I'm afraid to even get excited over this. I'd love to see a major shake up in the physics world. It would mean what we know is wrong and other paths need persued. But after reading the article I'm thinking this may be science along the lines of those fuel saving vacuum tornado devices rather than actual science.
As a side effect this may more solidly prove the current theory or have more people (far smarter than I) look into alternatives that may lead to actual discoveries. I guess with science no press is really bad press.
Typically there is the "I am at 13 years old or older" checkbox.
I set up a hotmail and yahoo account for my son and they both required I enter my own information as well as a credit card number to verify I was of legal age.
He still gets v1agr4 and c1ali5 spam though. I think they should have to do something about that. His member will increase in size without drugs. He's only 5, he has plenty of time to grow.
You can play it on another computer that has steam installed and you logged in. You cannot, however sell the game. The game is tied to your steamID and it will not work with another steamID. So you _could_ sell the software but it won't work for anyone but you without a unique cd key.
This theory you have could be applied to any number of consumer commodities. If we lived life by your theory we would never leave our house, we'd all have stockpiles of gasoline and generator parts and we would live a very different lifestyle than we do now. Yes, game companies have closed shop in the past, and people have been burned on buying their games to find they have no servers to authenticate with or play on. I've had this happen to me and it is one of the most basic principles of life. All of life is a gamble. If you don't gamble you don't live life to its fullest extent.
Valve/Steam is really kind of an interesting thing to watch right now. My personal belief is that they are going to end up losing more than they gain in their quest to become the AOL/Time Warner of the gaming world but it is an interesting struggle. Within the community itself lies a huge percentage of people complaining about the system or lack of availability even on the HL1 platform. Now they will introduce (I'm assuming) several hundreds of thousands of new users to the system. I'm not saying it will fail or it will pass but it will be fodder for all of the game tech news sites once again and for quite a while I assume.
One day we'll look back on this and tell our grandchildren, "Oh yeah? I lived through the Half Life 2 transition. All 20 years of it.":-P
Your science is impressive. I enjoyed it. You are most likely right. But I'll still continue to run my seti@home client because if there is 1 in 10^23rd possibility that I can help locate life forms, then my spare cycles are worth it. I enjoy knowing there is the very very slim possibility that I might find "ET phoning home" so to speak. I'm well aware of the fact that I have a better chance of dying yesterday but for some people such as myself the miniscule act of helping the way we do is enough to justify it all.
Some people play the lottery. Some people believe in god. Some people do both. I just run SETI@HOME.
I know this is off topic but this idea has been running through my mind for the last few days. Why doesn't somebody decompile the virus and change the payload to the actual cure for this security hole? I'm not well versed enough to do something like this but certainly someone on here is.
Yes, I know, this would be as illegal as writing the virus itself but honestly who is going to convict someone of releasing a virus that contains the fix for the security hole?
I know Avantgo does not work. I tried to get that working through a custom channel but their IP is blocked. I emailed them regarding this and received a courteous, prompt reply indicating some users had posted bad comments or somesuch.
Dmoz.org is about as close to a not for profit alternative to google.
The truth is though, all that bandwidth costs money. Programmers typically want paid. Hardware breaks and electricity is most often not free. I know a non-profit organization still makes money to cover these costs but I don't see the need for anything more than dmoz if that's what you want.
I won't rewrite the article here but there are many other interesting facts such as why they didn't fix the first one and other such nuggets of knowledge.
The truth is you would have a very difficult time getting people to join an IT union, in my opinion. And even when you did get enough to make a difference, there's still at least 50% (and I suspect quite a bit more) of the workforce out there that will act as free agents and will take jobs as they can get them.
I'm not saying unions are bad, they have done a great deal for our country's workers throughout the years. I just see this as one of those issues that has more to do with government than it does organized labor. Certainly an IT union would tell us all to vote these guys out. I don't want to get into a political debate so everyone should make that decision on their own.
For all of those people who think being anonymous and giving fake info is the way to go...
I feel everyone should be accountable for what they say and do. So if you want to spout off about some hate group (just like in real life) you might have to pay the consequences. Nothing in life is free so stand up for what you believe in and live with what comes from saying it. If you aren't willing to pay the price then you should not be saying those things in the first place.
I do quite a bit of travelling and often stay for weeks at a time in hotels in smaller cities around the east coast. I've stayed in everything from a super 8 to the more upscale hotels and I have my own wishlish to provide that most current hotels do not offer.
A full sized refrigerator.
A stove with an oven.
Actual computer desks instead of a table and a chair. Bonus points if its big enough for my computer, the wife's, and my son's.
Actual closets with closing doors
Cabinets and draws to place food and utensils in
Full sized coffee makers
Much more floor space
For areas without broadband in rooms, a secondary phone line for dial up that doesn't send callers to your voice mail.
In short, I don't want the warming toilet, crazy showers, or hdtv. I just want what a person would want at home: Things to live on and live with.

The thing about hlguard is that the server admin has to read the docs and play with the settings for your particular mod. I've worked with this software quite a bit on 3 different mods (tfc, cs, and deathmatch/valve) and I find that the settings vary on each one. It is not foolproof. It is not the be all and end all of anti-cheat technology but it is an excellent tool if properly utilized.
I just brought it up because the article, thorough as it was, hadn't mentioned it.
I'm surprised that the article didn't mention hlguard, also developed by united admins. It runs on all sorts of hl mods and is likely one of the most used anti cheat tools available. In case you are not familiar with it, it contains tools to check for aimbotting, common cheat cvars, and manual ogc detection. If you run any type of hl server (and it's interesting they don't mention the hundreds of other hl mods) hlguard is definitely a server side addon you should look in to.
I waited and waited for the screenshot to load and finally it did. I guess I expected more than transparancy tricks in the window borders. It's great that it compiles on a good number of platforms, but I don't think it's quite enough to make the masses switch.
Honestly, it reminds me of the windows alternate shell, LiteStep which also plays transparancy tricks and lives on top of another os, giving a customizable look and feel not available with the host OS. Honestly I'm surprised nobody's made this point yet.

Just wait for the USA Today edition with pretty color pictures and easy to read graphs and charts.
I'll stick with reading the article and drawing my own conclusions. Your milage may vary.
Case in point, the horrible band Green Jelly started out as Green Jell-O in 1981. It wasn't long before they weren't green Jell-O anymore.
CE = collector's edition.
Comes on 1 DVD, x-large t-shirt, basic hint book, and a quick reference key chart.

Pixar still has to complete their contract with Disney. If I recall correctly that is 2 movies. I could be mistaken.

I have a Sony Clie, Palm OS 5. I'll try both of those programs and see what I can come up with, thanks bunches!

I, too, wish there was resolution for this.

The best thing to do in this situation is to ask google one simple question: how do I register to vote?
