You guys laugh about this, but seriously it happened. I'm a fairly big Beatles fan, but although owning a great deal of their CDs, I had never ventured into their individual solo careers looking for music.
Until I saw a porno where this guy "picked up" this chick in a grocery store, with John Lennon's 'Imagine' playing in the background.
'Hey, he made some good music after the Beeatles didn't he?' Since then I've downloaded several Lennon solo songs (I recommend "Look At Me" "Hold On" "Cold Turkey" "Nobody Loves You (When You're Down and Out)"), and have since purchased his _Plastic Ono Band_ album, _Walls and Brigdes_, and tommorrow I'm probably going to down to the record shop to get _Imagine_.
So no joke, I seriously got into John Lennon through watching a porno movie I downloaded off of Kazaa. I love the internet...
It my not be cheating but as a costumer you certainly feel cheated. $10 for what? I doubt his time is that expensive, and I don't doubt that he has either other business to attend to on the same trip out, or that he has other packages he needs to send.
The best way to do it is to figure out how much it will cost to send BEFORE hand, and be as upfront as possible with your buyer. I was selling some GeForce 3 Ti200's a year ago and I listed all the prices as they were, albeit rounded up to the nearest dollar for convenience's sake. Call the post office and ask how much it'll cost to send, ask about insurance if you're sending expensive, possibly fragile items, etc. And then on your auction give them all the options, would you like insurance? how quickly do you want it to arrive, etc.
This does not take as much work as it sounds like (christ, I'm sure USPS/UPS/FedEx have this information on their webpage if you can sift through it all), AND it leaves the buyer feeling satisfied that you actually give a rat's ass about them, with very little extra work involved.
:| That link has been appened to how many video game-related stories to get a +5 funny rating? I wish slashdot would have a feature where I could modify the score of any comment linking to that article.:P
Why is it appending the phrase, "I've got to karma to burn," to any flamebait/troll/offtopic comment not only makes it near impervious (emphasis on near) to being modded down, and in fact usually makes it more likely to be modded up?
I don't mean to rant, but it's ok I've got karma to burn.
So if WMDs are the issue why aren't we invading North Korea post haste? North Korea with a long, sordid history of selling all kinds of arms to anyone willing to buy? North Korea who is currently trying to restart their nuclear program?
Could you give me more information about this, or a link or something (or both)? I'd like to learn some more. Why would they flash one frame two or three times when they could flash one frame once for the time it would take two or three frames to flash? I guess I don't have a firm grasp on this because I imagine that would give the same effect (apparently not tho').
but! Yhis isn't too unreasonable. This is obviously the 'Megaton' rumour, the two biggest ones floating around were the "Nintendo buys Campcom/Sega/Namco/whoever so they make games exclusively on the 'Cube", the other being "Nintendo gets shitloads of money from Sony for the PlayStation trademark." When people started talking about the idea of a new gameboy it was thrown out more or less because no one could imagine that Nintendo wanted to piss off all of their customers, but I don't think this is so bad. The only real advantage this thing has is size, the rechargable battery and backlight. If you were going to be a vanilla GBA and then all the accessories needed to match the specs of the GBA "SP" it would run you well over the GBA SP pricetag of $100. And hell, if you don't want it, it's not like it plays any games you can't play on your old GBA.
The only thing I'm worried about is the size, I mean, maybe they took the problems people had with the GBA into consideration when they made this one and there's some nifty ergonomics that make it fit perfectly, but it's like they don't realize Americans have bigger hands. I know Nintendo makes a killing in Japan with every system, especially recently with consoles: N64 sales in Japan is what kept them afloat-- scratcth that, not entirely true, I'm pretty sure they have large enough cash reserves to weather a bad console launch, no link tho' cause I'm lazy, let's say it kept them profitable. Same with the GameCube, it may not be doing well in the States, but it sells very well in Japan.
Does the same hold true for GBA sales as well? Is the US that big a market for Nintendo or do not even need to please us to make a tidy profit? I supposed this is all a crazy rant until we get to play with it, it just looks kinda cramped. I can't wait until my local $elecStore has this out for people to play with,
You've got to understand something about Minnesota, most people get snowed in the better half of the year. Actors can't act if they can't make it out their house. Between the above, and factoring in car stalls from the cold winters and the occasional polar bear attack, it's no wonder it took so long to finish...
ok, ok... so I exaggerated... a little.. (it's actually been quite balmy in MN as of late, thank you global warming!)
I've recently activated the space.com slashbox and I recommend you do too. I like the stories there (tho' i refused to go there back in my pre-phoenix days due to there liberal use of pop-ups), but they don't post news very frequently. I was wondering if some slashdotter knew of a better site that offered a more comprehensive look at all news related to astronomy/spaceflight/etc.?
I wonder how well the geek-virgin stereotype holds up to the myth, or if it just gets thrown around because we like to poke fun at ourselves. I'd like to see this slashdot poll:
Are you a virgin?
Yes
No
