    Just how exactly do you think it would stay in orbit next to the ISS with no fuel for station keeping? Or did you think delivering that would be free?

    As said, this would have needed several years worth of thought/design to be a viable concept. Far too late to do it now. A couple of small, bolt on rockets and a fuel tank or two. But gee...how to current satellite do station keeping for several years?

    SRBs are cheap but notice that no one else uses them for a man rated launcher.

    No one else but the Russians fly a 'man-rated' launcher with any regularity. So its 50-50...SRB or not.

    Park one or more of these puppies in orbit, next to the ISS. No, it isn't useful *now*. But it may be in 10/15 yrs. No, the internal systems will not last. Batteries will die quickly, etc. Here are 3 large pressure capsules, all ready for future use.

    But once these are on the ground, that's it. They will never rise again. We needed to think of this a decade ago, it's far too late now.

    Goddammit....these vehicles would be perfect for future orbital ops.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but if everybody get a chance to get vaccines, then the only people who are at risk because of not wanting vaccines are the people who have chosen it for themselves, correct?

    Kids don't generally get to make that choice to be at risk.

    Some years ago, we had a babysitter who, unbeknownst to us, had a boyfriend in prison. "Press 1 to accept this call" The next phone bill was a real WTF! moment. Needless to say, we didn't use her anymore.
    Years later, a neighborhood kid who was in juvie for child molestation (diddling his 5 yr old cousin) had taken a shine to my twin daughters. Would attempt to call collect several times a week, all refused. Called the facility, and they could not prevent him from those outgoing calls. Had to call Verizon to have all numbers from that facility blocked.

    A detector would only work once the phone is already inside and on and/or in use. During the actual transport/smuggling, turn the phone off, and no detection.
    It would help in finding a phone, but not prevent it coming in.

    why didn't they just set up video tele-conferencing equipment instead?

    In the US, HS students have different classes in different rooms. English here, math there, science somewhere else. Every room would have to have the same stuff. Or, you make a mobile teleconference setup, like this thing.

    So while it's completely possible to charge off a regular 120V circuit - you really need to plug into a higher power circuit to achieve reasonable charge rates.

    The other issue is *where* do you charge it? Have a house and a garage? No problem. Rental house with just a carport? While I could probably convince my landlord to let me mod the house, it wouldn't be an easy road. And If I move, I'd have to leave it behind and do it again at the next place.
    What about those in a city apartment? Say, on the 4th floor. Can't very well hang an extension cord out the window. Until and unless curbside charging infrastructure get built out, many, many people living in the perfect environment for an all electric car are out of luck.

    IMHO, one of the reasons people obsess over gas prices is because they see them literally every day. It's a matter of perception. Every time you go out, you see multiple big ass signs with the gas prices. You can track it every single day.
    With very few other products are you reminded of the price on a daily basis.

    If Facebook or Starbucks cannot show me either a model release with my signature on it, or a place where I specifically authorized the use of my image in advertising, then if my picture appears in a Starbucks ad somebody will be looking at a pretty significant lawsuit.

    Facebook TOS:
    "1. For content that is covered by intellectual property rights, like photos and videos ("IP content"), you specifically give us the following permission, subject to your privacy and application settings: you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook ("IP License").     You 'own it', but they can 'use it'.

    I think you underestimate the value of tax free high quality food.
    $24 a day tax free is like $50 a day post tax. $250 a week. It will be sort of like getting a $8,000 bonus. I've really noticed it in my cash flow.


    $24 a day? For lunch? Per person? When I am so inclined, I bring my lunch for next to nothing.

    The same role that Ford Motor Company is responsible to fill in preventing the use of it's vehicles as Getaway cars from scenes of crimes.

    I think it's slightly different. Once Ford sells a car, they are done (except for warranty work).
    This is more like Ford providing assistance during the heist. The robbers are actively using the service in the commission of the crime.

    Also, the type of car is irrelevant. Or no car at all. Cracking the WPA in this instance can't be done without using Amazons service.

    No, thats a 'different' solution, not necessarily a 'better' one. Many cases where that would be non-optimal:
    Person can't wear/doesn't like contacts.
    You're in front of a screen for 8/10/12 hrs a day, hence reading glasses, hence why am I wearing contacts for all that time?
    Now I have to manage two sets of aux eyeballs - glasses and contacts.

    Personally, I like this adjustable concept. Give it a little time to mature, and we'll see.

    Well, if I had been at MS for 23 years, the last half of that as the head of a major dept (salary+stock+ret plan=retiring very comfortably), I'd be thinking about quitting/retiring as well. Fuck what Steve or Bill wants or needs.
