I just ordered the readyNAS X6 this week. The selling points were: Raid-5 X-RAID and an a salesman from the company that hung out on our Audio-video board, answered our questions, sent ideas to the engineers (Which were sometimes implemented!) and acted the complete opposite of a company PR hack.
I bought the ReadyNAS because I think that sort of thing should be rewarded.
RIAA wants to sue teenage girl and her Mother. Mother says you can't sue me, I had nothing to do with it. RIAA can't sue teenage girl, too young. RIAA asks court to appoint a fake mother (Guardian) that they can sue?
That's 18 times faster using the RAID array to write an arbitary 31M file. Try that with your desktop PC. And that's with the RAID array in use by several other people. You're not going to see that kind of real-world performance boost using software.
Ok, I've got the impression that you're using system memory to do this? If so, where can I look up how to do this?
Also, my original point was that 100M isn't a lot of memory. Your file writing/reading test is interesting, but if that happens, you've blown 1/3 of your available memory on just one transaction. Of course, it's not my system and I have no idea what kind of activity you're dealing with, I'm just surprised, that's all.
Thanks for the figures, how many disks do you have in your RAID? 7500 or 10000 RPM?
I don't know what's worse. That Serenity only made 10 mil it's opening weekend, or that it was in second place (Only 5 mil under #1) for box office recipts.
That page points out a wankel engine that runs on 10 liters per hour, or 2.6 gallons. Now, if that plane is going 200 miles an hour, that's 77 miles per gallon.
it's not "28 MPG", it's "up to 28 MPG". I guess that they first flew up a mile, and then measured fuel consumption while falling down.
(blink) Ok, maybe things are different where you come from, but everywhere I've seen MPG used, it's been "up to X MPG". It's never really needed to be pointed out because it's one of those things that's inherent with reality.
Why would the company website be any more trustworthy than the company ad literature?
"If they can really create an aircraft like this that sips fuel better than your average automobile (in the US at least), but haven't bothered to start pushing the technology behind their rotary engines to anybody in the auto industry - not even Mazda - I would be forced to conclude that the company is full of drooling morons."
Yeah, you don't know anything about this company do you? They've had a design for the engine on the drawing board for years. But they can't convince anyone to produce the thing in mass quantities. They're all terrified of lawsuits.
lol. Hype? HYPE? What hype? They didn't even start the ads for the Movie until 2 weeks before it. Everyone I've lent the DVDs to have loved it. There's no hype because it's damn hard to describe the show.
Yeah, you are one of the very few people who don't like the show. At this point I'd be willing to say "What's wrong with you?". Seriously.
So, what kind of passive entertainment do you find better than Firefly?
What did the CompSci major say back?
Ha ha. Very funny. Now get out of my way, my shift is next.
Well, yeah it's not the selling point of the iPod. It doesn't have these things. Add them, and it becomes a selling point.
That's not a bug, it's a feature.
The app stays in memory. That's why Macheads say that it's "Snappy". The OS doesn't load the software from scratch every time you want to use it.
Annoying whem you have a 1GB limit on the mini mac.

What risks do you look for when evaluating a contract?
Just because you put the word "Cowboy" in the title, doesn't make it a Western.
I'm not a laywer, so what this looks like is:
RIAA wants to sue teenage girl and her Mother.
Mother says you can't sue me, I had nothing to do with it.
RIAA can't sue teenage girl, too young.
RIAA asks court to appoint a fake mother (Guardian) that they can sue?
I'm surprised they haven't tried something like this with music videos. Much less bandwidth than a full movie.
Or you can make them so affordable that it's not worth the time to pirate.
I'm curious, what known germ/virus can survive a soldering iron?
You seem to be saying
Why didn't you just go to the bookstore and get a book on SQL server?
So...you predict that things will change?
Man! Quit your day job and start your own business as a Prophet!
Go! The world needs someone of your great talents too much for you to be slaving away in front of a computer!
Yeah, but that was Everquest. They stuck cleavage on everything that moved to distract you from the horrible graphics.

IBM has been giving pay cuts.
I've heard that the only way to get a raise in this day and age is to leave your job for another one.
100 Megabytes???
You can get a Gig of memory now for 80 bucks man. Tell your boss to splurge a little.

I think it's each pair. So if one dies, the other can drive the fan.
And until we get more info, it's pretty much impossible to know how much fuel the thing uses. (shrug)
Why would you have to hop them up? If anything, since you have redundant engines, you can reduce their power.

The Mazda engine is a compromise.
Or it can mean that the Movie Industry is exerting more influnce over reviewers and creating astroturf campaigns for their movies.
Did you read the blurb? 28 MPG.
Sheesh.
