    I know. Thus my use of the word "pimped": Nintendo licensed one of its grade-A assets out to a shop that knowingly put together a half-assed "bridge" game to collect money from people who liked Zelda games without actually producing a Zelda game. They've done it before and they'll do it again, because they know people like you will bite.

    Seriously - I don't understand the panic. Nintendo's will keep licensing its characters (as it always has) until they find the right game and format. Even Link's been pimped out on a retread (Hyrule Warriors - a reskinned Dynasty Warriors).

    - Game the DNC system against Bernie
    - Keep Clinton from campaigning in the midwest
    - Cause Clinton to collapse into a van
    - Keep Clinton away from the press for most of the campaign
    - Make Clinton call half the country rude names
    - Force Clinton to set up a shitty little email server
    - Tell Clinton's campaign manager that it's OK to click on "legitimate" phishing emails

    Have to agree with Barack when he said, "The 1980's are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back because the Cold War's been over for 20 years." My money is still on a (non-Russian) pissed-off Bernie-backer as the real Wikileaks connection - most of the grey+ hats I know were quite #neverclinton.

    If you've got this much time to pick apart my post during the day...I'm guessing you aren't a developer. :)

    Surfaces might be fine for the masses who are OK with crappy keyboards, small screens, etc. but if I have to work with something for hours a day, it isn't going to be a Surface.

    It's more than that. Skype for Business is notoriously crashy...not something anyone trusts important/client-facing phone calls with. And the Mac version is just trash.

    As a corporate user, my favorite thing is having both Skype for Business and Skype installed, because while the company uses Skype for Business for internal chat, you need "the real Skype" if you're actually going to be making any external calls.

    I agree with this. However I buy laptops so I don't have to use the docking station (sometimes I just want to fool around with code in front of the TV). Happy to hear about compiler performance, though - it's about time!

    Not really. I don't shop from Amazon often enough to get any value from the "two day shipping" (and the stuff I do buy is obscure enough that it gets cancelled about a third of the time anyway), and I can pirate all the IP content for free. So...I look at people who fork over the $100/year as chumps.

    If true, it's because Macs are starting to suck for geeks who really just want a dependable Linux-like machine. That silly new "swipe bar", the loss of easy USB ports, and more.

    However, I can't see myself ever going to a Surface. My main Windows laptop is a Dell Latitude that can double as a desktop and compiles quickly with a large screen. I also have a Windows tablet I use to surf the web, buy stuff and play Civ 5. But the Surfaces are just trash - hybrids for consumers, with no value for geeks.

    As someone who lives in a state that gets frozen roads (and has to deal with StackOverflow-quality code from west coast "tech" companies on a daily basis), yeah, I want something that's battletested in real conditions before I buy it. If they can make this work in icy and foggy Michigan, I'll trust it a whole lot more than something cobbled together in sunny and dry California.

    I'm sure there are equally large groups of lawyers trying to simplify that equation to either "act of god" or "the auto manufacturer" right now. And it will surely take a few court cases to get this hammered out, and then hammered out again. In the meantime, what people like the local governor are trying to do is make it clear that "it's OK to experiment here without having all the bureaucratic/legal answers (you want) in place" by sweeping some regulations to the side. Yeah, his call favors new technology research over human life, but if it really saves human lives in the future, he'll be up on that score too. (The alternative is really to let countries like China - who really do have a "fuck you" attitude toward human life - figure this out first.)

    The biggest problem with Microsoft getting near a data plan is that you could easily see a scenario where most of your data was getting sucked up by Microsoft's ever-present upgrades. That, and, having to wait an extra 10-15 minutes when you really want to restart your phone.
