Redundant????
This was the first post to point out this wasn't the US making draconian laws for once.
If you are going to mark a post redundant please take the time to check the rest of the posts first.
It says not once... not twice... but THREE TIMES in the summary that it is the UK. Telling me a fourth time is redundant.
Please note that this was the UK.
Not the US as you may have assumed.
I know that, like all North Americans, when the first letters in a sentence are "UK" I immediately assume they really meant "U.S.A.". If you hadn't been here to correct things I might have gone on with an erroneous interpretation of the article.
Continue your good words, Stater of the Obvious. You are welcome here.
However, like you and Linux, I've run into problems with Window installs. The problem being hardware not being recognized during the install, like SCSI cards. If you miss the "press F6" at the beginning, you're screwed. Which brings up the original post, if you're a child, old person, non-techy computer user... are you going to know to press F6 at that point of the Windows install? Probably not.
Yeah, that's a real problem for all of those non-technical users who routinely purchase systems with SCSI interfaces and drives.
That crack you're on is really, really good. Where can I get one?
When referring to crack, the proper quantity is "some", not "one". "One", without some kind of quantity modifer like "gram" or "zip", implies some kind of base unit.
You might have one "rock" of crack, but you don't buy one rock. Well... if you do buy one rock, you quickly buy some more rocks. Some of you know what I'm talking about!
You buy some kind of measurable quantity. After all, you don't go buy one sugar. That's meaningless.
Er... at least that's what I'd say if I knew anything about crack.
Crack? Who said anything about crack? What am I doing this far from church?
You're one of those people that actually buys a case with transparent sides and blacklights, aren't you...
Seriously - what's with geeks and their lack of style and taste? I really want to know.
For my part, I'd like my computer to be invisible. Just a tray that comes out of the wall, into which I can put CD's when required. There's nothing appealing about computer cases or bare electronics.
I guess it appeals to the same people who buy car stereos in silver and vivid bright blue with big LED displays which utterly fail to match any part of the interior decor of the vehicle. Guys who never made it past the mental age of 12. "Space age GOOD!"
I'm serious. I've got everything in my collection... from Bach to Tool, every genre. And Abba is some pretty terrific stuff. They wrote music people love to sing - even today. Their music, decades later, is still in the public consciousness.
In fact, I was listening to a live cut of "Does Your Mother Know" yesterday.

Believe me it is possible if you do pure lsd (not dosed on paper). And yes, I too speak from experience. I am not so sure about the jumping out a window thing. Most people that can do acid for a week are not that weak minded...
Blotter LSD is the same chemical as liquid LSD. And the brain will only take roughly 800 micrograms at a shot - the rest is pretty much wasted. If you take 10 tabs at 80 mics per tab (fairly common amount) you'll feel about the same as if you take 20 tabs.
You can try to trip for seven days, but there's no way it'll happen. LSD won't keep you up for seven days straight like speed would... it'll keep you up for two days, but eventually you'll simply fall asleep, and stay asleep until you're not high anymore. And taking another 10 tabs when awaking - or a dose of liquid - will bring you partly up, but nowhere near where you were.
And after a few days of that, you could eat a whole sheet and get nothing more than a mild buzz.
You need a four or five day break to get rid of the tolerance, which is shortlived.

Tolerance to acid begins to build as soon as you start to feel it. You simply cannot take enough acid to trip for a week, no matter how often you redose. By day two, the experience is already greatly diminished. And before anybody asks, yes, I speak from experience.
Now, tell me he lost his grip after tweaking on meth for a week, and I'll happily shake your hand and agree. But tripping for a week on acid? Bull.
A majority of the youth there drink heavily by the age of 16, in fact it seems socially ingrained.
I'd like to hear where you got that particular gem. It's just wrong.

Keep going. We'll see if you can put your foot even farther into your mouth.
An indifferent feeling, and in most cases hate, exists between the varying states (or whatever they are called in Canada), particularly toward the mostly French ones.
Oh yeah. I wander around all day hating those darned french people. Oh wait... no I don't. Neither do most other Canadians. The separatist movement never recovered after the loss of the referendum what... a decade ago? And now for most Canadians it's business as usual.
I speak with Canadians concerning business matters at least twice a month, and even in casual discussions it is alarming how racist they are towards African Americans.
You're clearly lying. If you spoke to Canadians twice a month on business, you would at least know the word "Province". You'd also know that racism towards African Americans is pretty damn limited. I can't claim Canada to be free of prejudice - collectively we aren't - but most is directed at other groups. Not that that's any better - I'm just saying you haven't a clue.
It is very easy easy to run a national healthcare system when you have a small economy, almost no military spending, and a tiny population.
Is it now? Try running a economy dispersed over the second largest country in the world, geographically speaking, on the tax base made available by that "tiny population".
I'll wager you have no idea how large our economy is.
This is the same tripe I read over and over online.
Artists can earn money by performing (concerts and such), mp3's should be seen as advertising their trade. This happened all the time before the record companies stepped in, artists exchanged songs and travelled from city to city performing them in public, and getting paid for it.
So how exactly do they fund their tour? You need a large amount of money to move a tour from city to city - and that money will have to come up front, because no bank will fund such a risky proposition as the concert fees of a relative unknown.
If you're in it just for the money, I really don't want to hear your music anyway. Art should be created for the love of the art, not for monetary gain. Paying 'super stars' exorbitant amounts of money hasn't done their music any good. Look at the great artists from the past, Van Gogh didn't have a pot to piss in. What are rappers going to do ? Switch from music about 'the hood' and how hard life is on the street to singing about why it sucks to pay several million in income taxes ?
And what were Van Gogh's expenses? Paints. As opposed to stack amps, crews, musical instruments, power, insurance, transportation, recording gear and time...
The only music that will die together with the record companies is 'produced' music. They won't be missed, really. My life would be just as complete without britney spears and the backstreet boys.
Wrong again. The music that will die is that made by people who can no longer afford to make it. Funding again. Who can afford to leave their job and pursue a music career, when there will be no money from record sales, and record companies will no longer front you cash?
With the Linux community behind it, open-sourcing Java is going to mean a big leap for software development.[br][br]A big leap for who? Perhaps for the open source community - but not for Sun or Java. Why exactly do you think the open source community will cause Java to leap forward?

They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty nor security
Even when misquoting somebody, it is customary to attribute the quote, lest others believe you to be claiming it as your own.
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin
