You fight about, who of two sides is the bad one... because all you've learned is that there *must* be two sides, and one *must* be good, while the other *must* be bad. This is so fuckin' stupid, it's beyond what one can describe with words.
There are M_N sides made of N people, with opinions about P things, overlapping for the part of Q_PN, doing things that are R_S_N (eg bad) for the moral value S_N of those people. The M_N sides are formed of groups of overlappings as seen by N_x.
So your whole thread - from the beginning to the whole stuff that it lead to - is by definition pointless.
It was a great performance! The best I've seen for a long time. Here is your golden cup... *HandingItOver*
You lucky bastards!! In Germany the other half complains about the complaining of the first half, and then people forget about the thing... But only because they found a different thing to complain about. Except if some little man with a loud and silly voice does a mass rally. Right wing, left wing, whatever... it does not matter. He's the loudest, he's complaining, so he leads!;)
Hmm... somewhere in there is a joke about how DNF is the hell-portal in Doom 3 and what would have happened to Doom 3 if DNF came out at that time. Hmm... i can't quite catch it...;)
Shoes are not an extravagance in any way. Most of the time you don't need them, and when you need them, they are unhealthy and not very comfortable. They are a necessary bad.
It's like Linux. I walked barefoot (used Linux) for one week in the summer (winter), and never looked back. Of course when I have to, like when it's too warm or cold (when i play games), there's a chance to really hurt me (for music software), or i go out at the weekend (for that stupid proprietary banking chip-card).
(No, you can't hurt yourself with music software... except when you use the stuff that came with you sound card.)
Hmm... this depends on the cinema. I heard, that in the USA, it's quite normal to have loud obnoxious people and bad seats.
I'm from germany, and I'm used to very nice seats, clean rooms, quiet people (except for the moments where you hear the whole crowd do something [like laugh]), and food that we hid in our clothes or got free because we knew the girl who sold it.:D Then when you add THX (for many movies this is a huge gain to the whole experience), or maybe even IMAX, there's no home cinema system that can even come close.:D
Oh, and of course because my friend was the guy who controlled the projector, he could have paused it at any time and go to the toilet (but we were nice to the others:)
One thing that you HAVE to see once in your life, is playing something like Gears Of War on the PS3...IN THE CINEMA! It was quite a process to get it hooked up (proprietary connectors/protocols and long cables were the biggest problems), but it was worth it!:D Ask the manager if you can loan the room in a time where no movie is playing. Maybe he lets you do it. Knowing him and letting him see it too, helps a bit, tough.
Well. Even in military. If you take their comrades to jail over bullshit and make them poor so that they start to starve and oppress basic needs of existence, they will flip out and revolt. And there needs only to be one higher level military guy who takes his whole division (I'm not good in military terms. You know what i mean.) with him, to get thousands on the other side.
Well... If the revolution comes, I hope it's not that much of an epic fail as in some 3rd-world countries, where the head of the revolution imitates the last guy... only worse.:\ Or is bought by another government, like in the Ukraine (The one was bought by the USA, the other one by Russia. Nobody cared about what the people want.)
Oh, and it may be a misunderstanding... I did not intent do say FOSS is bad. Quite the opposite is the case. And my post was not related to that question.
Wait. I used the InfoBox with the keyboard. Alt-Enter was it, or not?
The thing with the styles worked in WordPro too. Normally i worked like this: I started writing, and every time I have something looking different, I make a new style for it with the InfoBox and assign it a shortcut (working only in that document). Then i use that shortcut while continuing to write. If i encounter a one-time style (e.g. a special coloring scheme for table cells) i do not save it as a style because i do not need it.
Okay, in fact I used WordPro like i use HTML+CSS today. Every style had a semantic meaning. The best thing was the "style after this paragraph" setting.
You are still right tough that the InfoBox should have been much more keyboard-accessible. Even though you could assign much to keyboard shortcuts. I even developed an application with an InfoBox where it was impossible to click the box (it ran away from every cursor), so you had to do I with the keyboard, which was - because of a special navigation algorithm - much faster for any option in that menu.
You imply things on me that go exactly in the opposite of what i meant. For example you imply that i want anything to be simple. I think "making everything simple" is a horrible disease.
The other arguments just builds on that or can't be decoded.:\
Read my post again, please.
Oh, and read this, http://linux.oneandoneis2.org/LNW.htm for your "i want my new app to be exactly like the old one, but still better" non-argument.;)
Basic development 1x1. Split the different layers with proper interfaces. StoragelogicUI etc.
I don't know enough about the internals of OOo to know if they did a proper split, but i guess, from the history of it, the answer is most certainly "no".:\
But that's exactly the point. Food actually hurts starving countries even more than it helps them. This is, because normally nature falls in a balanced state by itself. If you give them more food, they can raise more kids. Not a bad thing, except if afterwards you don't provide food for them too, and so on. Fact is: The land can't support more people, so if there are more born than there die, they will die too. This will happen to the whole world, as soon as it reaches the global limit.
So the best thing you can do in teach them. Teach them your tricks for how to optimize their resources. Teach them better ways to act on the global market. Teach them logic, reasoning, "basic" knowledge, and how to defend themselves, so they can't be oppressed and exploited that easily.
Therefore, the most important target right now should be, to make the Internet, and it's huge global knowledge base and collaboration / trade system available to *everyone* even people who can't read and live in a clay hut. (There does only need to be one nerd-prototype in the village who can teach them stuff from the net in exchange for a part of their food.
I think sending food and clothes is more cruel than to do nothing. (Note that i did not make a statement about the cruelty of doing nothing.)
rofl. fringe group jokes are always funny. but you forgot
eskimos (can only think of raw fish with poo, a real dish eaten there. not dangerous... but still disgusting;)
east-europeans (drink like a hole, racist, never seen in stylish clothes, shady too)
french and american (arrogant assholes, the ones thin like a broomstick, the others fat like a sea cow, overly proud of their country) [putting them in one group alone is funny enough for "hours of laughing"]
british (ugly as hell, dumb as hell, drink even more, beat each other up even more)
germans (don't do anything until it's buried, found, delegated and signed 3 times, would such an foreigner's dick just so he does not call them nazis, never oppose against anything except "everybody's doing it" or there's a loud angry guy rallying)
far easterners (tiny, worth nothing without their peers, sing no matter how bad they are, say "yes yes, everything's fine" even if your hotel room is exploding and everyone gets a huge rap up the ass from satan who raised from hell)
add to indians: sing at every occasion, can speak english in a way that you don't understand a single word.
did i forget someone?
oh, and i'm half luxemburgish (think of a mix of german, dutch and french) and half afghani (think asian arabs). i'm used to this...;)
APE and FLAC are
1. lossless
2. compressed (= smaller)
3. playable in any serious music player (if you go audiophile, that's what you use anyway)
oh, and if you got problems with cover images, lyrics, explicit/non explicit versions, remixes or multitrack (serial and parallel) files,
there's always the matroska container (ending mka for audio).
yes, there are even custom firmwares for some portable players, that play all those formats in audiophile quality (as much as the player does support it, of course;)
If only there were some old Lotus ideas in this. WordPro's (and 123s) InfoBox was the best user interface module I ever used. If was very easy to work proper (with format classes) and it was quick to use. I installed it in every company i worked, and soon everyone had it, and was used to it. There are still people who now have to work with that nightmare of an UI that Microsoft provides (a modal dialog to get to all formatting options... really??), the comparably bad imitation that Openoffice is (why does open source imitate more than innovate? and wort of all: imitate Microsoft? either you can say how bad MS is, or you can imitate it. you can't have both.), or another - strangely similar - office package, who tell me how bad that thing is, compared to SmartSuite. (Yes, this is all subjective. But for the vast majority i think they (would have) liked SmartSuite more.)
But instead of just implementing the InfoBox in OpenOffice (an idea that i would pay serious money to have), they just used the sidebar click-orgy paradigm + the gnome dumb-down* paradigm.;) Great... idea...
* No, I do not have anything against simplifying the UI, as long as it's only for people who WANT it simple [eg. don't want to spend much, or don't have much resources for it]. Make your UI *SCALABLE* and make everyone happy.:)
For the most retarded thread of this story!

