I contract for a branch of the military and they have a policy NOT to keep emails after a certain period of time.
Why? The Freedom of Information Act. People are always filing them (damn you! Damn your FOIA rights!) and they use that time limit as more of a defense for themselves because in the words of legal, sometimes you don't want this stuff coming up.
Regarding Open Source: There's nothing to stop Microsoft from putting out Microsoft Linux is there?
I don't like Microsoft but they will stop being hated so much when they transition themselves from a company that expects to create standards to one that merely contributes to them.
IBM learned that lesson and geeks love them now but they were the Microsoft of their day.
As long as MySQL stays MySQL who cares? Maybe Microsoft will FINALLY have a true understanding of what open source is now. (Probably not though...)
Here's a great example....
I call you on the phone and you can hear me fine, we have a nice discussion. It's standard phone service, works great.
Next time I call you all you hear is me speaking gibberish. I am talking just fine but an intermediary has "embraced and extended" something that already works fine.
Then you hear the Microsoft rep on the line who says we have a decoder for this and it only costs $200 and breaks only 35% of the time
Sure there's a standard there, that's what Microsoft says but it worked already before they screwed with it.
You signed some sort of subscriber agreement for your service and it probably gives them power to prohibit you from doing anything they don't want you doing
at least the names are staying the same.
there are places in the world... well ok france,..where they have renamed words in an attempt to stop encroachment of english into their language. like referring to email as 'courrier electronique'.
my own lack of capitalization today is a tribute to ee cummings however.
"not getting it". I know they have pie in the sky hopes to take on Google and bless their hearts
they're gonna spend a lot of money but it's going to be largely futile.
I like Google precisely because I don't get a bias. I also don't get bombarded
by ad after ad after ad (or popup after popup after popup ala Hotmail).
In many regards comparing Google search to MSN search and Google news to
MSs newsbot is apples and oranges. In order for MS to unseat Google they have to
be (MS execs read this carefully) BETTER. Until then... well... good luck
phones will be phased out completely, to be replaced by web addresses
That might seem a little overly ambitious, but phone service itself for sure
will probably go to something all digital.
I use Vonage right now and would never switch back. POTS is a last great holdout on
the analog to digital conversion.
Of course there are still a good many other poor countries who have such a dated infrastructure
that will insure that POTS sticks around a while.
Now let's all sing with Darl (while reading the SCO finances)... "I can't get a long little dogey, I can't even get one that's small, I can't get a long little dogey, I can't get a dogey at all". (Profuse apologies to Yosemite Sam)
the painful lesson that they will have to transform from a company that create standards to being one that contributes to them.
They honestly believe that having tons of cash will buy them anything but open standards and architecture eventually win out. They always have, they always will. They are just throwing up their arms in exaperation because they just don't get it. They will,..soon enough

Given who they are, you'll understand.

beowulf cluster of chimps could do.
Water is wet.
Like Coke machines? Same vulnerability? Of course your pen barrel would need to be MUCH bigger
Feel free to shoot full of holes as needed....
Every website has DNS servers so what if that same company that ran the DNS servers indexed the pages of the sites that it hosted? Daily?
Wouldn't that then provide a complete index of the web?
Start a search and somehow get the results back through that distributed method. Haven't figure that out yet...... but if you can...
PROFIT!!!!!
"How to permanently keep your recorded data"
and that doesn't inspire confidence either. It probably isn't reaching too far to say that SCO ain't long for this world.

I have XM and I didn't sign anything.

Pay attention to the Forward Looking Statement..
"the availability of competitive products or services such as the Linux operating system at prices below our prices or for no charge; "
We can now infect *nix as easily as M$ ? WOW! Thank God our long nightmare of safety and security is over.
OK, Mod me down now...
for Jello...
I am waiting to register high.iq.

Hans...or is it Franz?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........
Stop inflicting this pain on your fellow Americans by keeping this Bozo in power.
First the DMCA and now this....
Sheesh
Uh .. no
Yosemite Darl is the meanest, toughest, rootin-est,tootin-est cowboy there ever was and you should be ashamed of yourself for rustlin' away his code, pardner. Why its getting so a man can't earn a dishonest livin no more.

you should be rejoicing in situation where SCO gets royally fucked. Feel free to mod me down now.
is be suspicious of centralized power, especially the US government.
As far as being nutty people, I'll take advocacy for open source wherever I can get it thank you.
