I'm reminded of Triumph the insult dog's bit where he interviewed "Star Wars Nerds" in line for the premiere of Episode II and he shows some dork who looks somewhat like liam neeson and dressed as qui gon jin renact a scene from Ep.1. Wow was I embarassed for that guy.

I've embarassed myself plenty of times with Karioke(i have to be pretty drunk to get up there). I don't think I want to subject myself to even more embarassment by enacting movies.

It's easy to be a "performance leader" in a market that has no competition. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no other "gaming and content delivery system" out there, at least functioning as in Tim Roberts "vision".

This statement is a load of B.S. Everything that I've read (including roblimo's article, HardOCP's article, Tim and Peter Robert's Home pages, and Penny Arcade) leads me to believe that these guys are complete B.S. artists.

I hate it when inarticulate, uneducated people try to pretend to be eloquent by substituting "fancy" words for what they meant to say. This article is a perfect example of that. Because they almost always don't know exactly what the fancy words mean: they just found them in a thesaurus and never checked the definition to see whether they are accurate or really even appropriate

  13. Re:But EA has an Ad Advantage on Electronic Arts 'Scores' With Product Placement · · Score: 1

The original poster was referencing EA's success with ad placement in its sports games. So was my comment

In EA's games, basketball players wear Adidas or Nike and run past a McDonald's banner on the court; Old Spice deodorant highlights football college players of the game; a snowboarder swooshes past Honda Motor Co.'s newest vehicle, the Element.

But really the point is, their most successful games, their most popular games, the games with the most exposure to the masses, are the sports games. Its not only very trivial to put ad placement in these games, it contributes to the immersion and realism since ad placement is part of the real world sports world.

  14. But EA has an Ad Advantage on Electronic Arts 'Scores' With Product Placement · · Score: 2, Insightful

Their games are set in the present. Their content would naturally contain ads. At basketball/football/baseball/etc games, ad placement is all over the place. Its only natural to have them in the game. You can't do this with games like KOTOR, they don't have Intel Chips a (really) Long time ago, in a galaxy far away.

so what's the big deal? They have an advantage because of their game setting.

When this security flaw was announced, everyone in slashdot was "firebird firebird firebird", so I went and downloaded, installed, and am now using it.

Great browser, cool themes thing goin on here. I like the tabs, really cleans up my bar down there with all of the programs. With IE I could have 15 IE windows open and they would all be represented at the start bar.

The biggest gripe I have (and this gripe will cause me to switch back to IE with this patch or goto netscape or something) is that it is soooo freaking slow when switching between programs and switching between tabs. When clicking on the toolbar, the menus take a full second to appear, or right clicking to save a link or something, takes a long time. It feels like this thing was written in java and there is that JVM latency you get when running java programs, where buttons take a second to pop-in, the window stays blank a second until the contents pops-in. I have a pretty fast laptop (p4 2.2 ghz, 1gb ram, geforce togo) so this isn't the problem (especially when other programs do not exhibit this kind of behavior, except for java programs). I loathe this...i can't stand that it behaves like this.

I really like Firebird, but I think its going to have to go. Is netscape still a good browser? I haven't used it since I switched to XP a couple of years ago.

Might I suggest the Brighthouse PVR (a whopping $6 a month more)? Enterprise is on twice a week (wed 8pm; usually when the magic game comes on; and sundays at 8 (with voyager on at 9 after that, to get your further fill of "bad star trek")). If the magic game comes on, the Sunday slot will have that weeks enterprise. Set the PVR to record the Entire Series and it will record both Wednesdays and Sundays episodes.

Disclaimer: I'm a magic fan so I don't mind the game coming on. Especially when time shifting Star Trek episodes.

Harry Kim could have been left out of the series altogether and I don't think it would take away from Voyager. He is the epitomy of forgettable character. The actor who played him was very bland, or it could have been the writers...not sure which.

Second, The opening credit sequence is pretty cool, but that's not what the parent said. The THEME SONG sucks. It is so Gay that I have to turn it off when it comes on. Give me some orchestral instrumentation for a Star Trek Theme song and you've sold me.

Slow DOWN THE TRANSPORTER!!!! It's faster than The Original Series'!

One comment about this. I hear a lot of comments about the technology isn't in tune with TOS in terms of ability, progression, etc. I think you have stop confusing the "technology" in the show and the technology that was used to render the show.

I think if they had access to todays technology, they WOULD make the transporters look the way the do in Enterprise. The TOS transporters were a bunch of swirling sparkles twizzled in a glass and then superimposed on the screen.

Enterprise's transporter actually looks cool in that the things aren't just magically disappearing, you actually get a sense of a "Mass" being broken down (Or being put back together). Its a real neat effect.
