It's easy to solve. Let the political parties that the candidate represents foot the bill. If corps want to donate money, they can do so unconditionally to the party and the party would decide who or what the money goes to.
Microsoft et al has Billions to invest in the US Government
By this you imply that the US government and politicans are corrupt and can easily be bought. How can Americans accept this? Esp when they are so pissed off over other countries governments and corruption, while the US government and politicans are the most corrupted ones in the world.... Amazing....
Not in Sweden....That is your antiquated sentencing which is a huge contributor to USA currently having around 25% of the worlds prison population but only 5% of the worlds population....
I don't think MTV would be willing to waste a lot of money on you and your 4 friends into the demoscene....
I watched the first episode of The Scene and it was boooooooooooooooooorrriiiiingg.... 18 minutes watching a crackpot talking on IRC with that godawful WinXP Teletubbytheme clawing out my eyes... No thank you, this was a series best forgotten and not even worthy of/. space. RIP!
Cheaper calls? Not if you have seen the over-your-limit charges the telcos slap you with. $5 a minute? not unheard of, just because you chatted more than your 500 minutes per month
I've used mobile phones since the late 70's, first the huge mastodonts in a small suitecase, plugged into your cars lighter, with an antenna on the car roof, via the first hand helds in the 80's up to the new ones we have today. Oh yes, I lived in Europe during those early years.. The American system is IMHO, not very good as you have to pay for incoming calls and whatnot. paying per minute used is much more economic for the consumer and ensures that you will get no overage charges, resulting in a second mortgage to pay the bill...
So MILD torture is OK, while HARSH torture is not.
What is the line here?
Batons against your footsoles is ok? Sleep-depravation, is that ok? Heat/cold changes in your surroundings? What exactly do you find acceptable of torture methods? I just want to make sure I understand your concerns...
I also find they tend to waste a lot of valuable screen real estate on silly things.
huh?
I use KDE, but I also have Gnome installed and neither one of them take up any screen real estate. Set your panels to autohide and you can, as I have done for years, use the whole 100% of the screen for whatever program your run.

Thinking the words are discounted at 10% over spoken words!
One thing we need to consider is the following: One plnate has to be the first to develop intelligent life!
What if it has taken 13 billion years for intelligent life to evolve and we are the first to do so?
What if life flares up and dies out again within a few million years?
What if this galaxy only contains a few planets with intelligent life and far apart, but other galaxies contains life in abundance. The distances makes it very difficult to communicate.
What if the universe is full of life but because of distances it is not possible or extremly difficult to communicate?
It is a very interesting area, but unfortunatly we can do little more than speculate. And yes, SETI is just a speculation, a speculation based on how WE think another life-form would communicate. Alas, I will never live to find out if there is life on other planets.
Ahh, Birmingham is not the only place I've been to. let's see.... London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Hull, Carlisle, Hastings, Brighton, and numerous other places. I've also been to several cities in Scotland. Playing golf in UK is always fun, esp the great courses in Scotland, St. Andrews, Carnoustie, Royal Aberdeen, Gleneagles etc.
And it is not more than a couple of years since last visit. So, please don't knock my experience off totally.
I've been in the UK too many times and for too long at a time... I used to spend weeks at the time in Birmimgham during the mid 80's and flew to Amsterdam each week-end to relax. B'ham was the most boring city I have ever visited and I've been to quite a few!
Climate? Well, all I can say is that my current residency, Florida, suits me better than muggy UK.
Food? Does British food exist? If it does, it is probably just a notch better than US food.
Women? So and so... I personally prefer latin women, but that is just me.
Beer? Ahhh... Now we're talking business.. US beer is like fucking in a canoe... Damn close to water!
Cars? Ah yes, my beloved Jaguar. Will never get a different car.
All-in-all... UK is not a bad part of the world, but not my personal pick...
Looks like features from Oracle 7.0 which was released around 1993... *yawn*

Not only do they have the hottest women in the world, but they have a government with a working brain too!
But will they be able to break my password?
It is:

Why do you want to make this baby slower than my ruler?

See the problem?
A wine lover would now that you serve white wine with the fishy-type alien and red wine with the meaty-type alien!
Geeeezzz... What happened to education?

Which dictionary? English? Spanish? Zulu? Georgian? Chinese? Vietnamese? Tagalog? Or all of the above? What about a mix of languages?....
Not practical at all...

Gentoo, of course :-)
Wow.. It took only 4 minutes to get modded down 3 points... Not bad :) I'm impressed...
*yawn*
Another crappy anime thingy, totally uninteresting and now I will be either modded as a troll or something else, but I have karma to burn..
Horrible cartoons from Japan is just that... RIP.
No the "sybian" is correct for Nokia when you turn off the sound and turn on vibration!

Reading Playboy to figure out how to have a threesome????
You know that the answer is to knock your mom and sister in the head with a club in order for you to have a threesome!
