If you were vomiting, it probably was NOT the flu. See: http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20030114/flu_not030114/Health?s_name=&no_ads= Flu symptoms: coughing, sneezing, runny nose, achy muscles, fatigue, lethargy, fever Things not on the list: vomiting, diarrhea Nausea and vomiting from the flu can occur, especially in children, but they are not the hallmark of the disease. If you were "power hurling," you almost certainly did not have the flu.

Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but this article doesn't mention any comparison to "AIDS." This is good, because AIDS isn't an autoimmune disease. The article's comparison of evolving security responses to an autoimmune reaction is apt, but a comparison to AIDS/HIV wouldn't be.

Hey, rather than modding you down (that would be abusive, really), I thought I'd just respond with a small request: could we stop beginning our replies with vitriolic sentence fragments? I'm talking about little blips like "Incorrect." or "Wrong." or "Poorly thought out." Seriously, not taking the two seconds to make it an entire sentence is really unnecessary and rude; it comes off very curt and arrogant.

  6. Re:Fact Checking Michael Moore on GTA and Rating of Video Games · · Score: 1

    hey,

thanks for posting that article; I've been looking for something that brought up points like the ones it did. (Actually I would have liked even more, but anyway.)

I wanted to say, though, that I think the article's author missed Moore's main point. It seems to me that the film was a question about violence in America, a thing that is brought to light well in the context of how we use guns as compared to other countries that may be similar in many ways (eg canada.) If you really pay attention to what he is saying, it looks like he is definitely NOT campaigning for gun control. After all, he grew up loving guns and is a card-carrying (literally) NRA member.

Why do citizens in other countries not shoot each other as often? This, I think, is what Moore is asking-- why is violence in America so different? Now, if an article wants to take issue with this point, I'd like to hear it, as it, too, may be false. However, I'd say that the article you linked is attacking on the wrong front; it missed the message.

For the love of god, and post 9/11 america, not every damn thing has to be referential to post 9/11 america!!! These movies are FANTASY; you're article said so many times. I, for one, try to let my mind slip into any movie I watch. I don't go every time so that I can watch something that reminds me of the literal real world. If Spider-Man had a clear reference to 9/11, then great; it was subtle enough that your pedantry radar picked it up and my thrill at watching a guy fly on a string wasn't cheapened by an unnecessary symbolic reference.

Attack of the Clones may be blown out by Spider-Man, but guess what, it's not because an army of proletariat 9-year-olds had epic internal dissonance about the cultural symbolism in their action movies. As others have already posted within five minutes of your pablum hitting the front page, there are many factors, including number or screens opened on, movie quality as an independent entity, the fact that spider-man is novel and star wars in a lot of ways isn't, etc. This stuff makes me sick, but for some reason, I am drawn uncontrollably to read your tripe. It's like the drug dealer from the movie "GO" said, "family circus.....every day, I know it's in the corner of the paper, and I hate it, but I am uncontrollably drawn to it. Every day, it's there, just waiting to suck."

Nothing personal, but your analyses make me want to die, Mr. Katz.

I saw a few posts talking about Keven Poulsen, and I saw a few posts talking about how certain calls can go through from certain types of phones (ie payphones vs hotel phones vs residential phones report differently through the telco switches - see the post modded 5 near the top), but I haven't seen any posts pointing out the fact that Kevin Poulsen WROTE that article. Take a look at the bottom byline. That, at least for me, lends a little credibility to the idea that it could be a hack-for-hire type operation. Ok later.

  11. Yes, for the love of all things, mod the parent up on Turner CEO: "PVR Users Are Thieves" · · Score: 1

I read it, too, and I agree completely. Your dumb business model is none of my concern. As is always the case, changes in content delivery technology and changes in audience viewing habits will, and should, lead to changes in advertising methods. 'Trailers' used to be played at the end of the movie, hence the name, yet when the studios realized nobody was sticking around any longer, they decided to play them before the movie. This was a smart move and an adaptation to a changed viewing habit. What Turner apparently wants to do now would be analogous to these same studios placing armed guards at the theater exits and making you sit down, shut up, and watch the trailers at the end. Ludicrous. They can take my PVR from my cold, dead, and civilly disobedient hands if they decide to ban it.

Not only did you spell the "Britney" part of Britney Spears wrong, but you've obviously never heard of a company called Antares. Try a google search on them, as your sig so rightly suggests. You might just find that pitch correction technology has been around for a long time, definitely long enough for anybody who needs it to have gotten it already.

Reason being that your calculations assume that the number of permutations is wanted, whereas it is really the number of combinations that make up the potential googlewhack space. The 9 trillion number counts doubles with reversed order, ie it counts (button, thimble) and(thimble, button) as separate candidates.
