I just installed Sims II and did this because some friend told me to do it.. I found it rather funny lol.. Until everyone in the lab started looking at me weird like I had problems..:S
Note also I expect they arn't going into much detail about how many boxes of each were in testing. I know companies who still use Windows NT 4.0 Server (thus, maybe 10-20 boxes in all per company).. Just one example.
One does need to wonder under what conditions those computers were in. My Windows XP boxes hardly ever crash, and if so usually its a hardware failure (Video card overheats, processor overheats [welcome to Florida!]). All the computers we have at the college run Windows XP, specially tweaked to keep students doing school work [not dorm boxes] and will clean themselves up when they are rebooted.. these boxes too usually never fail unless its hardware, and operate all day with many different users per day. I also wonder, since my views are somewhat cleaned by our nice IT folks at the college, what these computers they monitored were like. Was there ad-ware on a few? A few viruses maybe? It happens, and IT can't always be there to fix those problems.
My point simply is usually its not Windows XP faulting for me, its something else not getting along with it. Be it [insert]ware, or hardware issues. Good example is I hardly ever reboot this computer, it has easily gained weeks of uptime, usually only shutting down due to thunderstorms taking out the electrical lines.

I aswell was born with eye problems. Young my eye decided to curve inward, causing me to use my left eye over my right eye. Even with surgery and the attempt to teach my brain to use my right eye over the left one a bit, it in the end failed. I have 20/20 in that eye, and 20/15 in my left eye. It really does suck to lack depth perception (or should I say, lack the ability to percieve depth like a normal-eyed person). Maybe it is why I like computers, since it doesn't take much depth to use a 2d interface..
Anyone know if there is a way we can teach our brains how to do it properly? My brain does use my right eye slightly, as if i'm tracking something without looking at it, my brain switches to the other eye when it moves out of my left eyes view without a hitch. There must be something.. any links?
Venturing into a hot tub with contacts can cause cornea ulcers that leads to blindness.
This is slashdot.
With that said, I have a friend who wears contacts. What is sad is everytime she goes to the doctor, they keep upping the power of them.. I believe constant use of implements to see better will continue to weaken your vision..
On topic, the idea of letting some guy take a laser and etch into your eye reminds me of a good reason why there are warning labels on pointing lasers.
What will this do to CRT monitors? Last i heard they create special modes for each side of the equator, due to magnetic differences.. If i have a north poll right next to me, whats that going to do to my monitors?
I have an OLED display on the back of my cellphone. They have the text on it (uncontrollably) revolve/scroll across the screen because if it stays in one place too long, its rumoured to burn..:\ I feel it to just be a waste of battery.. I would far rathered a colour LCD screen that can turn its backlight off, but still see it in the sun.
never know, they could just be running X with a big terminal open.. no GUI:) Honestly the only things I ever use X for is web/multiple terminals on one screen.. everything else is usually text based.. I'm far faster with commands then I am with GUI's.
Well, i just got a contract for Verizon recently and I must say, even if they gave out their numbers I'm not really sure if the spammers could ever get a call to me without it getting dropped... The phones they have just don't do it for me, I wish Verizon had some of the sprint phones.. specifically picture phones. They don't have great quality but i'm not trying to document a exploration, i'm trying to take a quick snap of something or someone.
Drop these cans over the moutains, so when they are thirsty (wouldn't you be in the desert?!) they'll go to open it to realize they pressed the button! Which will then report em!
The cultures (even Americans have a culture) is different. I'm American but at times I can stand back with the rest of the world and look at how stupid some are -- but then I remember every country has its idiots. Back onto topic:
I loved computers. I loved them so much that I spent most of my middle school days helping the Novell Administrator keep the network running smoothly (I was like, 12, and all this was DOS still). I was so taunted, that I would hide in places so I wouldn't be chased down. I had bones broken, quite literally, because I rathered the computers over the idiots. I had a few ribs broke from being tripped for a laugh (landed on the corner of the desk, really fucked me up that day). I was jumped when walking to Gym. I was a VERY small kid.
Now I see those people.. working at Burger King.. most don't remember me, but believe me, I remember them. I do sometimes gloat to myself.. at how even if they go out and get shit faced all the time, I still will be far more sucessful then they will ever be.
And the dream of shooting an RPG into their face still happens sometimes too:)
They wont wipe.. I mean how could they? If eric@gmail.com has used his address for anything confidential and is erased, eric-else comes and register eric@gmail.com and gets this guys personal information.. Yeah, you shouldn't use something thats for testing for anything important, but no less..
I had a dealing with Homier. They came through town and was offering a door, a specific door, that normally would sell for.. at least $500.. and was only $100. We stood in line, assured we had a door to find out the guy in front of us changed his mind and talked them into selling him two -- his door and ours. Then when we spoke up they told us we could basically fuck off.
Their prices were really crazy cheap, but a few things I bought broke later on (but doesn't most things today).. and that was only a month ago.
I just don't like the fact that either I pay them loads to run their server version on my server or run a version that I feel is more a desktop version of linux.
I'm not sure which web you're browsing but my data use browsing web alone can exceed 75mb a day easily.

Never have a process go so down hill that you couldn't login to the box to kill it?

No doubt you haven't read the article. The RF problems run up the line aswell, still causing disruptive static..

Missles?
Note yeah, it'll be alittle slow to grab.. but thats because that box is on a DSL line.

Maybe its just the excuse I was looking for to leave RedHat? :)
