I was joking you know. Sheesh. It could have been the worst joke ever, (although I doubt it) I can admit that, but you not realizing it was a joke and then intimating I got fleeced (which I didn't, since I haven't contributed) is hardly fair.
I just heard some sad news on talk radio - cyberpunk/fiction writer William Gibson was found dead in his Maine home this morning. There weren't any more details. I'm sure we'll all miss him - even if you didn't read his books you've probably enjoyed one of his movies. Truly an American icon.
I don't know...Enough hail, rain snow and sleet, and your won't be able to aim your precious nukes. Not to mention what happens when my storm causes a power outage. Plus, a nuke can be intercepted (well maybe not practically, but theoretically), what are you going to do shoot down my storm front?:)
Survival of the fittest is an observation, not a
criterium for living. If you are alive, you are surviving and therefore "fit", regardless of how you survive. Evolution doesn't have a goal...we aren't slowing down the creation of the ubermensch with welfare because evolution isn't leading us to the ubermensch in the first place.
One day in the distant future...if there are any other search engines, instead of having a Search button (or voice command, or telpathic whoosit) they will have a Google button (or voice commads, or telepathic whoosit).
Whoo. The post is being FBI suppressed yet modding it down is unamerican? shouldn't it be AMERICAN to mod it down? also repeating 100% is mad annoying yo. Maybe you're right, or maybe this is a brillant troll, (BRILLANT, STUNNING, AWE-INSPIRING TROLL) but 100% factual thing is still annoying. couldn't you say this post is at least 99.9% factual and being FBI suppressed? At least for a bit of variety.
Uh no, i didn't that was some other poster. I don't care whether NUL or/dev/null is equivalent, it just seemed to me that linking cookies.txt to/dev/null was kind of heavy handed, in any os.
Or someone with a bad command of the language can do a bad translation of it and no one catches him on it until latter. I use OSS but at least with commercial software MS is hiring professional translators. I'm not saying there aren't good or even pro translators out there translating for OSS, but that certainly doesn't mean all the translations are perfect, especially not because the software is OSS. Imagine if the OO.o translation had the norwegian equivalent of "all your base are belong to us" for example.
I'm a freshman here. I don't have quite as many entertaining stories, yet. Um I got one tho.
You have to take this course, CS1114 which is a basic intro to CompSci. If you take the AP Computer Science exam (and get a 4 or you might need a 5, i am not sure, I got a 5 (the highest)) you get credit for it and go move on to CS1124 w/o taking 1114. Here's the kicker: They'll give you credit for AP Computer Science A, but not AB. Guess which one I took? Yeah, AB the more "advanced" course. So I had to take 1114, and it was immensely boring. I know when kid who got them to place him into 24 anyway, but he doesn't have credit for 14.
Oh and as someone else already mentioned, the female population is practically non-existant.
Looks to be a "fun" four years.

Ok, obviously I haven't taken a critical thinking course in college (yet anyway) and I will admit I don't know what "sufficient but not necessary condition" means (but I plan to look it up).
My problem is that the argument rubs me the wrong way. It feels like the mental equivalent (although more subtle) of aiming a gun at a guys head and saying "say I'm great, or I'll blow your brains out". Now, its entirely possible that I am wrong, and frankly I didn't get into this because of the pacifist/non-pacifist issues. I just really don't like an argument that seems (to me) to have artificial limits on its response.
Now I hope I've proven to you that I can be reasonable. Obviously this dicussion isn't going anywhere and I think we should agree to disagree. Either that or argree to disagree and secretly think the other is a jerk;)
Well obviously microsofts monopoly won't last 10,000 years.
God, I hope not. I mean sheesh, Hitler only wanted 1000 years.
Microsoft, der Zehntausend Jahre Reich (sorry about the spelling, its been a while)
what xscreensaver-command -lock isn't good enough for ya? :)
And then he'll go back to watching a movie with the archos, or recording to it from his stereo...
RFC = Read, Forget, Change?
I got a bad feeling about this...

Clonaid is the secret to Immortality! I'll know gosh darnit! Either that or my $10 will pay off.
Does anyone else think this is more insightful than funny? No? Oh well.

Sorry, couldn't stop myself.

And Storm is so the must powerful :-P

OTOH, I don't like welfare. :)

Ah yes, some fantasy author points out something fairly obvious, and you repeat it on slashdot. Instant +5, Insightful.
You forgot one:
Instead of "Band-Aid" say adhesive bandage

The RIAA. I kinda think thats the whole point of this story.
There is a special place reserved in hell for people who feel the need to mod me up.

No really. Sodium is flamebait! Get it? hahaha. Ok, I'm sorry, I'll stop now.

Well whatever, but if you can't symlink cookies.txt , for example, to this windows null device, then it doesn't have equivalent functionality.
Uh, isn't that kind of a heavy handed method of blocking cookies? Doesn't that make more sense to do cookie blocking at the browser level?
