I remember back about 6 to 7 months ago a protest by the players occurred in DAoC (Dark Age of Camelot).
The complaints were regarding a particular faction (hibernia to those who know the game). Players encouraged other players in the same faction to join a particular server for a protest regarding the issues.
The problem being, the Hibernia realm was the last developed realm and this does show rather well when compared against others.
Class balance issues, some monster/mobile issues and general complaints were all held. Interestingly enough it did get some attention, but I believe most of the answers weren't exactly concrete.
None the less, a protest is a protest, and it is worth mention.
It is somewhat relevent, but you just won't see the effects.
A small bit of syndicated programming comes down from Telstar 4. UPN/CBS also operates their backup signal from this satelite. This has been moved to telstar 5 now. I believe most programming went to telstar 5 and 6 now.
For those who use those sats... it was just a bump in the programming schedule. Everything was routed around the failure in a bit of a rush.
You could have spent a 100$ at the time and purchased a POS creative card that didn't even do anything the box claimed! I hacked a verite install and I did get verite quake to run on it. (If you call frame/minute really good performance. But oh did those frames look pretty)
Yep, got screwed pretty bad, I should have spent the extra 50 and purchased the voodoo. I did purchase that card later and I was a happy gamer.
I never want it to end if it is something I enjoy. Take for instance, Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner), if by chance they kill off my favorite character I might just have to make those responsible suffer.
It is a comic book for god's sake and if the author has ran out of creativity... take him out to pasture and shoot him.
I think a great example would happen to be with the Simpson's. It has been around for a while and they manage to keep making me laugh.
There are probably only two infinite sources in the world to date, creativity and taxes, I expect both to be around for a while longer.
Blocking one ip address in a subnet is frivelous and ineffective. In order to be completely sure you have stopped the spammers access you need to ban their whole subnet.
So, if your neighbors continue to infringe on their network benefits (willing or unwilling), you may need to take some precautions.
With constant problems such as this it would be wise to limit your upstream smtp traffic through an intelligent proxy.
Take charge of the network rather then complain about the aftermath.
One day, I log in, everyone had lost something. Not a full loss, but enough to upset the majority of players.
Their fix, give every character 20 million, which was alot. Well, I wound up with 80 million and I didn't lose anything of value. My friend had quite the same setup and a demo account as well.
People were quick to adjust to the new economy and they wanted every cent you had plus a few more if you wanted to replace a hard to find item.
Some people refused to use the money and spent it on frivelous junk.
Me, that was about the time I quit so I unloaded all of my extra cash onto a friend.
That wasn't the only time I had a problem with the game, bu maybe it has improved since then. (although apparently not)
However, to their credit, they were the friendliest group I have had the pleasure of dealing with. GM's often ran games, gave out prizes, organized special events and created special monsters for such events. Occassionally, those moments make me want to go back to the game.
However, they have the worst tread mill system in existance. --- reason for leaving
Thankfully the teams that use it here aren't picky about eye candy (they are used to ACT! for pete's sake).
We are planning on converting to phprojekt soon. Yeah, it isn't a local client, but most of these guys don't even take their laptop into the field.
The benefits of going to a multi-user server actually sparked some interest in management. Especially when I said it would be very easy to remove access, claim access over thier contacts, and let them go all in the same day.
I just have to write a script to import the ACT exported database. Maybe, I'll write an export for phprojekt so the ACt users can pull data down.
I would compare characteristics from my potential product to that of similar products in the market. Then I would compare sales figures. ie, compare age demos of various genres or which types of titles sell the best. Hell, I would even glance as to which company is selling the most titles and try to understand their secret to success.
You would only need to look at pure console sales as a point of interest for producing on that platform. Its already a bit of a known fact that the large console markets are PS2 and XBOX.
It doesn't do alot of good to know there are X Billion people in North America, if you don't know how many people would be potentially interested in buying your product.
I believe asseenontv.com is affiliated with/run by a company that deals in volume sales of infomercials and commercials.... product placement services.
So while they don't own everything in relation to the product, they do manage at least one aspect of its sales.
Someone at my office could better answer this question, but you get me instead!
I'm pretty much spent on telling everyone to behave. I really think we should just let the script kiddies have their way with the SCO people now. No court victories or whatnot... and already they are asking for payment when they know this IP scheme is in question.
So, they are not behaving like decent people and our little kiddies don't need to either.
Depends on a few factors to determine worth on something such as this.
If you are a casual player and do not spend enormous amounts of time it can create a higher cost over time. Especially when a player is still feeling out a world, mechanics and general leveling practices.
If it takes several months to fully flesh out and develope a character those monthly fees can add up. However, if you immediatley purchase an experienced character you have bypassed months of treadmill activity.
Remembering, earnings are based on player time and skill level. Thus, someone else with enough effort could generate a feasibly well rounded character in a shorter period of time.
It is however a difficult matter to debate whether or not removing this treadmill playing time will harm the providers funds. Players may or may not stay with the game longer.

