it, but I refuse to pay you. You are not going to have too many alternatives other than to sue me for breech of contract. Now sure these are very different examples, but both are contracts that are broken, plain and simple.
The only think a little different in this case, is that they are going after thinksecret because they don't know who leaked the information. Not the nicest thing to do, but perfectly legal in California as has been mentioned above (don't like it too bad, you voted for it, unless things are passed now without public approval. sorry I'm from Canada, eh). I imagine they are just trying to scare the poor kid into handing over server logs. Any other company would be pissed too if all of your big product launches were made public a couple weeks before.

Off to hide in my Igloo to protect from flames....and, what is with all the bloody mac hating, you don't like it don't buy it. Just because you don't like a ford or ferrari doesn't mean you spent all your time complaining about how crappy they are, you buy yourself a honda, gm, porsche whatever and move on. end of story.
which city are you in? If it is a larger city, check the local computer paper, a good half of the systems advertised in there will be AMD, just get one with a decent video card, mobo, and ram and you'll be set.
I'm not sure about big 'brand name' companies that offer AMD.
The problem is not really the CPU, it's the drive IO as has been mentioned earlier, eventhough the CPU is pretty idle, there is a good bit information being sent between the hard drive and dvd burner, if you add a recent game to the mix, the hard-drive will have to keep the dvd fed with data to burn, and the game fed with textures, geometry info, sounds etc. that could well overwork the hard-drive and cause problems with either the game or the dvd burning. Chances are the CPU would still be fairly idle during all of this.
See, by the time he would get to retire, there will be no such thing as Social Security. Most retirement homes look pretty much like jails anyway, and jails have a little bit of excitement once in a while (prison riot v.s. bingo night). So I bet he is thinking of this like an early retirement.
Seems that most things that are hot this year (instancing etc) have been in AO from day 1. Mind you that day 1 was pretty ugly for AO, but it's very good these days, and you can play it for free for a full year or possibly more!
give it a shot if you were scared by the really bad launch.
The world's economies system collapsed yesterday as thousands and thousands of people demanded money for their time trying to understand messages posted to a website refered to as "/."
I had this happen to me when Safeway introduced their card, they were handing them out left and right. Every receipt still welcomes me as 'a new club card member.'
Alternatively you can usually provide a phone number, so next time you buy a pack of condoms, tell them your grandma's or ex's phone number.
It seems that you can almost get something similar for AMD platforms, and existing Intel ones as well. Some new cases flip the mobo upside down in the case and put it at the top, while moving the power supply to the bottom. Obviously not quite as good as a whole re-design like BTX but it seems to help quite a bit.

Perhaps sure, but I believe games, like any other medium, bring out what is already inside. And of course people with certain tendencies (wanting to shoot people) are drawn to games/movies/books/etc that indulge those tendencies (getting to shoot people).
In my opinion if the game was actually responsible for pushing these guys over the edge, it could have been anything else, a movie, tv show, book, you name it.
Now about a happier better society, Violent tendencies are in everyone, different people release it in different ways, sports, drinking, wife abuse, video games. The truth is that people just plain suck and have a lot of anger, the trick is in how to release it. Generaly speaking, video games are a great way to release this anger.
Ummm... the menu bar has been on the top since 1986, while your windoz/unix box still had only a comand line. it is for consistency, and it makes bloody sense, where else would you possibly want it?
The article actually brings something up that I have always noticed on a Mac (os 9 & X), surfing the web is painfully slow compared to a windows box. I've used IE, Netscape, Opera, everything I could get my hands on, but it is still slower than on a pc. Is this a rendering thing, but it happens in os 9 even more than X? Just curious if anyone out there knows why this is.
Slightly offtopic...
Where are the real issues this election? The future of a country is being decided by someone's service record in a war that took place 30 years ago? Honestly, WFT!

For the love of god! Why is it that the second anything has the possibility of being shipped outside of North America and Europe it will automatically fall into the terrorists hands.
For 9/11 they stole American planes in America! if they are going to do something of that scale again, you can pretty much bet your ass they will steal/use something that is already in America.
They Raided Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Paris Hilton, and Donald Trump. Appearantly, they were using the hard-drives to only heat their homes when they realized they could store data on them. It wasn't mp3's, just backups of goat.cx.
Valve, please keep pumping out revisions of CS, I for one do not want to deal with all the 12 year olds with no spelling comprehension on any game I play.
I don't think anyone is opposed to the Iraqi people being better off, it's the reasoning for it. Instead of making up some crap about wmd's why didn't Bush just come out and say 'look this ass has been killing x people per year, is disregarding UN requirements on a lot of things' it is the worlds duty to the Iraqi people to stop this crap from happening any longer.
I would have supported that, and I don't think anyone could have said no to that, except maybe the majority of the American public.
And whatever has happened to Afganistan for god's sake! The country seems like it's collapsing and we don't hear a word about it. If the US had send a quarter of the troops it has in Iraq we probably would have had Osama by now. It just looks like sloppy work, go in bomb everything, not even eliminating the thread properly and leave. It's if you got surgery for cancer, and they just sort of took out some flesh around the cancer growth, closed you up and called it a day, not even following up whether it was removed completely or not.
I think this is what is pissing 'the world' off so much, the US goes in bombing, but there is little followthrough or planning for the aftermath. People just don't swith from a very long totalitarian regime to democracy overnight.
I believe I read somewhere, sorry don't remember where, that the heated water coming back into the lake is the equalent of an extra 15-60 minutes of sun-shine beaming onto the lake per year.
Definately look at an ATI card, as ATI and Valve are sleeping together. Much like nVidia & iD are for Doom 3.
As the other posters said, you would be stupid to buy anything now, wait for the game and then run out and grab a video card that will be proven to run it well.
Just finished the game on my trusty Geforce 2 GTS 32 meg card. (system: Athlon xp 1600+, 768 megs ram)
Ran in 800x600 on low settings without too many slowdows. Except when 5+ enemies were on screen it was quite smooth, not 60 fps but at least 20. And it didn't crash every other level like Far Cry did on me.
I fully agree, I haven't had windows crash in a good two years. I do quite a bit with it too: games, 3d animation, graphic design (photoshop etc), heavy web usage etc. Sure apps crash, but they haven't brought windows down with them yet.
Honestly, WFT!

Thank you,
This is right on, If I am in Europe, I hear old men in a cafe debating and yelling at each other about politics, who's in office, who should be etc.
In the states, all that I hear about is what happened on Survivor, and what happened on Friends last night.

I finished the game on a Geforce 2 GTS with 32 megs of Ram, how sadistic does that make me? :)
Wow, it even has a 'no function' button on the remote, these guys thought of everything!
(page 2 of the article, on the diagram of the remote)
