theres also something more than copies sold numbers that figures into this, like time since release? or maybe slowed sales?
i think that the xbx method is most accurate, its not when it passes a set milestone, its when it passes a set mile stone AND they just feel like it. plus, ive heard the game sucks, like most 'movie games'. brings that famous atari cart to mind, you know 'E.T.' if you dont know... look it up.
The best game ive played recently is Metroid Fusion, not even a console title! it takes teh original 2d concept and adds to it in numerous subtle ways. i sure hope thers a comeback soon, esp with Viewtifu Joe releasing soon.

at least theyre words, much better than the cryptic alphanumerics of Linux. Also programs with 'real' names are more memorable, im more willing to remember 'photo downloader' than phDl and its associated libs. Not every program suffers from this either, but a significant number do, and it makes it scary to a new user. Things are getting better, but not by much, check the freshmeat listing if you want an example. but if the program works, i could care less what its called.
try at 3d labs theyre wild cat series is amazing for high end apps that take advantage of it. i have many friends that use fire gls and quadros, and i hear that they are not the best gaming cards, but they destroy gaming cards where they need to, in DCC apps and other specialized apps. features like hardware overlay planes and line anti aliasing arent needed by gamers, but developers would surely cry without them.
i believe there are some sites that use gaming benchmarks to review these cards, try highend3d.com, they usually are a good place to start looking into it. if not, google is your friend.
im surprised apple has done nothing to use their music store to entice people to subscribe to.mac. although there is plenty of free music in your idisk. they could have a 10 free songs a month for.mac subscribers, or something to that effect. or maybe im just crazy.
SGI is the only hardware that excites me more than Apple. Its unfortunate that they have fallen from the mountain that they built. After starting on an Indy, and an Indigo and then moving to a dual Proc Octane 2, i can tell you first hand that they truly do make awesome hardware. I havent gotten my hands on a Fuel yet, but im sure thats great too. The only thing stopping me from buying their machines (second hand) is software. All the software for the system costs more than the hardware does! (ie... Alias, Maya, AutoCAD) well maybe ill get one to replace my PovRAY server./me checks ebay.
its done with teh idle GPU, and is actually faster! esp on slower machines, like >500mhz G4s and G3s. all of the 'fluff' without the overhead, get a clue!
alias wavefront has personal learning editions of theyre products. they are free, and full featured, except fora watermark on the output. but they are professonal tools, and are great to learn.
theres Maya, for animation, charachters, and more 'artsy' stuff
and Studio Tools for 'a-surface' quality modeling. (if you dont know what that means, you shouldnt be using it).
you can also try Rhino 3d, its made by some of the ex-alias coders, and is excellent as wellas low cost.
lightwave and 3studio max are great, but also expensive.
learning any package will make it substantially easier to learn another. once you grasp all of the conceps of modeling, its just learning all of the different interfaces.
you should also figure out if you want to do poly modeling or NURBS modeling, cause they are two distinct sets of skills. in maya you can do both well, so id reccommend grabbing the PLE of that.
this is the standard for european countries that rely heavily on acents. countries like France, and Spain ust them i know. im even typing on one right now. on them all you do is hit the accent required like then hit the letter required, like ö ë ä é è ç £ ù ò ù ëtc... look into one of these if you are going to be using acents extensivly. see it in action here
apple has the best language support if you ask me, so this shouldnt be a problem at all. you can always use keycaps.
good idea. its like how you know when to stop filling a container even when you cant see the height of the liquid. you can just hear its pitch climbing slowly as the accoustics of the container change. although when configured wrong, sounds can be just as bad as too much visual information. I think Apple have payed alot of attention to this over the years, their sounds are miles ahead of window's. does linux even have them? (my linux experience is limited and marked with failure). this could make for a nice haxhie if you could implement it.

you know this is the exact reason they make the PLE version of it? watermarks suck, but free full featured programs dont.