Thats funny...
First mention I had that T4 was down happened when one of the guys in our control room said...
"The porn channels are down!"
Clearly this interuption in our control room was a boon to the overal morale.
It is somewhat relevent, but you just won't see the effects.

Could be worse....

I like your thinking...
You are most definately not new here.
You actually took the time to read the article?
You must be new here.
A thousand or so of these half million dollar lawsuits are all that is needed to take down such a large corporation.
Given current trends, I wonder how unlikely this is...
Like the apes say, "oh shit, spaceballs, there goes the planet"
You failed to provide a copy of the gpl in your sig!
Aren't you supposed to be distributing along that with your gpl'd works?
You sir, are in violation!
I'm a bit different I suppose.
I never want it to end if it is something I enjoy. Take for instance, Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner), if by chance they kill off my favorite character I might just have to make those responsible suffer.

You forgot the atom bomb....
Sure, volcano's are nasty little things, but we still got one up on em. We can flash fire the earth in about 4 hours.
Just another example of man once again out-performing nature with regards to massive global destruction.
If someone gets the idea to mention super huge rouge comets that could do just the same. I'll remind you, those things are super slow!

Ignorance is a poor excuse.
Really...
The fourth link I had was "Alternatives to linux-apache-mysql-php" and yes it is a microsoft.com link detailing migration.
I didn't even remotely use the words migration or alternatives in my search...
Hrm... seems the web is taineted with evil tonight.
I played Red Moon a long time ago...
Database corruptions are not uncommon!

Its cricket...
Think mrtg
Its dynamic in the sense that it is generated at regular intervals, but it is static in the sense the webserver is serving pre-generated content.
So, yes, the page is static.... most of the time.
Does anyone know if my sig will hold up in court?
Um,
They stopped producing the Game Cube?
ACT is a bit of a tough bugger to replace.
Thankfully the teams that use it here aren't picky about eye candy (they are used to ACT! for pete's sake).

That is a rather simplistic view I'm afraid.

Buy and Burn all the xbox's you want.
I, for one, welcome our new moderator overlords!
I'm in total agreeance, but my opinion may be biased since I do thoroughly enjoy foreign particles in all of my meat barbeque sessions.
However, a long time ago, my friends found an excellent use for the george foreman grill.
LAN parties...
No gaming event is complete without fresh cooked meets and other tasties.
Of course... we are also the same group that decided to combine alcohol with Quake3 at the time.
Experience may vary!
Actually...

Taliban Inside!
With the not so new taliban inside your Intel servers are more powerful then ever! Its a good thing, we promise!
Ok, well, maybe not.

Geez...
/me rocks back and forth asking the voices to stop.
That is so unfair. Your Mickey Doll (tm) seems insightful, informative and whitty and mine just tells me to do bad things.
Doll: Wakey, wakey, its early in the morning and you need to burn down the neighbors house while they sleep. Heehee.
(evil satan voice)
Do it now, your master commands you, or I'll have Donald bite off your balls.