I'm keeping my virginty for Cowboy Neal you insensitve cold!
I was confused what everyone meant when they were talking about the 'Megaton' rumor from Nintendo, but here's a link that 'rounds up' the 'Megaton' rumors that has everyone abuzz. Basically there are two, the Playstation trademark thingey, and that Nintendo is planning on buying Sega and Capcom (hadn't heard about Sega) so produce games exlusively for the cube. I'm as skeptical as the writers of the above-linked article:
Yes, people actually believe this. Presumably they also expect the megaton announcement itself to be made by Shigeru Miyamoto on the back of a flying pig...
Jeez, I'd like to know where exactly you live that you've had to defend yourself three times with a firearm. Unless of course these happened in different places. As an aside, I've been on the fence for awhile regarding gun control etc. Between being 'raised' liberal and my dad owning firearms I never formed opinions on guns/gun control. I look forward to reading some of the books that have been referenced here.
ok, whoever modded that down as 'off-topic' didn't even follow the link. I had a good laugh after reading the parent, and if the mod had done something *drastic* like clicked through and checked it out before he modded this down... I guess I hold out too much hope for most of you.
Between your last comment:
3) [the Transmeta booth] Actually contained a chip they let you hold. 1 word: SMALL and your sig:
"It's not stealing if you don't get caught!"
I am hoping you've made the astro into some sort of necklace already?
It is official -- Netcraft is now confirming: *BSD trolls are dying. You don't need to be a Kreskin to predict *BSD trolls' future. The hand writing is on the wall: *BSD trolls face a bleak future. In fact there won't be any future at all for *BSD trolls because *BSD trolls are dying. Things are looking very bad for *BSD trolls. As many of us are already aware, *BSD trolls continues to lose market share. Red ink flows like a river of blood.
FreeBSD trolls are the most endangered of them all, having lost 93% of their core trollers. The sudden and unpleasant departures of long time FreeBSD trolls Jordan Hubbard and Mike Smith only serve to underscore the point more clearly. There can no longer be any doubt: FreeBSD trolls are dying.
Let's keep to the facts and look at the numbers.
OpenBSD leader Theo states that there are 7000 OpenBSD is dying trolls. How many NetBSD is dying trolls are there? Let's see. The number of OpenBSD versus NetBSD trolls on Usenet is roughly in ratio of 5 to 1. Therefore there are about 7000/5 = 1400 NetBSD trolls. *BSD is dying trolls on Usenet are about half of the volume of NetBSD posts. Therefore there are about 700 *BSD is dying trolls. A recent article put FreeBSD with an 80 percent marketshare of *BSD is dying trolls. Therefore there are (7000+1400+700)*4 = 36400 FreeBSD trolls. This is consistent with the number of *BSD is dying Usenet posts.
Due to the troubles of Walnut Creek; troll, flamebait, and offtopic mods; and so on, *BSD trolls went out of business and were taken over by goatse.cx, who peddle another troubled troll. Now The Receiver is also dead, its corpse turned over to yet another charnel house.
All major surveys show that *BSD trolls have steadily declined in market share. *BSD trolls are very sick and there long term survival prospects are very dim. If *BSD trolls are to survive at all it will be among troll dilettante dabblers. *BSD trolls continue to decay. Nothing short of a miracle could save them at this point in time. For all practical purposes, *BSD trolls are dead.
Why was Jesus an asshole? I'm a nontheist (atheist, agnostic, whatever you wanna call it) and that seems to be christianity's only saving grace. While I may not like what chrisitanity has become and what has been carried out in god's name over the centuries, I always thought Jesus was sort of a cool guy (if he was really a guy or just a myth, I dunno, I'm not exactly read up on this.) It seems (to me, perhaps incorrectly) that Jesus was a left-wing radical hippy guy. Is there a reason I should think Jesus was an asshole?
Whine, whine, whine. You sound like one of those holier than thou Counter-Strike players I always run into. "CS sucks so bad." There're easy solution to everything you just complained about:
1. STOP PLAYING PUBS!
2. Find a good server that challenges you and is well-admined (and not just that admins are on, but that they're willing to deal with cheaters). Get to know the admins and the regulars, etc. Playing the public servers all by yourself isn't fun at all, unless your planning on 'pwning some n00bs.'
3. Play with friends. Since you have a personal connection I know I can count on them to watch my back and work as a team.
I've played CS for over a year and a half on and off (Mostly on, I took a 3 month break over the summer), and it continues to be fun as long as I stick with a tried and true server and play with friends. If you're seriously sick of the gameplay, then fine, no ones forcing you to play it; but the argument that the community sucks and all the players are immature only stands up in almost every gaming community if you play random pubs.

EDoom Splash screen
First view in-game
Some sort of video config. screen (Dear god it runs in 320x200, what did doom originally run in?)
Alpha-blended onscreen keyboard for writing out save game files
This thing looks very slick, now if the claims about playability are true... I could talk myself into needing a new phone. :D

As compared to stupid moron posts by homophobes, which are somehow better?
If we're going by his figures we'd actually cut back by at least 25%, as 20% is one-fourth of 80%. Just nitpicking.:P

Shit man, if I was your manager I don't think I'd let you set up a honeypot anywhere near a demilitarized zone. You're just asking for trouble. :p
