They did on Apple when they injected the $100 million+ to save them. Best anti-trust insurance (for the time) they could've bought, plus they kept a market alive.

It seems that the one thing that is totally damaging to them is that they have legally been labeled a "monopoly". Any lawsuits from now on that alleges damages because of their monopolist practices already have a big leg up.

M$ will settle when they HAVE too. Bet that didn't feel too good going down in Redmond though.

  3. Cel Tweening.... on Disney Switches To Linux For Animation · · Score: 2, Interesting

It's ok but didn't Disney shift away from hand drawn animation a LONG time ago?

Michael Eisner said that he wanted to see Disney put out one animated feature a year and thanks to computers you can.

Disney had fine quality animation in the past because it was all hand drawn but computers can "tween" (generate cels between key frames) thus allowing Disney to continue to put out their crappy versions of popular stories every year now.

  4. Re:If this happens in america...... on Complete Net Cafe Shutdown After Beijing Fire · · Score: 1

"Wouldn't you think the parents will all be in an outrage to close all these unsafe places down?"

Sure there would be outrage, but closing them all wouldn't happen because America is the culture of "me" and people here don't like being told what they can and cannot do. (Or take responsibility for their actions which is why there are more lawyers than doctors but that's another story).

A kneejerk reaction to just close them all down wouldn't happen but adopting regulations to license internet cafes would probably happen though.

And also in America, they wouldn't reopen until the RIAA/MPAA had a chance to claim that CD burners started the fire or some other dumb shit.

So far NSA's advocacy has been used to let me get away with all kinds of open source implementation. The MITRE report was even sponsored by the Army. I haven't even exploited that angle yet.

  18. Open Source and the depression of MS stock.. on What's the Business Case for Microsoft and Open Source? · · Score: 1

Microsoft has had more than 25 splits in it's stock since it's inception. This kind of growth you get from almost no competition.

Open Source has managed to put an end to the Microsoft unimpeded rampage outfitting corporate America.

The only words for Microsoft are,..
    1. Embrace Open source somehow and accept it because you can't kill it. You've tried, it doesn't work.
    2. Talk to IBM and learn how to transition into a company that make valuable contributions to computing but no longer sets standards. That is where MS is headed.

    the catheters : endless avenues
    radio 4 : certain tragedy
    prodigy : baby's got a temper
You see their whole playlist here. They're spinning the new Elvis Costello, Doves, Bad Religion. I got turned onto Irish band Ash and Swedish band Kent listening to these guys and I believe they are still the only stations in the country playing them.

    It's nuclear transfer not cloning..
Nuclear transfer is technology by which animals are created by cloning a single diploid somatic cell. It involves taking a single diploid cell from a culture of cells, and inserting it into an enucleated ovum, i.e., an ovum from which the haploid nucleus has been removed. The resultant diploid ovum develops into an embryo that is placed in a recipient female, which gives birth to the cloned animal in the normal manner. Note that the term is somewhat of a misnomer, since it is a whole cell that is transferred, not just the nucleus.
