"forced to compete with this feature"
But see, they are not competing. Competing would be offering a comparable service. I do not believe that a crippled PVR with no fast forward/rewind function is going to honestly compete with REAL PVRs like TiVo and ReplayTV. Of course, they are only trying to prevent us from stealing right?
There is an article on Tom's Hardware about the newest Matrox card... It is capable of using THREE monitors in this fashion for several current games - they are listed in the article. Enjoy!
If you have speakerphone on your cell phone... You would just hold it in front of you.
I would also agree that 15 bucks is great for a camera attachment, but most cell phones don't have color screens yet, and I think a b&w pic is pretty pointless. I think they should focus on getting video phones in our houses first...
Although from the looks of this article maybe its all going to be the same...
Okay... I get everybody's argument that there is no _proof_ that file sharing is affecting sales. Fine.
Maybe _my_ opinion is skewed because I happen to know how to use a PC with a CD burner attached to it, and I am not fanatical about the after quality of the audio.
The way I see it, as another poster pointed out, is that sharing MP3's will spur sales by the casual user. Someone that downloads the music on a slow connection every now and then to see what's out there (remember, broadband is still far from the norm), or even someone with a fat pipe that doesn't know how to use a CD burner or views it as too much of a hassle will download to listen/preview and then buy a CD to listen to in the car or on his home stereo.
Well... Technology naturally get's easier to use. Broadband is spreading. It is getting easier and easier to download and move straight to a CD - look at the MP3 playing car decks and DVD players!
I view this as a very very slippery slope, and I think that it will only lead to more and more depressed sales... Not that I'm simpathetic to the RI Ass. Of America, but this is the way I see it.
All I'm saying is that for someone who reads slashdot, unless they have a REALLY overactive conscience or can't get broadband or are a serious audiophile, it makes no sense that you would actually buy music when you can get it for free!
On whether you really like the company you work for or not. If you think they'll screw you when the time comes for cuts or another raise in the future, then you should move on. If you dig the place you work for now, then take the money. Most of the arguments on that website are BS anyway - such as "you can be bought"... Well no $hit sherlock... This is why you work, to make money. And besides, this isn't 20 or 30 years in the past where companies are actually loyal to you, I say go for the best deal!
I'm sick and tired of people arguing that this doesn't hurt sales. But while I believe it hurts sales, I don't believe it hurts them as much as the Record companies have been saying.
I haven't bought more than 2 or 3 CD's in the last 3 years. I have downloaded probably 1000 or more mp3 files in that same time period. But this does NOT mean that I would have bought those files had I not downloaded them. I may have bought 10 or 12, but not all of them.
So should they stop mass file sharing? Yeah probably. Will I be happy about it? Not one bit, but I'll accept it.
Also in other news I heard yesterday on the radio that a couple of the labels will be selling singles online for $.99 and albums for under 10 bucks. If that happens, I wouldn't mind forking over the cash every now and then when there's something actually worth buying.
Seriously though, this might be a strong catalyst for more clustering of many different types of application servers etc. A faster link is always better...:)
From Space.com as noted in the original article, 14-shade welding goggles are said to be adequate. IANAW so I'm not sure if 12 is darker than 14 or not. Also they mention that even with these shades, you should not look at it for more than 10 seconds anyway...
Yeah if it's connected via the computer... All it would need is the key sequence for your vcr along with the correct ir codes... It could pull the time from a "Totally Accurate Clock".
I couldn't imagine managing offshore workers that you've never met... Hmmm... Maybe this will even out the wealth in the world a little bit, not that I want that to happen (being in the US).
Weren't there laws put in place to stop this kind of thing? Somebody needs to take some action to stop this crap. I am really getting sick of those "get rid of your debt today" spam messages in my box. I'm about to set up a rule to reply "But I don't have any f***ing debt you spam eating a**hole!"
No kidding... Could you imagine if you were in a heated argument with your significant other and then all of a sudden get cut off because you're using too much bandwith on the phoneline because you're screaming? I would raise holy hell. Well, what is the difference? You give me this much of a connection, I will use this much of a connection. Period.
Does anybody other than me have semi-oily skin? When I use my cell phone for an extended period of time, that oil gets onto the screen of the cell phone since it rests against my face. Now what happens when you use one of these PDA phones? Are they designed for this not to happen? I would hate to have to wipe the touchscreen after using the phone... "No! I don't want to call China!"
Anyway, if anyone has experience with these phones please clue me in. Thanks.
I am a sys admin for a large company. I see people in the restroom all the time that don't wash their hands... Normally this wouldn't bother me, but then I think of how I'll be at that same users pc in 20 minutes. It makes me want to wear latex gloves like the doctor's office uses.

Heh... Yeah because you wouldn't work. :)
Stick that in your | and smoke it.

Just my $.02

Imagine a Beowolf cluster of these... Ha!
:)

Better still, you could pull it from this server... No hardware necessary.
wouldn't be much harder to do "Set Time on VCR".
Yeah if it's connected via the computer... All it would need is the key sequence for your vcr along with the correct ir codes... It could pull the time from a "Totally Accurate Clock".
There are technical documents here from Cisco. That doesn't make them easy to read, but it should be at least correct. Happy reading!
I couldn't imagine managing offshore workers that you've never met... Hmmm... Maybe this will even out the wealth in the world a little bit, not that I want that to happen (being in the US).
I wonder if anyone in the government has a pc with access to these "objectionable" sites... Only to "see what's out there" of course... :o)

Not only is this going on, but surveillance is increasing, and penalties are being stiffened for "cyber-crime". More info here.
And then download the MP3's off Morpheus. I wonder if the RIAA cares if you bought the CD first or not... hmmmm...
Yeah except that usually the 12 year old girl is some other 45 year old guy... Gross.

It's becuase the 4400 and 4600 are so freakin huge! Compare these:
This is a 4600. It's Big.
This is a 4200. In the article they say the differences between boards. Enjoy.
Is this a violation of the DMCA? Hacking into space must be stopped!
Damn... There goes my karma.
They want me to pay for music? What?
:)
Ummm... no.
