Alias is also the maker of the premier design CAD package, StudioTools. It is used be nearly every automotive design center as well as most product studios. In the world of industrial design, it is god-like.
I think that with Apple's 64bit systems, they can give the likes of Sun and SGI a run for their money, hardware wise. StudioTools does run on windows x86, just not as well. Both Maya (then Power Animator) and StudioTools started life in IRIX, which is what made Maya such an easy port to OSX (i think it only took 2 months). Apple would love to enter the 3D workstation market and id love to see them, because StudioTools is the only program that i need to keep a wintel box around for.
there were rumors at the end of summer that Alias was working on a StudioTools port to OSX, but i havent heard anything since.
I never said that the real life ads werent obtrusive, and is part of the reason that i dont watch much tv. A quick glance at my shelf shows that i only have one game with product advertising in it, Super Monkey Ball, and its annoying as f**k. I do understand that ads ad realism in some games, i just dont enjoy playing to many of them, because when i play games i do so to escape reality.
Ugg! You have a crap viewing angle because you have a crap LCD. You should have dropped the coin for a real LCD, like a Samsung or an NEC, hell even the Dell branded ones are nice (i think they are Samsungs though). I invested in a 21" Samsung 213T and have no regrets. Great brightness, 1600/1200 native rez, DVI+VGA, incredible response for its size @~24ms, and a nearly 180deg viewing angle. It cost several bills more than the viewsonic 21", but its worth every.
Why, if your plunking down the cash for a "4 year" would you go into something that dosent interest you, that you have no passion for? I couldnt sit and look at spreadsheets all day, so i chose not to go into finance. I dont like dealing with the public, so i didnt go into a service related job. I dont enjoy math enough to become an engineer, so i didnt. I chose to persue a profession in product design, because it incorporates all of the things that i enjoy, problem solving, creating things, drawing and various other applied disciplins. Are there crappy design jobs, sure, but ive geared my education to avoid them. Only you are the master of your destiny.
Do i have to draw at my job? Yes. Do i draw at school? Yes. Do i still draw for personal enjoyment? All the time.
Choose something that you enjoy doing and persue it as a career, BUT, know the pitfalls and how to avoid them, and you can still have it as a hobby.
I just dont understand how you could do something you hate for the rest of your life, and be content with it.
Maybe its naive of me to say all of this, but it enfuriates me when people complain about their career choice.
Agreed, im still playing it on my XP box how many years later. I had this on my 386-25 and will have it on every computer i own EVER! As far as im concerned i rate every RTS games against Dune II, it was that good. But then again i also compare all FPSs against Doom, so take as much salt as you need.
This guy digitized a number of classic and influential pc demos for posterity, knowing that the hardware to view them in their original form would be soon difficult to obtain. His problem was how to capture the video and audio from various old systems, have the audio sync up, and then master it for DVD. Not an easy technical feat.
Included on the DVD is a small section where he goes into the details of how he captured some of the more difficult demos. It might be worth watching or getting a hold of the guy.
Also, would it be possible to put a RGB display card in the machine you need to capture on? I used to scan on an old 9000series powermac that was connected to a then expensive 22" RGB display. I dont know the specs of the card or monitor, but it opens up several possibilities, like using a RGB vcr and recording to tape.
this looks great for pizza box layouts, but i like towers. And i particularly hate verticly mounted drives in my towers, cause then i cannot use my 8cm cdrs without an adapter.
I like the direction that Dell and Apple have gone in with their towers. Bottom mounted PSU mainly, to keep the center of gravity low.
I want to see a good new tower spec, because it looks like BTX will not scale to tower configs.
Like Paul Thourout's (sp?) winsuperduperxxxtrasite should lead you in the right direction. Then again in the windows world, news == a MS press release == FUD/propaganda so good luck sifting the BS.
I dont want censorship of anything. Guidelines and laws pertaining to its usage, sure, but those are already in place. Technicaly no person under the age of 18 is allowed to buy a M rated game, and is that way for a reason. GTA is rated M, so what are we worried about. Enforce the laws we have now before you make new ones.
Made for pilots and divers, they are the pinnacle of technology, craftsmanship and style (also price unfortunately). Their Cosmonaute has an analog 24hr layout that takes some getting used to. And their Emergency model has a built in beacon if you eevr get stranded on a deserted island, but you need to be a liscensed pilot to buy one. Their Professional line has several analog/digital combos. The best watches you can buy as far as im concerned.
I also like Swatches, their Skin line is only like 1mm thick. AND theyre cheap enough you can buy several.
First for Sega DC, then for the Cube. I must have put at least a few hundred hours into each, but the kicker is i havent played a single minute online. I just became addicted with the leveling up. Id play it at night and it was always, 'One more level, then ill sut it off.' Then the sun came up and i had to go to work, sleepless.
I now refuse to pull it off my shelf.
Its kind of nice that they're ruining the 3rd game, cause now i wont get addicted to it. I dont like card games. Let me hack and slash and pick up shit and level up. Thats all i want.
this should be great for recording engineers trying to keep their studios as quiet as possible. you dont realize just how much ambient noise there is arround you until you step into a mix room of a recording studio, its an alien experience.

Except your post has one fault, they do not charge you less, they simply make more profit, and stick you with obtrusive ads.

Its from SGI.
Come to think of it, maybe i would like to kick Tigers ass.

thats my $0.02.
No, i think that we nailed a C64 a while back. To lazy to find the article though.

Wonder what they might clock to? 100ghz? More?
You know, racism works both ways, right?

ive always wished i could run linux like this, it made trying the BeOS that much easier, and now it runs as the only os on my P1 ThinkPad.
Get a Breitling.

Id just like to second this as the most useful Mox plugin out there. If your not using it, maybe you should look into it.
To all of you geeks, this is a pun based off of the areola, or nipple. One day you just might get to see one of these.
I now refuse to pull it off my shelf.

No tears here.
seems simple to me, if enough people reject it, companys that banked on it will fail and the people will win. In theory at least.

sounds like a Zim plot to me.
my gripe is the price, $1100. half that and bring the world into the future please someone!
