I think that expecting users to flee a service following troublesome changes is unrealistic.
I disagree, think of Friendster, or even Myspace...the social networking crowd can be fickle, if facebook screws up that leaves a market opening for a competitor (ie. Google, Microsoft etc)
While this may be the opinion of the small group of libertarians who did this study, I know for a fact that many proponents of the Austrian School of Economics would not agree. The Austrian school forms a basis for libertarian philosophy. There are several Austrians who argue against IP altogether, so I see this as a misrepresentation of the platform. Look up Stephan Kinsella for instance.
The "singularity muppets" as you call them, are more concerned with informational technology, and the implications...as opposed to physical technology, which obviously isn't progressing as quickly. Advanced AI doesn't require a flying car.
It's not that, it's just the cable industry is so inefficient and in bed with government institutions that it has no incentive to innovate quite simply. If the market were to "free up" a bit, we might see some competition pushing for quality.
That sounds like good advice for race track conditions, but for some reason I think that on a two lane road, I would like to have the brakes on rather than swerving into oncoming traffic...
I've seen many a big budget movie by "competent directors" and the LOTR trilogy was far ahead of them. The battle scenes were great, but i don't see any reason to believe that jackson is not adequate in other aspects of filmmaking.
Earplugs, or ear protectors (available at gun shops), will do better in that case, because they will also block noises other than your PC. (Just be careful what you say if you go to a gun shop--I got some strange looks when I walked in and said I was looking for something to deal with a noisy neighbor!). BTW, earplugs and ear protectors stack--they tend to have different noise blocking characteristics, so using both helps.
If I didn't have to wear ear plugs at work, I would have thought that a reasonable idea....But wearing ear plugs for an extended amount of time is worse than someone giving you a hundreds of consecutive wet willies. They are not comfortable in the least bit, and I couldn't imagine being able to sleep with them in.
How about this--- John Smith's wildly popular U.K. beer spots by TBWA star well-known comedian Peter Kay as an overweight, useless parent who uses a sausage and a beer glass to illustrate the facts of life. Only a U.K. marketer would endorse such a loser as a brand spokesman
Umm, hello?
Dell Dude anyone?
but hopefully this issue as well as the horrible latency issues that made it pretty much unusable for scratching have been fixed.
Are you serious? Have you ever heard of DJ Craze? DMC Champion? He does Final Scratch sets all the time, as well as being a Stanton Spokesperson. It works, and it works well from what i know, but I haven't used it personally.
The cost is similar to the cost to produce a movie..the studios and equipment have already been bought and paid for, so the conglomerates can bill themselves whatever ridiculous amount they feel is neccesary, so they can then steal the "cost" from the artist when their record sells.
I don't know how a why this system is still around, but I don't see it changing anytime soon.
The actual cost to record and album can be just about anything, you can make "professional" quality sond on just about any PC with a variety of software..and many "artists" do just that, especially dance artists. Just about every beat you hear in a hip hop song was or can be made on a sampler that cost less than $3,000 USD.
The Wu-Tang clan is a prime example, they produced their first album for next to nothing!
Back in the 90's Michigan Wolverines basketball had 5 starting freshman - known as the Fab 5. They made it to the Final Four, but Webber messed it all up by calling a timeout they didnt have...
Chris Webber, Juwan Howard and Jalen Rose all went on to succesful NBA careers..don't know about the other guys though.
This would be a first for me, talk of sports on Slashdot!
Not to mention that cotton farming is also very hard on the envoirment

how about a currency backed in computer storage or processing? Then inflation would be a good thing!
and why would mr. murdoch do that? Isn't he basically a neo-con?
Better for them, not you! Would you rather die than pay a higher premium?
This system would be intresting if not for one important fact.
The way music sounds has little to zero impact on how well it will sell.
Marketing is the key factor to music sales, ask any quality indie artist.

Well, I am not sure about that.
I've seen many a big budget movie by "competent directors" and the LOTR trilogy was far ahead of them. The battle scenes were great, but i don't see any reason to believe that jackson is not adequate in other aspects of filmmaking.
But wait........
Isn't the title of the idiotic reality-tv show an Orwellian reference!
Ouch! Brain Freeze!
Would you be able to outfit a ship with conventional jet engines, and scramjets, and use the scramjets when reach supersonic speeds?
Would a humming fan have any effect working in a digital envoirment?
I am assuming they aren't going to put these in the vocal booth..
Well, if the device is in your car, it could be plugged into the car lighter at all times, so you wouldn't have to plug it in anywhere to recharge!

Why do you need a postage stamp size screen, if you could use these instead.
