I'm not going to stand up for what's happenning at Gitmo--I'm as opposed to it as you seem to be. However, I can't allow the suggestion that what is happening in Cuba somehow makes the US worse than China to go unchallenged.
Yes it's a bit of hyperbole, but...Ever heard of something called hypocricy, or irony. When our 'president' talks about Freedom{tm} in his Inagural speach, and yet it's obvious to those around the world looking at things like Gitmo that Freedom{tm} isn't total for this country, you've got to wonder. Yes, Mao did some dispicable things, but, that dones't excues us from actually following our retoric.
We talk about freedom and democracy, but, if we can't show that we follow it in our everyday life then we're just blowing hot air. This is why the world laughs at us. We talk of freedom, but, count China, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Russia, etc. among our 'friends' how is that embracing freedom?
Actually, I did. The game was pretty rough all around. And, down two-nil the Costa Ricans seem to be giving a lot more than they were getting--teams behind tend to get a little frantic (and the Latin Americans seem to bet the better actors too--though it was tough to see who was being fouled or who was diving to get a foul.) Also, remember, the rules state that it's up to the ref's discression to call--he really only has to keep the clock and keep track of who put it out of bounds; Calling Fouls. And, I was watching on Telemundo, where the announcers sounded very pro-hispanic and were also dismissive of the refs (don't know much Spanish, but, it seemed apparent from their tone.)
I must say I was impressed with the Iraqis. They passed well and played as a team, unlike the Costa Ricans who seemed to try and feed it to their best players and see if they can dribble past the other team. They also had a very loud and supportive crowd to watch (the Costa Ricans were getting booed every time the touched the ball.) I also watched Ghana beat Paraguay--a like the US and Serbia & Montenagran being beat in Basketball it's fun to watch the big boys get their comeuppance. But, like the outrage of the Americans, South Koreans doing well in the World Cup, the 'powers-that-be' are not happy--but more fun for us viwers. (My Mom always found the Olympics that were boycotted by the US or Soviets fun because it gave a chance for the others to win something.)
ATi's had this display (the IBM version) hidden in their booth at the last two MacWorlds. They were running it off a single card, since to run full resolution you could have the screamin' refresh rate of 10Hz. At the full resolution, the mouse pointer is very difficult to find, around 1/8" wide (too lazy to do the math.)
Definitly for x-rays and things that require a high dpi display for critical applications.

Except this means that people are buying a regual TV and thinking they have an HDTV, thus, the stats to the manufacturers show that not many HDTVs are being sold, thus they can continue to charge high prices to make up for fewer units sold.
Now, the article only hinted at 10% who actually had an HDTV. But, another probelm are those people who have an HD-capable monitor/TV and are only watching DVDs, and/or SD digital cable/DirecTV on them and they think they're watching HDTV--NO YOU'RE NOT! Unless the signal broadcast is at an HD resolution (**cough** Fox widescreen), into a monitor/TV capable of displaying a full HD resolution (a 42" plasma most of which are only 850x480 resolution (aka EDTV) doesn't count), then, you are watching HDTV.
But, since the broadcasters/content providers seem to abhore new technology, don't look for anything to change (see. Broadcast Flag, PVRs w/o Firewire, etc.)
Well, any display with a DVI/:HDCP (as developed by Intel), or HDMI connection, or IEEE 1394 (Firewire/iLink) with 5C.
Mitsubishi have Firewire, most new displays have DVI w/HDCP, and the DVD players that upconvert to HD resolutions are only output over their HDCP enabled DVI ports!
Granted, at present HDCP is rather kludgy, have read articles on problems connecting with the latest boxes and displays. Not to mention the test channel on DirecTV that doesn't always work.
Also, 5C works, since you can't record a D-Theater movie (warning flash), to a computer with a firewire port, or use the VGA connector from the Samsung SIR-T165 firewire STB when playing a tape. Oh, you say that's not fair use, but, it's just a glorified VHS tape, so how robust is that? Are you not allowed to make a backup of your flimsy tape?
And, in the last year or so one of the cable companies in New York "accidentily" enabled 5C copy-never on their cable boxes.
DRM for HD is just getting started. Can't wait for the Broadcast Flag.
But, back to the article, hopefully Intel can get better yeilds since Hitachi and Mitsubishi have pulled their sets (ahh, can't find any links.)

DRM for HD is alive and well.
Finder: Maximize button now often toggles a window between 3 (three!) sizes (I haven't found out what is needed to start this behaviour), and often times, none of them fit the files "just right": They are all either too big or too small (I'm not joking!)
I also noticed this "back to annoying Windowz" 'feature' that just showed up, what's happening!!!
Actually they do. Ironically, CBS in the SF Bay Area (an O&O, owned & operated by the parent CBS company) has refused to let the local Comcast [Digital] Cable rebroadcast their HD signal because they don't like the compression that is put onto their HD signal. The signal the cable companies get is a direct feed from the station itself (like the one that goes to the tower.) They still appear to be in talks as I haven't heard any real answer as to when it'll be on cable, other than "they're still in negotiations."
Though you do realize it does have to be compressed. (e.g. 100+ mbs from the HD camera->45mbs from the main studios->19.3mbs to the tower in your area->whatever your Cable or Sat company can get away with.)
You would think that that the nework that has the hottest show (in HD), CSI, would want everybody to see it in it's full glory, but, I guess instant gratification trumps long term ejoyment.
But, if you look through the Florida law on election results you will find that an "overvote" is perfectly valid (aka "Will Of The People.")
That's why all the Media reports said that Gore didn't win, because if you only look at the 'controversial' counties, and you don't follow Florida election law for overvotes he wouldn't get enough votes to win.
'Every scenereo' is counting the overvotes, which is the law. The Florida Election
Just think what would happen without a paper trail to give a real account.
Um, and the fact a recent study showed that NPR tends to give the Palestinians a larger voice than the Israeli, means the're pro-zionist? If you look hard enough you'll find something like disinfo.com. The real trick is to find the author's bias and then read with that in mind.
Wow, finally I can put all that 'egg drop' expertise from childhood to good use.

What about the LG PVR?

Or the Gefen ADC KVMs, that even include cables for your computers.
Actuall there are very accurate coverage maps, the providers just don't want you to see them.
