    Like the post from Handpaper points out, this is the expected behaviour. And it's just that predictability that make google so good. A truly unique string of characters, in quotes, will return one page only.

    Actually, I forgot

    #make kernel_image --revision=1.0

    This produces a package, including image,modules, lilo configuration, etc, in the /usr/src directory.

    My apologies to the masses who, seeing how easy my previous example was, ditched windows/BSD/OSX, installed Debian, and got stuck at step 4.

    Quite right. The payloads we are currently capable of boosting are useless for any real development of space. If we are to have the future we dream of, we're going to have to find (and fund) another way to do it.

    Yes, we are certainly capable of sending small probes out to discover facts about the solar system, but those facts will remain useless until we can get there in person.

    I remember reading a statement somewhere regarding rocket tech, along the lines of 'a 5% increase in current booster efficiency would allow double the payload'. Anyone know these numbers?

    And the Winter Soltice, that I just finished celebrating with a bunch of friends in my rural mountain hippie town, is a far better reason to celebrate, in my book.

    I just returned home from an evening out with some friends. I have had 4 or 5 drinks this evening, on other evenings, I've had more. I have also smoked some pot tonight. I have not driven. I have not beaten my girlfriend, or participated in any violence at all.

    Not takeing responsiblity for your actions causes 'consequences' to society, not ethanol or any other chemical.

    Christmas might have come from the celebration of Christs birth, but in my life, it's about friends and family and fun. Drinking is fun. Driving drunk is fun also, but only it has consequences.

    For those who don't know, this is how is goes on Debian;

    apt-get install kernel-tree-2.whatever
    cd /usr/src/kernel-source-2.whatever
    make config/xconfig/whatever
    dpkg -i kernel-image-2.whatever

    everything is either taken care of, or clearly warned about if you're doing something unusual....

    Flash is, and will be, showing up in all kinds of places. As long as it's just the UI, it's not an outlandish choice for a medical app.

    That article (Nov. 5) mentions a 2-5% increase in power and says Opportunity is operating at ~820 watt-hours. While this article says Opportunity went from 500 to 900 watt-hours.

    The real numbers are probably less mysterious.

    It wouldn't be cheap, but almost doubling the power by cleaning the panels seems like a good reason to do it.

    Those lava flows look quite different from ones on earth. They're flat topped, show no signs of caldera/explosion, and seem to sit largly isloated from any other feature.

    Anyone have a clue?

    Yes, marginly more enegy would be imparted to the asteroid, but less kinetic energy. I imagine a good chunk of the asteroid would vapourize, and the resulting out gassing would give it a kick.

    To really do any good, one would drive the warhead into the asteroid before detonation

    Commodore is maybe nomore, but dollars to designers _someone_ still owns the IP.

    Anyway, this product is licensed. Always a good idea when sinking $$ into hardware.
