It's a great little box - it's almost like a slingbox, but it works better for me. But then there's Discovery HD, ESPN HD, and all the premium movie channels in HD that you can't get because you need that damned CableCARD. Whatever happened to antitrust laws? IANAL, but they apply to the CableCARD consortium and should be enforced.
Really, at that price, getting a $20,000 projector and setting up a rear projection screen system would be better. I mean, you could use the $70,000 saved to buy a handful of Blu-Ray(TM) DVD's!
Lithium batteries are indeed pretty dangerous, all by themselves. Lithium is in the group of most reactive metals. That's why there's so much research into new types of batteries. According to Wikipedia, there's several mechanisms a lithium battery needs to have before it can be approved for use: a shut-down separator (for overtemperature), a tear-away tab (for internal pressure), vent (pressure relief), and thermal interrupt (overcurrent/overcharging).
What about professional applications that require non-fluorescent bulbs? Theater lighting, photography studios, art studios, et cetera mostly rely on incandescent bulbs and halogen bulbs because they provide a more "real" lighting scheme. The fluorescents tend to take the warmness out of any colors.
Chlorine is pretty neutral, actually, in terms of pH. Let's think about it. HCl is one of the six strong acids (along with HNO3, H2SO4, HBr, HI, and HClO4). This means their Ka (acid ionisation constant) is pretty high, meaning that any HCl you put into solution (at reasonable concentrations) will turn into H+ and Cl-.
On the flipside, to get the Kb of Cl-, you simply take Kw divided by the Ka of HCl. Kw is 1e-14, so a really small number divided by a really big number is an even smaller number - showing that Cl- is effectively neutral.
What I think you guys are confused about is what they put into pools. The chlorine of choice nowadays is calcium hypochlorite - similar to sodium hypochlorite, found in stores as "bleach." (I use quotes because some bleaches aren't chlorine-based.) Hypochloric acid is a weak acid, which makes the hypochlorite ion a strong base. And a strong oxidizer. That's what will get your waterblocks eaten away.
There are ways to hold someone accountable other than monetary damages. I was thinking more along the lines of more extensive testing of new features (open beta period), and at the very least more communication between the developers and the users. Sure, there's a facebook blog, but it's not linked from anywhere I can see on the main page, and the blog isn't frequently updated at all.
And as it's been mentioned repeatedly before, there's a difference between public information and broadcasted information. There's a difference between walking by a pile of shit and having a pile of shit dropped in front of you. I can walk farther away in the former case, but nobody likes having shit shoved in their faces.
After the almost instantaneous uproard over news feed, why did Facebook not take care of the privacy issues right away and revert to the pre-newsfeed code? Instead, they waited three days to plug this massive breach of privacy. I believe that the facebook creators need to be held accountable for this delay.
Also, the fix code was so hastily put together, several of my "home page" links and the "My Groups" link in the menu don't work anymore. Anyone else having these problems?
I know I'm in the minority, but I would be more than happy if Myspace disappeared tomorrow. After seeing some myspace pages, I am convinced that a) people with epilepsy shouldn't go to MySpace pages created by today's "teenie boppers", b) today's youth must have really good eyes, because even I, at the ripe old age of 19, have trouble reading yellow text on white backgrounds, and c) Web page design really should be left up to professionals.
News flash! Windows Vista won't be rushed either. Industry speculators are now saying that Windows Vista will be bundled with Duke Nukem forever. Possible cover image here:
Maybe they finally realize they've fallen behind AMD and need to "Leap Ahead"...
This sort of sounds like how the Communist party in China had the Great Leap Forward program to modernize China after they realized China was way behind the rest of the world.
Meanwhile Australia's down there like, "WTF mate?" Russia's like, "AAAAHHHH, MOTHERLAND!" Then, England's like... "'bout that time, ey chaps?" "... Righto."
Well, [GT]Professr... good to see you on slashdot too;-)
I can't measure the amount of fun I've had in that chat room. It sure beat facebook because it was instant, and you could private message people or talk to EVERYONE AT ONCE... Fun times. I'm sure I'll see you on the reincarnation of i2hub.
It's only a matter of time before some college student starts hosting another Internet2-only DC++ server out of his/her dorm room. I personally have one restricted to the University of Kentucky IP block. The music industry doesn't seem to realize especially after napster that for every P2P network it shuts down, three more spring up.
But another concern is about the future of P2P. Grokster shut down last week, now i2hub has been forced out... what's next? BitTorrent? Kazaa? Ares?
The gap filler is primarily used to prevent the tiles from rattling around during liftoff. During re-entry, the 7000+ psi pressure on the bottom side of the shuttle keeps the tiles on -- and steady.

I really think this tag should be removed for today. It really takes the fun out of things...
Everyone tag it "sheeple." No, really.

You're using a 286? Don't make me laugh. Your Windows boots up in what, a day and a half?

Hannah can't be your real name. Everyone knows girls don't read slashdot. :-D

I for one (as a Chinese person) welcome our new Shinese puppy overlords...

At least Microsoft has given us a way to prove how unstable our systems are... whenever Windows Vista is finally released.
Anyone know if this can be adapted for the Thinkpad's active protection system? It's pretty much the same thing, as far as I know...
