Yes, you *could* make them efficient, but they don't.
The whole Constitution was the constraint.
You almost stated the problem. Now it's carbon emissions. Next it's RF emissions, or something else. Nothing is ever good enough. There will always be the next thing to regulate and create new rules over and interfere with the things that make progress possible.
Read up on doing business in the old countries. Countries that have laws going back thousands of years. Not because they're good laws, but because it's hard to get a law off the books.
I predict that once the pile of rules becomes too onerous to comply with, people will just ignore them. At best a corrupt official will use them to extract money from your business personally, or bring the full weight of the law down on you.
So, do you really think those other forms of pollution were fixed? Or simply moved elsewhere?
You know, businesses don't seem to have a problem with fines and all manner of requirements.
Wtf?
No, they actually do things like leave the state if they're lucky. They go out of business if they're not.
Ok, lets look at it like a programming perspective. Imagine you could only run your program on one computer, and it's in a fixed state.
And EVERY layer of management used to be a coder, and are adding to the project. To help, to justify their jobs, and to show that they're "Fixing problems".
Old code almost never gets removed, and they system just gets slower and buggier over time.
You can't just keep on adding more rules and regulations, eventually people will have to ignore them just to function. That is, if they're staying.
Now continue that line of thought. The third world country isn't getting much better, they're third world because of the way they're run. They just have more money now.
So now your 1st world country is completely dependent on it's food supply from a 3rd world country.
Well, ok then. Show me another tech manager that did what Jobs did. Actually, show me ten. Since it was so easy and worthless.
The people you list worked on theory. And? Everyone works on theory. Or do you honestly believe that if those people hadn't created those theories, they never would have been made.
Wow. You don't have the slightest idea on how wealth is created, do you?
Interesting. Is that what happened to Google?

Whew. Thanks for clarifying that. I was worried we were destroying something valuable.
Just an insect guys! Keep working!

What the hell is tl;dr ?
I listened to the Audiobook of "A moon is a harsh mistress" and I thought it was laughably bad.
Do you know if they changed it for the Audiobook?
Um. No.
See, they promise this EVERY TIME. "Let us raise taxes and we promise, this time, to cut spending."
Never happens.
This is why the spending cuts must be made first.
Now continue that line of thought. The third world country isn't getting much better, they're third world because of the way they're run. They just have more money now.

What could POSSIBLY GO WRONG?
A hundred years from now a man will be able to be virtually immortal.
Or wiped out by a genetically engineered virus that was designed to cure baldness, and mutated.
Good luck with that. I've found Steam to be the best solution for managing/installing my game collection.
It has nothing to do with being a lowlife idiot. It's a trust issue.
And if you don't trust them, then set up your employment contract to reflect that.
I have. I played a type of game like that while I was unemployeed.
The amount of time and effort and focus it required was almost like a job.
Then I got a job and stopped playing.
Really? JUST lobbying?
There was no interest on the politicians side to "Do something" about domestic terrorists?
Both sides were looking for the other.
Yes.
Man, these questions are easy! Ask another!
I'm sorry, you're using headphones, with magnets in them, in an MRI?

How will you rent one if they don't exist?
And they won't exist because if everyone is driving ford focus (or similar) vehicles, SUVs won't be made.
Zombies don't get paid to be there.
I joined the Tea Party.
However, your plan of giving up might work.
Samsung is one of my favorite companies, but to my surprise, they're absolutely terrible at making smartphones.
I was really interested in the new Galaxy Nexus, until I saw it was made by Samsung.
The point of the handicapped parking spaces is for people who have physical trouble getting around. Actually getting into the building.
If you can drive a big ass motorcycle, you don't have that trouble.
If you're deaf, you don't have that trouble.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over this great Flash game I'm playing on my Android phone.
(Insert hysterical sounds here)
Global warming! Global warming!
How do you figure?
What have you seen when examining people who are free to do anything? Were you amazed?
Or did you find yourself in the worst of slums?
Wow, you make it sound like it happens every day.
Well, ok then. Show me another tech manager that did what Jobs did. Actually, show me ten. Since it was so easy and worthless.
