As for the porn busting thing.. my coworkers are making jokes about it and pulling out any thing vaguely sexual. such as, you can't mention "Mei Nv"(beatiful girl) in the game description.
Bottom line, Everything will be business as usual in a month or two.
you reminds me that in china people text-message their friends instead of talking on the phone. just checked my phone and i have received 180 and sent 112 text messages in two months over here. i probably do 10 in the whole year back in canada.
no problem to access it for me from shijiazhuang(3 hours by train from beijing). maybe just a temp network problem.? that said, i do find that the network in my city is much slower than beijing.

there is speculation in china that the 3-gore dam may be the one or among others to blame for the earthquake, because of the vast amount of water being kept in the upstream of Yangtze river,which is in the sichuan province, adding great pressure to the earth.
most of people in china don't read english at all so the information from west are useless to them. the firewall is bad for people who can read english but are computer-illiterate.
i can get through the proxy with either tor(tor.eff.org) or ssh tunnel. i prefer ssh tunnel as tor's speed is not reliable.
why people have page with black background and white text. it makes my eyes bleed!! and even worst, TFA has also a section with white background and black text.
can i record whatever you said in a bar and restaurant and post them later on the internet, make it searchable?
if i write something on my website. i know google will index it. but i don't expect my conversation in irc to be stored and made public available. using IRSeeK, you could get all my conversations by selecting my nick. most of the big irc networks forbid bot logging. unless you asked for permission and it is opt-in, vary for different networks.
er. give me a break. chinese people know what they are having in china are not democracy. and Chinese know more about U.S or just the western countries more than western people know about China.
it still surprised me that the western people think china is still a fucking cave that nobody knows what's going on in the outside world.
but I don't agree others that Slashdot should be redesigned _completely_. I am used to slashdot's style, the menu bar, the color. It is simple and easy to use. why on earth do you have to change the color and the style ?
the chinese goverment announced it few months ago and we went ahead and try to register our website just before the deadline. (me thinks that was may 23rd or something)
however, our website locate not only in one place but in 3 places.(bbs in NanJing, Fund in Beijing, wiki in shanghai) it's so much a hassel to register one by one. although there is an online registration http://www.miibeian.gov.cn/login.jsp
eventually, a friend told us that as long as no one report us to the gov and there is no illegal stuff going on. we are pretty much safe. also, if we runs bbs, it's very hard to get approved. so we gave up for now.
the censorship is a big hassel to everyone. just today, one of our member raisea a question we better get rid of the "bbs" word in our domain bbs.perlchina.org because of censorship.

i just upgraded from 0.8 to 1.0.2 two days ago.
found some great extentions on firefox site but i have these two problems.
I have to give up an extention 'IE view' which is not supported anymore.
the TBE (tab browsing extintion) has one feature I couldn't find in the new one. where is the "bring back the closed tab" feature ?
from 0.8 to 1.0.2, I haven't felt any significiant improves besides the new extentions.
