Good points, but for every one person who complains about the "jobs being taken", there is at least one person who is happy to have a competent person on their team.
At my last company, we ended up hiring someone on our team who was on an H1-B. Two people that I know of were complaining about that, whereas the rest of us were happy that we were getting someone who knew what they were doing.
It wasn't as if nobody else had been hired. I can understand the frustration in a tough job market, but if the other person is truly better than you, why DON'T they deserve your job? Just because they're from another country? That's not a legitimate excuse at all.
I realize you are making a joke, but to clarify, Harmony is not the music store.
Harmony refers to the technology which allowed Real Networks to convert their own DRM'd files into a compatible locked format that the iPods would play -- as well as the ability to transfer iTunes tracks to an iPod through the RealPlayer.
What gives Nintendo the right to censor the mere mention of something? They weren't discussing any secrets of IP or using the namesakes or images illegally... their member simply named two games as their favorite.
How is it even conceivable that they should be allowed to do this??
Note that many of these articles, while mentioned here on Slashdot, also have links to "other" news outlets, such as Gamespot, CNN, etc.
In addition, games like GTA 3 have gotten a lot of press lately, even in the mainstream media. Don't you think you're being short sighted to imply that games no longer have an effect on mainstream culture?
BJ Shea (http://www.1007thebuzz.com) is a fairly well-known DJ in Seattle, somewhat along the lines of Tom Leykis.
His show today covered the Stern jump to Satellite and why it is actually, in fact, a bad thing. As was pointed out, this is just another form of censorship. The Janet Jackson thing, now Howard Stern...
Even though all of George Carlin's 7 dirty words are all NOT against community standards, the FCC & Dubya's cronies want to make it seem that it is. If this continues to happen, the only place we will be able to look for people who actually tell it like it is are places like HBO & satellite radio. Why should we have to pay for things we have been getting for free in the past?
I paid an ungodly sum for two Orchestra seats, not once but twice, during the recent "revival" of the Nathan Lane/Matthew Broadrick casting, once to bring my mother and once a lady friend.
[I still can't imagine that web designers don't design for all modern browsers. We have a large and sophisticated application costing millions, and I have to say that it cost about $100 to make sure that we could support just about everyone]
You obviously have no QA or Development experience, do you? Maybe in your area coding for "all modern browsers" is trivial, but in many areas it is not. The changes just between versions of IE 4, 5, and 6 are fairly large from a design point of view. If you're throwing in Mozilla, Firefox, etc support, that adds a lot.
If you have a QA division that is responsible for making sure that all browsers "work properly" that requires testing on all the different browsers. Did I mention each set of browsers may need to be tested on multiple OSes as well?
Just because it only costs YOU $100 to do something that you say is trivial, does not mean that is anywhere near the case for others.
While I do support the idea and agree Lucas has bastardized what used to be classics, if you RTFA, you'd see that when asked if he cares or is affected by critics of his choices, he said no.
So the petition is likely going to fall on completely deaf ears.
Great recommendation... I picked up Tales of Symphonia based on your suggestion and all the reviews/screenshots on ebgames.com
Hope it's as good as ya say.
If you like anime, or liked the original movie. Go buy this on dvd. Now. Its simply the most remarkable anime I have seen in more then 5 years (and ive been doing this for more then a decade)
Doing what? If you're going to recommend something based on expertise in some realm, it may help to tell us what your qualifications are...
People often comment (and occasionally criticize) how I type, because it is definitely not standard.
I learned to type, many years ago, while playing a text MMORPG (Gemstone3 in the GEnie/AOL days, if that means anything to ya). As I was not properly taught, it looks like "hunt and pecking"... until you notice the fact I am exceedingly accurate and quick. I average ~90 wpm if I am ignoring occasional errors. It drops to around 80 - 85 wpm if I'm correcting things.
I have had coworkers suggest I "take a class to learn how to type"...but why should I bother? Sure, it's not orthodox, but it works for me. I don't have to look at the keyboard or anything. It just doesn't look like it is the correct way to type. If it's better, why should I change?

yes, but we are the advertisers' customers.
Doctor Zaurus, Doctor Zaurus? ;-)
You must be new here... ;-)
MudConnector :)
Thousands of MUDs.
And for a good MUD/Telnet client for gaming, I suggest zMUD
Are we even talking about IP, here?

Actually, in your attempt to simply be a rude troll, you proved yourself wrong.
A few links to illustrate that what happens in a game, or can be caused by a game, can actually touch the real world:
Everquest Widows unite
City of Heroes players honor Christopher Reeve

:P
So your mother isn't a lady?
$50 says that will be in the movie. Sure, only the fanboy "geeks" will get it, but that's part of the humor that Brooks enjoys doing.
Including numerous threats to the UN?

All that work describing how great they are, yet you don't provide a link to the torrent? ...
Or Alien versus Predator.
Either way, the viewers get screwed.
Wait a minute..... ewwwww.

So you didn't like my costume? :(
I, for one, blame the rain for this. Errr... ;)
I use 3-4 and got 96 wpm. Woo, I'm a freak! :-p

Already been done. Linkage here.
Silly guy... Hawaii isn't in Canada or France! :-P
No... more like someplace girls dread. ;)
