Are you using it for storage, or as an email service? Personally I use my Yahoo and GMail accounts to send and receive mail. That means I need POP and SMTP... not available in Google. What about when I run out of space (and I do with all my mailing list digests I want to keep)? I need some kind of bulk archiving tool to zip and save my email boxes to lower-cost-media backup... not available in Google, or the free Yahoo!
I finally broke down a couple months ago and got in on a promo Yahoo! was doing for one of their Plus services right after I got my gmail account. The benefits of the Yahoo! Plus service far outweigh the theoretical advantage of being able to intelligently search through your email. Although I do think that's a feature I would eventually like to have, and I'm betting Yahoo! will be forced to do it sooner rather than later.
I've said it before.... Linux used to be perfect for old laptops... now Fedora Core 2 isn't even offered with a floppy boot option (something about the 2.6 kernal being too big), so those computers that can't boot from CD are just outta luck.
It's a shame... there's something so great about a slimmed down, purpose-built racecar that the latest Linux variants seem to be missing.
Question: What did you pay for your last cellphone? Ok, maybe the/. crowd did pay a little bit for theirs, but it sure wasn't full retail price.
Betcha any amount of money my wife, mom, mother-in-law, stupid coworkers, friends daughter all got the free phone... even if it didn't have all the features they would have liked (how do people copy over contacts without IR or bluetooth?)
I want the exact same device. The Sony PEG-UX50 was close, but the tiny screen at that high resolution just didn't cut it. Also, not a lot of Palm apps [intelligently] supported the native landscape mode.
Find me the device above for about that price, and I'll buy it on the spot.
The GEM at $2995 would have worked for me, but my backroad commute road is signposted 45mph even though it's stop and go most of the way.
The Reva (RCar) from India looks tempting.... but not available here yet (see second link, no response from emailing the guy).
I'm buying a motorcycle. Gas mileage is better, as is parking and being able to jump to the front of the line at lights. I'm a chicken so I won't be lane splitting.
Be interested to hear what other people come up with! My understanding is that the NEV (Neighboorhood Electric Vehicles) don't have to go through the strict crash tests, so they're cheaper to build and market... but only useful in a golfing community.
Actually, the lack of a floppy install is a minor/major sticking point for those of us trying to install on old computers or laptops that the bios can't boot from CDRom.
Of course, try installing FC2 with any graphical component in less than 1.2 gig.
You're right... and as soon as you can find me another device that relatively stealthily allows me to take pictures of hot chicks you let me know, mmmmkay...
Fortunately ccd and cmos sensors are becoming small enough to embed in just about anything. I have a camera watch (16x16 b&w pixels, but it's a start). I've also seen necklaces with cameras built-in on the spy sites.
Cellphones are going to be the worst of your problems:)
I'll give you a hint (and save you the 1:43s it took me), her middle name is Elsie and I hate public directories. A quick email to eem24 might get you a date, but I highly highly doubt it.
I had always recommended and sometimes used passwords written 'leet speak style, with numbers instead of letters.
I then found out somebody wrote a password cracker that uses those rules... out went that idea!
I have always suggested the following:
non-dictionary words
non-related to you words (kids, pets, town, etc.)
Combination of numbers, in the middle of a word or 2
I once worked with a sysadmin who used song titles... I thought he was really clever until I learnt 2atgilb4 was "To All the Girls I Loved Before"... kinda clever... a bitch to type.
Our current sa password to most of our databases is !myday (not my day).
I have an old Pentium 100 laptop with 64 megs ram and a 1 gig hd sitting in my office. I tried multiple distributions and none would support my wireless card.
Looked like Debian Core 2 was the answer, but it's hardware specs are incredible! (1.6gig for graphical, 128meg ram recommended). In fact, it couldn't even be booted from a floppy (old bios doesn't support booting direct from CD).
So much for using up all this old hardware with Linux... All I need it for is a WiFi sniffer!

Consider T-Mobile's prepaid service. They're running a current promotion where your purchased minutes (maybe on the >$25 cards) will expire 1 year out. That makes it a cheaper per month cost to you if you never use your phone.
Also, T-Mobile prepaid SIMs get free WAP access (port restricted, but still useful). Makes it a cheap way to get free surfing on your laptop if you already have a bluetooth or IR phone.
Also, the T-Mo starter kits can be found at Target occasionally on sale for around $50.
Hate to be a T-Mobile fanboy, but their offering certainly has some benefits you might want to investigate. Check Howard Forums for details.
You don't mean "give me a non-motorola Verizon CDMA phone any day over GSM." You actually mean to say "AT&Ts implementation and maintenance of a GSM network.".
GSM is not inherently flawed (though it does have it's fair share of gotchas). AT&T just failed to implement the network and supporting customer service products correctly.
I was ASTONISHED (!!!!!) when I took my AT&T GSM phone to England for two weeks. No missed calls, no dropped calls, no calls going straight to voicemail, service IN THE SUBWAY, service everywhere I wanted to go!
It was then that I was convinced that GSM (or at least universal world compatability) is the correct way to go.
We've had streaming media technology for many many years no, even so good that we can stream high quality audio signals over modems and cellphones.
Why launch a satellite, or license spectrum, when in just a few years (if not already) we'll all be connected to a network of some kind within our car?
We have a saying amongst my friends... if you see it written down, it's because some idiot did it at least once.
My favorites was on a government health and safety page. It basically said to reports all work injuries using this web form... unless somebody had been killed, then you should not use the web form, you should call 911 instead. Wish I could find that page again.
Also funny is instructions on our shower head: "Do not aim shower head at sensitive parts of your body... such as your eyes or ears"... riiiiiight...
Yes, Nokia is obviously pretty heavily invested in Symbian. The nGage is basically a "Series 60" phone as well. It has a little more base memory, which makes running nGage titles on the 3650 a little more difficult... but possible.
The 3650 is a rocking phone (even with the rotary dialpad)... if you don't have an unlimited data plan, you're missing out on a lot of cool functionality.
And yes, you can assume the nGage2 will use Symbian as well. Maybe a newer version, but I would think backward compatability can be assured. They would be stupid not to!
Replying to myself... just tried the stream at lunch and it works great!!!! Kind of nice actually for my lunch break.
Only downside is I couldn't get the.ram to work to load all the parts in a row... I had to point to each stream individually. Now if only they would make a decent WAP front-end to it.

p.s. To the AC bashing T-Mobile. Say what you like about the service or their customer support (both of which I've been impressed with), they are the only carrier that offers a $19.99 UNLIMITED DATA plan! That barely buys you 8 megs over at AT&T.
Not only is it right there on the left side of their front page, they also left me with a pop-up (pop-under) offering their free player for download when I closed their site window! hahaha...
So is that a result of the ads being relevant or the content of the site (i.e. the search results) being relevant (to get you there in the first place?).
Just curious... I've been playing with AdWords lately and have found lousy clickthrough rates even though I'm advertising on very specific keywords that only fit exactly my target market.

On topic: Do any of these support the Nokia 3650 Image upload API??

My dad got me a while ago a book called Newton at the Bat. It dealt with the physics involved in a lot of different sports including baseball.
:)
It's probably dated now (early 90s?), due to the technological advances of sensors, imaging, and athletic study.
Might be worth checking out [no amazon affiliate link to be provided]
