Apparently the indoctrination has been successful with you. In reality the government's power derives from the people. The Constitution is not there to specify what rights the all-powerful government has deigned to grant upon us mere mortal citizens, it is in place to keep the government in check. It specifies what the government is allowed to do and what it is not allowed to do. Somewhere along the line the people forgot this and allowed the government to seize a great deal of power that is beyond it's authority.

I had to endure classes where nonsense was pushed forward as "fact", and if a student questioned the "facts" he was marked a trouble maker. I had to hold strong to my faith that was under attack by teachers on a daily basis, not because of reality, but because they were trying to mold us into good little liberals. History classes that downplayed the contributions of the majority, while hyping the contributions of the minorities. Before you start throwing stones at what a religious school is doing, make sure you step out of your own glass house first.

I remember back in high school, I brought a camera in to school and they took it away and kept it all day, so I could get it before I went home for the day, that is not because of the disruption it made, I was very careful not to run it during class, it was because it represents a danger to their power base, if I got something they do wrong on video, it would cause them problems, and they do a great deal wrong in our schools, only an idiot does not think so.
