    I want to know where you're getting $800 iBooks with a warranty, cuz AppleStore says they start at $1099. I didn't think the education discount was that good.

    Oh, you mean you're including the other functionality of the laptop in your cost calculation.... got it.... ok, so then I gotta ask you where are you getting those iBooks that fit in your pocket?

    Rememeber classifieds2000.com??? Stupid name, used to be a fantastic classifieds site!

    Excite bought it... changed it to classifieds.excite.com or something like that, and almost overnight it went from great to crap.

    Try finding a classifieds site today that isn't a) an auction site b) just a way for dealers to post cars for sale, or some other purely commercial site masquerading as a community exchange...

    I really truely hope that craigslist (always lower cased) doesn't get ruined, even if nobody in Sacramento has ever heard of it (some days I miss the Bay Area).

    And ironically, Howard would probably be against it to.... he's been pretty adamant against Internet radio because he can't get paid for it. That's somewhat true, and being able to timeshift his program won't make him any happier.

    Of course, most of us would agree that taping a radio show and playing it back later is WELL within fair use.

    They won't. They don't believe in it. They want a third-party to license their content (fees negotiable) and provide the front-end and service.

    Nevermind that I help build that suite by contributing content!

    I find myself needed imdb all the time watching movies.... what movie was he in with Kevin Bacon? Of course, what I really need then is a better version of WebTV (for free)... but a cellphone version would be nice too.

    It would be so easy to do if we could only get ahold of the full imdb database.

    Some people still insist on paying big $$$$$ (or £££) for ringtones but don't have a way to transfer them to the phone. This can most easily be accomplished by connecting to a WAP site.

    For me, the T-Mobile WAP deck (T-Zones) is actually fairly useful... if only for the yellow pages and movie times functions.

    You're correct!!! And rather than post a redundant message, I will add here that this type of crap (non-replicating, non-spreading) should be reffered to as a Trojan or at the very least Malware (depending on exactly what it does).

    Of course, the public grasps onto Virus = Bad, regardless of its actual function

    In reality, most computer viruses are fascinating studies...

    There was some pac-man themed pinball/arcade game 20 years prior and that never caught on. Why would they try again with pinball 2k?

    You mean Baby Pacman? That was 1992 and it was and still is a pretty fun machine. Unfortunately it's not a good enough pinball on its own to justify playing it, and the fairly standard pacman video game on top only held your interest long enough to get you back on the pinball.

    Too bad they only made about 2000 of them... they come across the auctions and papers all too infrequently.

    Get a Symbian phone and download Agile Messenger for free or IMPlus for pay...

    Then get T-Mobile or Cingular's $19.99 unlimited data plan and you're good to go.

    Now, I have found that keeping a cellular GPRS connection on all day long just does not work, even if you get good signal strength (you won't indoors).

    That was my initial thought too... start using !@#$%^&*()... of course, that has a few major potential flaws: A lot of computer systems might have a validation critera. Also, not everybody's keyboard goes like that ( keyboards I believe also have the ' up there somewhere too)...

    OCR systems that scan various forms might also need to be retrained.

    Nothing insermountable, and certainly nowhere near the scope of the Y2k problem, but an interesting situation none the less...

    When do we start running out of license plate numbers in California??

    I was this advertised last year at the Laguna Seca ALMS race, but nobody could tell me where to get one. I was going to try and rent one for the Sears Point (ugh, Infineon Raceway) event in a couple of weekends...

    It just kind of bugs me that it's such a closed system in every regard. With WiFi getting more prolific and the number of devices capable of accessing that, I would have expected the technology to be more accessable. Not a fixed piece of radio hardware built for a Gameboy of all systems. Why not just publish the XML data streaming somewhere and write software clients for all platforms.

    I know a lot of the live scoring data is available for ALMS and SCCA World Challenge (gooooooo TriPoint!), but not in a format that could be easily scraped.

    I'm not expecting good adoption of this iCard... which is unfortunate, because the conclusion might be that people don't want the information... which is untrue (at least in my case).

    Let the hacking begin....

    I've red Car&Driver, Road&Track, MotorTrend, all the others for many many years. Finally signed up for Autoweek because I wanted more timely news and race reports as well as inside the car industry news.

    I've found their magazines to be way better than the monthly rags, but I have a hard time actually reading them as they come....

    The US Grand Prix at Indianapolis is on this weekend! SPEED Channel is having live coverage all weekend, with the big race on Sunday.

    If you're a race fan of any kind, or just curious about the technology, it's definitely worth checking out!!!

    SPEED Channel reruns the days races on Sunday evening. Not quite as fun as live, but who watches anything live these days anyways?

    Australia is another good race to watch, as are some of the Far East races since they come on late Saturday night here on the west coast :)

    I am a HUGE Formula1 fan (born in England, raised and living in the US) but I just bought a motorcycle (2000 Honda CBR600F4) and started PVRing the MotoGP races.

    Holy crap are they awesome!!!!! For me hard to follow since I don't know the riders, their bikes, or their helmets yet... nor any of the intricacies of the rules... but I'm definitely hooked! Their website (besides all the flash crap) is one of the best out there as far as the scope and detail of the CONTENT available! They even have the full races for you to download in digital format! F1 will NEVER do that!!!!

    The Italian MotoGP race is well worth downloading!
