I've always wondered (from a non-technical point of view) whether there was a benefit in having our homes wired up with two sockets (or maybe a 5 pin mains plug) giving standard AC voltage and a low-current DC voltage as well (12V?). So many devices only need low voltage, wouldn't we all benefit in having a power system in our houses in this way?
Honestly, if 1.5hrs talk time on a cellphone is too little for you, then you made a poor choice when deciding which phone to get (ie the features vs battery life dilemna). I keep my old feature-free Nokia 6310i for when I just need a phone, and my nice shiny new 6680 for when I want to pose with a fun gadget.
We've already had batteries exploding in Nokia phones, can you imagine it with fuel cells - "Oh, the Humanity!".
Seeing as Canon are involved, they'll probably contain 5ml of Hydrogen, cost half the price of the camera and be chipped to prevent unauthorized refilling.
Am I the only one who's noticed that recently Slashdot seems to be reporting on Tech stories from BBC news anything from 24 hours to 3 days after they appear on BBC news - is there a particular reason why stories like this (which was posted on BBC News on Thursday) are so slow to make it to Slashdot?
Seeing as they've been slashdoted already, and not even with a direct link (a second-tier slashdotting via the Guardian article) - how do we expect them to be able to cope with the bandwidth requirements of hordes of users running at 24Mbps.
Not impressed!

You might still be helping them in some small way by confirming that your email address is valid. Ah, that's ok by me. All they'll do is send me more phishing forms which I'll continue to fill in with bogus details!
Whenever I get a phishing email, I visit the site and fill it in with (genuine looking) crap details.
Perhaps a small waste of their time sifting genuine responses from garbage, but if everyone did that it'd make their life a lot harder.
On the common ebay one, if it rejects your credit card as invalid, change the check digit (the last digit of the 16 digit number) until you get the right one.
Perhaps there's a good reason why this isn't any use in fighting phishers, but it makes me feel better anyway.
The spawn of Netscape, Firefox, has never been more popular, and is poised to beat Microsoft in the browser market.
I'm a firefox fanatic, it's without doubt the superior browser. But spouting such mindless rubbish as that comment doesn't do anyone any good. In my mind 'Poised to beat' would be when Firefox is at 49% browser share, not the less than 10% (compared to 80%+ for IE). Keep the propaganda out of news items please, and let Firefox promote itself by simply being the better browser.
Now available cheap. Someone will come along and tell you who sold/branded it in the US - but it does exactly what you want in the way you want it to. No messy external keyboards, decent keys, just enough CPU to perform, etc. etc.
It's not that artificial intelligence is getting smarter, it's that people are getting more stupid, that's how the gap is closing.

I think you'll find, if you read the slashdot EULA, you are NOT ALLOWED to check for dupe articles.

No, they've patented the Apache log file.

I have found a blue error screen is a natural warning of low-quality software.

Therefore anyone listening to rap music must be a criminal!

I hear they wanted 25 million GBP (over $40 million) for the gmail name in the UK.
Did they trademark 'BlackMail' too?

Or so the evidence would seem to believe. Due to the survival of the fittest (those who don't choke on pretzels, for example).

That's Base 16 on my planet.

Is it Imperial or Metric?
Because I'm in Europe, and need to know if I'll be able to listen in.
Jolyon
Does anyone being sued ever state anything other than the case is "Completely without Merit"?
"A spokesman said 'Actually, there is some merit in their case, but we're going to have a go fighting it anyway'" - hm. No not likely!
No doubt someone will come up with a real example now i've mentioned it.

I'm far more concerned about Fake Chicks that come up using Google Image search. Maybe we should sue.

Not sure where you got the price from, but my sources say it's going to be $350.