Yeah. As if you did not post the GP post yourself to get the karma back that you lost from imitating twitter. :P

I guess it's like in the Netherlands, where the police was/is the drug dealer. (Before it became legal. I don't know how it's today.)

I clears many things up. :D
LOL. Thank you for clearing that up. I should have KNOWN that there was no original work allowed at Microsoft! ^^
But, unfortunately they all still look and behave so similar - in concepts that are so bad - that it does not make much of a practical difference.
Of course I'll never insult any project again by saying they cloned Microsoft. :D

What would be required to create such a spark...? I'm just .. um... interested... you know... O:-)
[Seriously... If you could describe the atmosphere of such an environment... would make a very interesting read for most of us. :)]

They rip with EAC, in secure mode... behave like quality nazis... (a good thing to me)
and then... rip to... MP3???
Oh my.... what were they thinking?
Never heard of OGG, or MPC, or APE, or FLAC?
The pain... cant's stand it... *runs in terror*
What? I thought he was still after ManBearPig...
Q: What do you get, when you cross a human with CO2?
A: ManBearPig?
Haha. You forgot to post anonymously. Gotcha!
Yes, you are completely right. I addressed the "growing problem" with the ability to set your "difficulty level" at any time. :)
Sorry. I'm no native speaker, and my spelling checker did not complain. How do you write this then?
Humm... you gave me an idea... could Steve Jobs be the brother of Bono? In a South Park-ish way (S11E09 - More Crap).
