The long term benefit of their company not being a serf to microsoft would greatly increase that stock price you seem to hold so dear. If they should recieve orders from their so called "partner" why dont they just fire the CEO? fire all the non-production management, obviously they can't make their own decisions and are a redundant component.

Databases are nothing new, the older forms are what we call "books". There is a reason medical students are required to do more than just memorize facts about the human body etc. They provide insight and experience in interpreting the facts/test results. I believe this could be a tool for them to use but very open to abuse. What if insurance companies and other type instituions opt for a cheaper alternative analysis simply because its plausable to reply on a computer?

I sure would. Tickets would be cheaper, or I would get to where I'm going faster. You might think its untested but its really not. They've been kicking this design around for a long long time (see future shuttle images). As for evacuation in a crash, think about what happens when a typical airliner today crashes, how it breaks apart at the wings dumping fuel all over to ignite. If i had to guess, as i am since i have no real data, this body style would be much much stronger. Stress would not be concentrated around the area where the wings meet the "tube" of the airframe, it would also lessen cyclic stress as the force is more distributed.

After becoming an employee of a "microsoft shop" in jan, I've used nothing but m$ and its products for 99% of my development tools(officexp/winxp pro/messenger/vis studio etc) and day to day work.

So I took a chance on the posting yesterday and decided to give Mozilla a whirl. First impression wasn't that great due to the cheese splash screen on launch(which I replaced, and it actually listened to me!). However it didn't take long for me to be converted after that.

Right off the bat, I turned off 90% of pop up adds, imported my IE fav's and even gave it a new look using the themes. i was and still am truely impressed by Mozilla. I can search my bookmarks, a huge deal for me. I can tell Mozilla how to behave...and it seems to actually listen!
After realising how much I liked this new browser I suddenly became very aware of how far the 'net in general has gone down hill since IE's dominace. I realized how my work got further and further away from stds, focused on M$ and how they wanted things done. Most of all I was dissapointed how I had forgotten just how good the net as a whole used to be.
Either way, if the Moz. dev team is listening, thank you. I can once again surf in peace.

  24. a tale of 2 games on Mods: "Lifeblood of Gaming Industry"? · · Score: 2, Insightful

2 games series, mechwarrior & quake.

Back in the days of 1996 you had two large communities. Quake and Mechwarrior. There were leagues for both, there were active online players of both.

One you could expand (Quake) and one you couldn't (Mechwarrior)

Quake community grew and grew and as the game changed and became more advanced so did those doing the mods, maps, and skins. They spawned Weapons Factory, Rocket Areana, Ubran Terror.. countless maps, and even more numerous skins. The code was open, the architectire was open(.pk3).We got statistical tracking, we got cross referencing those stats. Other game developers caught on and we got RTCW, MOH, DoD, and the one i'm hooked on..Kedi Knight 2: Outcast. Open game, active community.

Now take a look at the Mech community, that was around at the same time. Everyone was in a clan, a huge percent of players were involved in leagues. The game wasn't open but the mechs were(a text file). That spawned mech editors, NAIS(mercs), cheat detectors, and mech organizers( i have 500 varients). That was it tho..untill Microsoft stepped in. Mechwarrior today has had all the "sim" like features stripped out of it, skins are difficult to make(they provide no blanks). There are 0 mods, there are 0 apps, it keeps log files in some non standard format...but uploads stats IN BINARY! to microsoft tracking servers(hacking would be against DCMA).

so 2 genres, 2 communities starting at about the same time. Its pretty easy to see that its not "if you build it they will come" but rather "IF YOU LET THEM build it THEMSELVES, they'll come running!"
