One of the key factors keeping these indie-shop games in the $10-$30 is their delivery method: downloads. Much of the cost of an off-the-shelf video game comes from retail markups and distributor mark-ups.
What amazes me is that many large publishers don't seem to want to try and end-run existing distribution channels and sell direct to customers. It may be that they fear reprisal from traditional distributors.
That was originally Craig McCracken's production. Tartakovsky did some work on it as well, but you know that by now.
If you go back and watch the old Space Ghost Coast to Coast ep/special where they rolled out three debuts on their What A Cartoon show, they do a mock-up of a pageant where the producers of each short vies for a regular spot in the Cartoon Network lineup.
They aired the original pilot with Fuzzy Lumpkin, his meat gravy, and his meat ray. Funny how that show was never aimed at young girls early on.
"Crappy" and "Low resolution" are in the eye of the beholder. It's better than nothing at all.
Besides, the mere thought of seeing mankind's first moonwalk and a video about some foul-mouthed kid cussing up a storm on Xbox Live at his mother from whom he demands a glass of chocolate milk makes me giddy with anticipation! Or um, something.
I can't wait to start getting helpful unsolicited emails informing me that someone's attempted to use my SpaceX account that I don't even have to purchase tickets to Mars.
Then maybe, just maybe, fish farmers aren't doing it right. Sustainable fish farms will need practices far different from the ones you describe. They will need to operate without harming wild populations(or at least while causing minimal damage to wild fish populations), and they will need to be sustainable even in the event that wild populations of fish are driven to extinction.
Now would be a good time to learn to live without seafood. Granted, this isn't an option in nations where fish is a common staple in everyone's diet . . .
Fisherman can either stop fishing now or stop later when there are none left to catch. Fish farms or bust.
DDR3 is the future, and some were speculating that AMD would leapfrog DDR2 completely and go straight to DDR3. Apparently, DDR3 supplies, availability, and prices aren't yet in the range for AMD to push it as their supported memory type in desktops.
DDR2 has some drawbacks that make it less attractive for AMD platforms than even DDR. However, it should be noted that AMD has recently announced that socket AM2 will launch at DDR2-800 speeds rather than the initially-planned speed of DDR2-667. This increase in memory clock should negate most of the latency concerns surrounding DDR2 vs DDR. Should.
Indeed. Socket AM2 will be a 940-pin socket like Socket 940, but the pin alignments are different, so the CPUs will not be interchangable between the older Socket 940 and the new AM2. I believe AMD went to the trouble of giving AM2 a non-numerial name to prevent confusion over the two sockets.
I've heard that FB-DIMMs run hot and need to be actively cooled. This is not something you want on desktops. I believe Socket F will be supporting FB-DIMMS though, at some point.
People like to throw around the word "classic" whenever fits of nostalgia are induced. My guess is that Zonk enjoyed the game and naturally assumes that everyone else did(or should have) as well. I liked both Earthworm Jim games, but in reality, few video games can truly earn the title of "classic", such as Pac-Man, Doom, etc.
On the plus side, Earthworm Jim's cartoon was better than the Pac-Man cartoon.
Unlike SNES Mortal Kombat, the number of people who actually bought and played BMX XXX was tiny. The game was terrible. Why didn't you mention Conker's Bad Fur Day instead? That was one of the most notorious raunchy Nintendo game in recent memory. BMX XXX was a pile of garbage.
I was thinking the same thing. The advancement of copy protection only makes it harder for honest citizens to use the products that they buy. Piracy, at times, gives you a superior product. It seems that someone has forgotten the old DivX fiasco(well, sort of).
Due to problems with the shuttle and extreme caution involved with current and future shuttle projects, the cost of running the space shuttle program has jumped. They had to get the money from somewhere within the NASA budget. Grabbing more from Congress isn't going to happen when you've got an $8 trillion budget deficit and cost overruns left and right. Congress has no fiscal discipline, and this is the result.
They key point you've made here is that, for most of us, the most important thing we have in our lives are our families of the present and future. Building and sustaining one's family is important enough that it's worth any number of jobs with any number of hours per week. It seems to me that the author is so obsessed with liking or disliking work that he is forgetting the factor of family altogether.
For my part, I work to support my family and to prevent myself from becoming a burden upon society. Hopefully, in the process, I'll do something useful, earn some good money, and maybe even occasionally enjoy what I do. But, enjoying what I do comes far down the list.
Agreed. There are many tasks that only the truly unimaginative and/or mentally retarded can find substantively interesting from one day to the next. Most of us can, at best, tolerate such work, and yet it must still be done.
In fact, that describes my job to a T. At least I'm doing something useful.
That's an awfully simplistic way of looking at things. Congress has actually manged to run up the deficit on many many programs not related to "the war on terror". Remember the farm bill, No Child Left Behind, and the massive increases in Medicaid spending we've had since Bush took office. Spending is up across the board, and social programs still take up the lion's share of spending in Washington.
I want to start collecting some RFID tags and implant them in my skin so that when the gub'ment starts running scans on people, I'll show up on the scanner as a pallet of 300 rubber chickens, a cow in heat, an Xbox 360, some dog named Muffin that's been missing for 2 years(and counting), and any number of other inane things.
I sort of agree that Motoko's character is . . . eh, material for slobbering fanboys. The other characters are pretty cool though, and I wound up liking Motoko more in 2nd Gig. Togusa and Batou are both great characters.
The final episode of Stand Alone Complex: Second Gig features a cameo of the "next generation" spider tanks, which I think were called Ochikomas. Sadly, the Ochikomas showed no real signs of personality, but it was just a cameo.

Damn phishers.

An interesting idea, yes, but wouldn't that get a little expensive? Lawsuits aren't cheap.

It's cool because anything is possible at Zombo.com! Duh.

Eh? What does this have to do with religion?

Agreed, grandparent post is not flamebait.
Agreed. They are rather offensive, but somehow amusing . . . I wish they'd post more often and maybe get away from template-based posts.

Agreed, Disney has already been milking Toy Story and the Buzz Lightyear franchise shamelessly. Ditto for Bug's Life.
