They will ignore everything and give generic answers to worthless questions such as "how do I secure my home computer". The answer will probably be something like "use the microsoft firewall and the microsoft anti-spyware program, and a microsoft antivirus program on your geniuine microsoft windowxs xp operating system".
I used to reason exactly like you once and tried to use my software preferences when I choose hardware, no bloat etc, but eventually I found out that hardware "bloat" is not that bad, unlike the software kind. My most stable boxes are the ones that use the onboard components, whereas my old plain vanilla motherboard with a 3rd party soundcard hangs pretty frequently because of god-know-what compatibility issues. When you get onboard audio, at least you know it will work with the chipset.
I usually dont complain about the news coverage here but what's the point of this? We all know how Google looked back in 1998, either because we used the site back then or because everyone and his grandmother know about archive.org and google is probably one of the first things you try when visiting that site.
That eGroups link was pretty intersting though, at least I think so becuase it's down already.;)
Reynolds, now a telecommunications analyst at the Organization for Economic Cooperation & Development (OECD), an international body that researchers the state of world economies, says South Korea is a far different place today, with 73% of the population enjoying high-speed Net access at home.
Is it just me or do anyone else find it highly annoying when articles with statistics like these don't bother linking to any source material? I would like to know Swedens position for example. According to TFA 73% of South Koreas population has broadband. What's the figure for other countries?
If the mp3-player doesn't work with regular usb mass storage device drivers it probably sucks. If I have to install your closed source program to use the mp3-player I will not buy it.
I don't want a display. I can hear what music I am listening to thank you, I don't need a display to tell me that. A display is a sign of bad usuability and design. A mp3-player with a display will most certainly have lots of crappy features noone needs, whereas a player without must have a better design to Just Work.
I don't want fancy features, equalizer options etc. No FM-radio, no weird repeat options, just a play/pause/stop-button, volume control and perhaps a change song button. (see above).
This is not a computer game, but have you tried Dungones and Dragons or other traditional pen and paper role playing games? Heck, you don't even need a pen and/or paper to play the game, in my gaming group the Dungeon Master usually keep track of our characters anyway. The only thing you need is good imagination and the ability to speak.:) If you like this idea but don't know where to start, I suggest you check out the Dungoens & Dragons forum www.enworld.org . The members there are _very_ friendly and mature. Heck, you'd make a great Dungeon Master, if you can find players who know the rules themselves!
Here are a couple of computer games recommendations...
How about racing games like Need for Speed? If I recall correctly you can control the cars entirely with your mouse, that's how I played the game back when Need for Speed II was out. I can also recommend the RPG suggestions. Fallout and Fallout 2 are two really great turn based strategy games that works remarkably well without a keyboard. You can probably play Sim City and the likes without a keyboard, too.
I an trying to think of any team-based / network / MMORPG games that can be controlled without a keyboard, games with a large community so you can use teamspeak/skype etc to communicate in real time with your friends. Those games rock!
And then we have the smaller titles, like Minesweeper etc.:)
This is a problem with USPTO, not Microsoft. I mean, how is this any different from me downloading pirated movies? It's wrong, but I do it anyway because I can (get away with it). It's the same with Microsoft, they can patent pretty much everything because the problem lies with "the system". Fix the USPTO, fix the problem. Fix the distribution system for movies, fix the warez problem.
A telephone-based survey of adults who use the Internet found that more than three-quarters receive spam daily. The average spam messages per day is 18.5 and the average time spent per day deleting them is 2.8 minutes.
2.8 minutes to delete 18 e-mails? That's 10 seconds per mail, man that's ineffective. I'd guess the companies would save billions if their employes learned how to read and respond faster, or at least if they learned that if the e-mail subject says "c1al|z", it IS spam, no reason to verify it by reading the thing.
Finally, it has arrived, Judge Brooke Wells' Order on SCO's Motion Re Discovery. It's annoying because she enables more delay, but other than that it is a pretty normal discovery order. SCO doesn't get access to CMVC, they do get more code and they get not all programmers' notes but some. She postpones any decision on production of documents from top managment. Keep in mind, she isn't the trier of fact. That is Judge Kimball. She is the Magistrate, so it's not her job to decide who is right or wrong. Her job is simply to make sure everybody's cards are on the table.

Hardware such as this video card or AMD:s FX55 CPU:s aren't meant to be used, they are created for one reason only and it's to be known as the Creator of the Fastest Chip on Earth. The consumers know it as penis weaving contests, to them it's just marketing...
It's the mid-end segment that counts. AFAIK 80% of all ATI video cards sold 2003 were the 9200 and 9600, both incredibly slow compared to the high-end segment. Heck, Intel is the largest video card manufacturer on earth, and they don't exactly make video cards you can use in Doom III...
Thats nice and all but the wikipedia article actually _have_ info not in TFA, such as the release date (2008).

Sounds like RIAA to me.
The essay's title is probably derived from Paul Graham's essay Why Smart People Have Bad Ideas. Recommended read by the way, that man has insight.

I have no idea what that was supposed to mean. Mix in a few more metaphors and it might just make sense.

Install the program, open PCBKDP.DAT. There's a list of "file sharing"-applications the program searches for. Among them is LordOfSearch 1.57.
