You don't have to go to India to get a fair deal. I am on Fido in Canada using a SE T610 I got for $25. It has the most recent firmware, BT is active, I can use.midi files that I make myself as ringtones. Text messages 10 cents, Picture 25 cents. Data, 3 cents a KB (I don't have a plan for that)
We're at the top of the foodchain, and foods like Fugu (deadly blowfish), sushi, and... well, many asian dishes, prove that we're running out of new stuff to eat.
I know that you don't mean anything by that, but sushi and those "asian dishes" are ancient foods. That of which we (humans) have been enjoying for centuries, sometimes thousands of years.
A truer statement, the fact that we eat "hamburgers" made of recostituted abattoir floor garbage is an indication that we are running out of new things to feed our fat faces. We are at the top of the food chain and we eat garbage?
Nowadays you can't do that with most blogs, which are hosted on servers not owned by the "blogger". And "blog" has become so broadly applied that people now call any page written in a first-person singular tone that allows feedback a "blog". Sorry, your LiveJournal page is NOT A BLOG. It's not anything particularly special or worthy of a special name, unless maybe you're Linus Torvalds or John Carmack or somebody else whose every word people hang on with bated* breath.
Wow. Yes, all those kids on LiveJournal ARE blogging. What you describe up there as a false definition of Blog is in fact the current and accepted one, if you had any real concept of the genre, you would know that. Slashdot is a blog.
Just having some level of fame or intelligence or beauty or what-have-you does not give anyone claim over whether you can call something a "Blog". No matter how cruddy romance novels are, we still call them "books", just because they are not in the same league as an encyclopedia or Joyce, that doesn't mean that they can't be called a "book".
At least your nom-d'blog is telling of your outlook. What you have done here is the internet equivalent of storming out onto your lawn and yelling, "Get off my lawn you little COCKSUCKERS!!!" Right down to pre-supposing that most of us don't know what "bated" is.
While I understand your desire for "just a phone" some of us see the value in carrying less $500 gadgets around with us. I also understand your frustration with the lack of ability to make these things do what they do well. But IF they do succeed and make a unit that plays with the ease of an iPod and makes calls as well as any of their other phones, then what harm does it do the market?
If variety is good for the software market, as the saying goes here on/., and innovation is good, Then why is the same not good for the phone market? I see people getting really uptight when phone manufacturers try new things. Seems a little conservative to me.
This sounds an awful like the original mp3.com plan where one could add a cd to ones "profile" and then listen to it anywhere. That got them in big poo last time. I wonder if it is as similar as it sounds.
I don't see it available for download as a ROM or to buy anywhere there. How is this considered "out"?
I am really disappointed that they don't offer the original Nanoloop for GameBoy unadvanced as a cart. There have been tests shown that the first GameBoy model had much better sound circuits that had little to no noise, while each newer model added static and buzz.
Would there not be a market for both?
If anyone out there could point me in the direction of the cheapest flash cartridge set-up for ROMs that would be great.
Only on Slashdot would someone say that they were going to record a song onto a $100 hard drive and then smash it, rather than a 50 cent cassette tape.
Those are the changes that disturb me the most also.
What I would like to see is an edit done between the "special edition" dvds and the THX laserdiscs (there are dvd-r ready torrents out there)that keep the zippy new special effects, but knock out all the crap the SE screwed us over on.
This note will be lost in the shuffle as it has been seven hours since the original post, but what the hell...
I am just waiting for the day (i predict between 5 and ten years from now) that the iPod is cell or satelite or wifi or something enabled and you can buy tracks on the fly.
The word "shweet" comes to mind.
Oh, and since I haven't seen it yet, Where is my CANADIAN iTunesMS?!?!?
I have often found just the right bit of information because of blogs. Often from the phrases that are on the Google search I can discern that the blogger is indeed looking for or has found a solution to the same problem I am looking for.
In my blog's referring stats I often see search results that look like they are leading people that are looking for information that I cannot give them. This invariably involves search terms that contain an album name, or movie title and "Torrent" or "Download" This is because I blog reviews of movies and albums.
What kind of idiot searches for movie and music downloads via Google anyways?
This is a problem because there is nothing really outlining this as a paid advertisment. If one is watching TV and a "paid program" comes on, the network is obligated to inform us at regular intervals that it is such. There is nothing explicitly informing the listener that this song is not part of normal programing but was paid to be on there. Even if is is announced that it is "presented" by Arista or whatever major label, it isn't evident right off the bat that this is not "legitimate programing"
(though if it is a Clear Channel station, I guess it is like watching a paid program on The Shopping Network)
That's funny, when I eject a device, a little icon appears on my system tray. Double click it, pick the one you want to turn off, and a message tells you it's ready to go. How would anybody know that? If you unplug something without doing this, you get a nice little message explaining it to you, and it shows you what to do.
I doubt it's as nice as what Apple has, but it's nowhere near as dramatic as you're making it out top be.
What is funny is that I thought you WERE talking about OSX when you wrote that. What you described is exactly how OSX handles USB Floppy drives.
Streaming itunes wirelessly is nice but you still need to go back to your computer to change a song.
You mean you leave your computer???
On a more informative note, "analog mini jack -> digi optical cord" is not an acurate way to describe it. The out jack itself is a dual purpose one, similar to the one that is on MD players. They have found a way to combine both optical and analogue into one jack and it is automaticly chosen depending on the plug inserted.
Something I find hilarious is that there are so many posts that condemn this bill. If it were a bill not allowing Microsoft to collect the information that could be given to them though some sort of "registration" everyone would be applauding.
I get your point, but your analogy is flawed.
Yeah, but that is Pay as you go. Those plans are the cash cow of any mobile provider.
Am I happy with my carrier?
Damn straight!

If I am correct, it isn't quite the DMCA because it doesn't pertain to devices. So hardware hacks remain legal.

I find it telling that allofmp3.com recently DOUBLED their prices, and it didn't phase me a bit.
No way, if they shot down to earth, then we could ALL be the Hulk.
If variety is good for the software market, as the saying goes here on /., and innovation is good, Then why is the same not good for the phone market? I see people getting really uptight when phone manufacturers try new things. Seems a little conservative to me.
I only point this out because your statement seems so b&w.

No, you would have to tell him it was an oil derrick.
So if you rip a Pirated DVD you bought on the street, and upload it to a tracker, who gets to sue you?
Something else completely unrelated. Not to troll, but did you even glance at the article?

I wonder what the "Phantom Edit" guy is up to?
I am curious. Where would the best place that you have found online for plans and parts for making an amp for one's self?
Actually, the Empire would be the ones looking for WMD on Hoth and "smoking Luke out of his hole" on Bespin.

The double standard is astonishing.
Karma? I don't need no stinking KARMA!
