Given that top level domains are so hard to remove, this system seems kind of broken.
Many countries are going to change their names in the future. The article doesn't really go into it, but I'm sure the name has some political overtones for many people in Russia. Some other names with political ramifications are.tw (taiwan).cs (Czechoslovakia).kp and.kr (Koreas) etc.
This is lame. The mod has been done before. The mod is boring. AND the story was submitted by the guy selling it on ebay. (emails match)./. = born yesterday, or what??
Ummmmm. Did you read the article? It's all about putting spectrum into 'the commons'. It would be a bit hard to make something free and profit from it at the same time. And it's not like this guy invented something new.
Man, I hate it when my nice, clean, acedemic world of Computer Science gets involved in messy ethical problems.
Science needs to keep a handle on what's right and wrong. I'm not saying this shouldn't be researched, but I would hate to see this become an industry.
Is a laser really that much more expensive than one of these? I mean, they've been around for 30+ years now, havn't they? I bet this doesn't turn out to be so much more cost-effective in the short run, at least.
The existence of black holes is still debated in astrophysics. The problem can be seen in the word used to describe them, 'singularity'. They cross out of the 'fabric of space-time' and introduce all sorts of paradoxes like wormholes, time-travel, etc, that get harder and harder to fit with what we see. The article seems to be pretty sure about it though.
To quote many a post here: 'I'm no astrophysicist'
An orbital system doesn't have to have a massive combination of mass at the center to hold together. The orbiting materiels velocity increases to balance the gravitational pull.
Flamebait!? Jerks! read SexyKellyOsbourns other posts and see if I'm wrong. He's full of it! And you silly moderators give him +5, interesting every time!! bwhahahahahahaha!!!!
This isn't meant to be a troll, but has anyone ever noticed the lack of GPL projects/work coming out of the 'east'. (this was a/. topic some mos ago), or the lack of commercial projects?
I know there are some exeptions (red flag linux comes to mind), and that there are economic barriers in place that preclude growing up with the 'hacker ethic'. But still, it's a shame that all those skilled programers are doing boring projects for multi-nationals for crap $$.
My bet is that this desicion will wind up having a huge impact on linux and related projects.
I don't understand. Nobodys going to be useing a potato to power a laptop. 'not every no hydrogen fuel based battery can make electricity without being charged' Might or might not be true, I can't tell. And hydrogen for industrial use usually comes from other sources than using electrolysis.
All true. But assuming I own a fuel cell, I'm going to ensure I have a source of fuel for it. And I could easilly carry enough fuel for several hundred hours of operation (of a notebook, say) in a small canister.
All in all, it probably isn't going to be any more difficult to find a supply of fuel than it is to find a 110v 60hz outlet in Nepal.
If you use Blender or not, the fact is that in a year or two, lots of other opensource apps are going to have benifited from this. I also think that this will be of some interest to companies with non-viable products.
Middle mouse buttons are falling out of favor!? Not for 3D apps. Every one I've used has made heavy use of as many buttons as you can throw at it. Besides, these apps are so complicated that every one of those 101-keys already does something.
Every machine I work with has several buttons on the mouse, and my right hand doesn't seem to have a problem with it.
This sounds like more of an incremental improvment rather that the quantum leap that we need. And you'll still need a source of electricity to charge it. I'm still holding out for fuel cells.

Maybe we should move to something more flexible.
Gee. People sure seem to hate your sig. And it's not even political! Nice work.
can it, teach.

did the 'thinkgeek' type word after the quote tip you off??
silly moderators. just because you don't like the joke doesn't make it a troll.

Moderators!!! Mod stuff UP, not DOWN already. And how does something un-modded get a 'overrated', anyway?

My prediction; every post above will wind up with an average of;+7, interesting, -9 troll, -7 Flamebait, -6 Off-topic, +5 imformative.

But you already know that. Nice troll.

Seriously, I'm gonna wait until there's some kind of dev community going around it before jumping in.
p.s. anyone intrested on starting the os x port??
The tutorial linked to in this parent looks like it'll turn learning Obj-C from a 2 hour exercise to a 1 hour exercise. Thanks critic666.
UI Builder, Project Builder, OpenGL Vertex Shader, IPhoto, ITunes, IMovie, the list goes on.
Show me where I can buy a realtime Vertex Shader IDE for any amount of money.
