I also live in Florida, Tampa to be specific. I moved into a house north of the city and about 2 years in starting noticing these toads in the back yard. At first I didn't think much of them...they were small and few in numbers. Then they started getting bigger and I do mean big. But still, I didn't think much of them. I never left any sort of food outside for them so I figured they ate bugs and whatever else they could find.
Then one day after letting my dogs outside I noticed one was salivating profusely, so much that it looked like someone had turned on a faucet in her mouth. She is one to chase everything and anything...squirrels, anoles, whatever. I wiped her up and she seemed fine so I didn't worry much about it. A month or so later we went out of town. When we got back, the woman who petsat for us said that the same thing had happened to her. I thought weird, but again didn't think much of it because nothing happened again.
During a later visit to the vet, I mentioned to them about these toads in the yard. The tech went into the back and came back with one of these toads in a formaldehyde jar. She then informed me exactly what they were and how dangerous they are to pets. I then put 2 and 2 together and realized how lucky my dog was (she weighs only 30 lbs).
Since that time, anytime I see one I immediately kill it. Fuck being humane. They need to be eradicated. I get out the shovel and start smacking the crap out of them. Sometimes it takes a good 4 or 5 hits before they finally succumb.
Just to add to this story...I was listening to a local talk radio station on my way home from work yesterday. They played an interview with a woman who was extremely frustrated, almost to the point of tears, with FEMA and their apparent lack of knowledge on the situation of people displaced by Katrina.
She called them in order to make a claim and they asked her for her address so they could send her the required paperwork (not sure HOW she called them). She told them she no longer had an address as her home no longer existed. They then asked for her home phone number so they could call her back...she again informned them she no longer had a home. They then asked for her cell phone number. She again told them there was no cell phone service where she is located. They then asked her for her fax number...then her email address....you get the picture.
FEMA's motto must be "Let's make it hard for people to get the support they need."
Is FEMA living in a hole, in a cave, in the middle of a desert or what?
Assuming the scanning process actually works and is easy enough, say I have a roll of 'Match 3 and Win!' tickets. I scan each ticket, looking underneath the foil for 3 matches...say the 10th card I scan has 3 matches for a $500 prize. I tear that card out to keep as a winning card and join the split cards (in some near undetectable way). Wash, rinse repeat. I now have a collection of winning cards that I can cash in.
Say it takes 5 hours to scan all the tickets and I manage to collect $3000 in winning tickets. I just made myself $600/hour for my efforts.
One of the things that drove me away from Fedora was that it is publically acknowledged to be public grounds for vetting Red Hat's technology which will be the basis for RHEL.
"The SUSE Linux operating system and associated open source applications are used by Novell as the basis for its fully supported and hardened enterprise Linux offerings (for example, Novell Linux Desktop)."
if this is your reasoning for (not) choosing a distro, guess you better find a new one (again).
Your comments implied that FC is basically betaware and that FC users are being 'used' by Redhat as free testers...I'm not sure what exactly gives you that impression. Nothing is FC is what I would deem to be 'bleeding edge' (which impies a risk to the user) by any stretch of the phrase. But I also wouldn't go so far as to call it mature or tried and true either.
Point is, FC makes a great desktop dist. No futzing around with config files, recompiling the kernel, etc. It just works. It's up to date, offers a very friendly user experience and is very stable.
I suggest you read their About page and Objectives page. FC exists as the "basis" for their commercial products. FC is not a "test bed" as you call it.
The packages they release are quite stable and are no more buggy than any other distribution. It's not anything like running Debian unstable/testing (which I did for several years before switching to FC).
When he refers to 'script' he means a php script as Source Guardian is a php code encrypter/obfuscator. So don't think that just because he used the word 'script' that the project was not ambitious or important, didn't serve a real business need, or was not taken seriously.
I agree with (c), though. I would NEVER agree to that. If I pay someone to develop customized software, the software source comes with it and belongs to me.
Once people find out you work with or have any knowledge regarding computers, they are all over you about helping them with their computer woes.
I recently moved to a new neighborhood. Once my neighbors found out what I do for a living, they were asking me to look at their computers. So far I've helped 3 of them.
One was wondering why their computer was slow. When I got there to look at it, turns out it was a win95, 10yo, never updated, virus infected, spyware infiltrated POS. I did my best to clean it up without formatting the drive, but told them they should really think about upgrading to something a bit newer. All I got for the time spent was a 'Thanks Dude'. Asshole.
Other 2 were much better. All I did was clean sasser, install sygate firewall, ad-aware and AVG. One guy found me a bag of my favorite hot fries (andy capp!) and the other installed an irrigation system in my front yard at cost.
And stupid me, not running a personal firewall on my laptop (doh!), got hit this way. Here I am working away and my box reboots itself and then i see all sort crap going out to port 135...immediately pulled the connection. easy enough to clean, but still.
i block everything at the router on my home network, but since i was vpn'd in to work...completely bypassed the firewall on the router. home boxes are clean as a whistle.
running zone alarm now. seems to work.
what porn??? there were a couple titty shots...WOOPIDEEDOO!!!!!
and as far as an 'orgy' goes, i never saw it as an 'orgy'...bunch of people celebrating, dancing. a little primal, yes, but far from an orgy (in the caligula sense).
I totally agree. I quit the single player game and tried my hands at the multiplayer aspect, but it just didn't cut it. The gameplay consisted of your standard mission type goals...kill this guy, report in, etc, etc. boring...I finally traded it in at electronics boutique for a measley $15 in store credit. I'm just about through buying PC games.
On a side note about EB, I used to purchase all my PC games from them, due to their liberal return policy for PC games and their price matching. They've since instituted a 'final purchase' policy (at least in my area, i don't know if it is country-wide) on PC games as of 3/17, just like their console games and they no longer price match.
It was nice to be able to 'try before you buy'. unfortunately, we can't rent PC games from blockbuster, so sometimes, even with researching a game, you wind up with a dud. At least you could take it back and exchange it for something else.
Anyways, the store employees weren't too thrilled with the policy and gave me the customer service # and the district manager's # to call and complain about it since they said that management was not listening to them. we'll see what comes of it.
ie, you give sell someone a loaded gun because with the *intent* of having self-protection, meaning, you gave it to them under the pretense they were going to use it for lawful purposes...then they go out and shoot someone in a crime...are you to be an accessory then?
same goes for virus code...you give someone the code with the intent to teach them something. then they go and release it into the wild...you should be held accountable? i think not.
now if you gave (distributed) knowing they were going to release it into the wild, then perhaps yes, but that is stretching it a bit.

What's not feasible about that?
how do they get their mail trucks so close to the front door to be able to do that?
ooooooh, your post(wo)men must WALK! I don't think I've ever seen my postman get out of his truck.

also from the FAQ:
Why is Novell starting the openSUSE project now? (last sentence)
"They will also ultimately influence the commercial SUSE Linux products businesses use to run their applications."
and
What is the relationship of the openSUSE project to Novell? (last sentence again)
"The SUSE Linux operating system and associated open source applications are used by Novell as the basis for its fully supported and hardened enterprise Linux offerings (for example, Novell Linux Desktop)."

that trying to read a Salon article is like going to look at timeshares just to get the free trip?

True, except the latest versions of php 4.x have a 'CLI', non-web version.
As a matter of fact, the older versions had a CGI version which could be run from the console as well.
So, yes, it should have been included.

If you had even bothered to try, every link on 'Matt's Script Archive' takes you to the real CPAN front page.

well, i can twist that around too...
